Re: Rayman Legends

Post by spiraldoor »

Many posts discuss both Origins and Legends, or one game in relation to the other. Some posts lean more towards Origins, but are part of conversations which still involve Legends heavily. The stickies tend to meander a lot anyway, and often stray into discussion of other games. Some of the posts I’ve moved don’t even discuss either game, but seemed to fit better here thanks to the web of conversations in which they’re entangled. In any case, I’ll go back over the thread and make sure that everything is in the right place.

Edit: I’ve moved back a stray Origins post that was buried in one of the earlier Legends pages, along with an entire conversation about an Origins glitch starting on page eight. I’ve also done some editing to straighten out the (very few) posts that discuss both games in any real detail.

How isn't this a proper Rayman platformer? I know it's no 3D,but this also seems pretty promising. My thoughts about this game have changed drastically since the first time I heard about it.I first thought this was gonna be another flop xD

What'chu talkin' 'bout son? Just as long as Ubisoft don't make the same mistakes as they had done last time (Like releasing the game in the death month of November), then Rayman Legends should be a hit. Hopefully.
On the Wii U peripherals, it makes me wonder what they'll do for the other platforms to let people access the levels. Unless of course, if that unlockable content using the figurines are Wii U exclusive. Maybe us other platform owners will get some different exclusive content or something, then...
EDDIT: Just saw that trailer, and I must say that that logo looks pretty god damn awesome. Obviously again they're trying as hard as they possibly can to show off all of UbiArt's possibilities. Also I may be in a minority here, but that Rabbid level looked pretty cool. *Hides behind rock and waits for the onslaught of rotten tomatoes and other pieces of rubble headed my way*

I'm not really fussed if we don't get the Wii U content, as long as the core game is still there, and I can sample it effectively, I will be happy.

Just watched the trailer, and I'm liking it so far. Having Rabbid and Assassin's Creed bonus elements doesn't bother me, and it's probably going to be a feature included in more games.

So far the game is really growing its own personality and style, which is pretty sweet.

I'm hoping some characters from Rayman 1 will be playable.

I have to say what impressed me is the online play, which is something they should've done in Origins. It'd be nice if online play included the ability to play with someone else through the main story of the game, can't say I was all too bothered with "Rayball".

What i'd really like to see here is DLC for this game that isn't place your favourite Rabbid figure on a control to get a new level.

Also the new chick looks freaking badass and Scottish and badass.

It certainly looked cool, but too much gimmick hinders even the best games. It might only be an Easter egg, but it goes against their hardest task with Legends: being creative.

That Skylanders mechanic looks cool but if they're gonna go down that route then I hope that does not mean you'll have to buy billions of figures at so much quid a pop. I've got an inkling though - that Rabbid figure was part of the first wave of vinyl Rabbid toys [from 2009-ish] and on the foot they have the Ubiart logo. Perhaps any figure with that logo or similar might be trackable or something by the wii-u controller. Either that or they'll make new figures for it, who knows.

I think the first post of this topic should contains more information about this game, like the trailer or some pictures.

Okay, well I guess it's time to make my worthless opinion :P!

Even though I have been aware of this games existence for some time now (that is the same time everyone else found out of course!), I deliberately haven't said anything yet because I wanted to see how it panned out, instead of making a judgement from a couple of screenshots or 10 seconds of early gameplay. It does really irritate me when I see games get announced and then someone instantly goes IT SUCKS without knowing the first thing about it, and it's something I see a lot :mryellow:. The first thing that I instantly thought however was, isn't this a bit too soon? They've only just released Origins and they're already so far into the development of a sequel that they're ready to show off trailers and such! Personally, I think that's a little bit rushed, and forced too. I tend to dislike forced sequels that are made in a knee-jerk reaction to the first with no heart or soul, which are different to games that have had time, effort and love (sorry, really corny!) put into them, which was something I could tell with Origins and especially Rayman 1. So yeah, I'm pretty surprised that there is a sequel so soon!

Anyway, onto the trailer, which is the reason I've decided to post now. Again, I am well aware that this is an early judgement, and I have been made a fool of before. I didn't really think much of Origins from the first trailer either, but like the final result! Although, even with Origins, there was a sense of likeability from the trailer, and despite my OTT reaction video, I did think there was something to it. With this, I'm really not getting it. I do agree with what a lot of people have been saying on here, that it looks a little too down to Earth (literally!), and not very surreal. The colours also look highly dull. All I see is pea green and brown, the same choice of colours that make Rayman 2 so unappealing to me (sorry!).

Next, the gimmicks. Both me and my brother were watching the trailer at the same time and had the same reaction. It really looks like they just slapped on a bunch of gimmicks to be cool and then called it a sequel. Hey, do you know what everyone likes? Online play! Lets add it in! Hey, do you know what everyone likes? Skylanders (does anyone even like Skylanders anyway? I don't even know :?)! Lets do that! Hey, do you know what everyone likes? Rabbids (apparently)! Lets add them in! etc.

So yeah, not feeling the 'Rayman charm' right about now. Just a bunch of forced looking stuff. The only thing that made both me and my brother smile and chuckle was the new player character for some reason :P.

Well, that was the trailer. But then again, it was the trailer, so I have yet to see more. Go Legends, prove me wrong and show me a brilliant Rayman game! I know you can do it really, just like you did before!

*Slightly Off the Point* Has this been officially announced yet or is this all still via leaks? It makes it awkward talking about this game elsewhere (such as via Youtube) if Ubisoft are still trying to keep quiet (and failing) about the thing!

Also, epic amount of new posts were made while I spent ages typing this thing :P. It's such an epic wall of text that I have no idea who's going to read it! Should I make a concise version? ;)

Why not? I'm uploading the trailer to my Youtube channel (Danonanobadray327) I'll do it when the trailer is upload

EDIT: I'll write the link of the PC in the description :)

Well, Origins was more of a speed rush. I want a proper platformer, like Rayman 2 - or 1, I suppose in this context. I don't want to be on a nearly permanent speedrun with almost no proper enemies.

Just be warned, Ubi seems to be silencing any video uploads of the trailer on YouTube, only a few have passed unnoticed.

For the people who want to know: Ubisoft confirmed that Michel Ancel and his Montpellier team are working on Legends, but the trailer you've seen represents -and I quote- in 'NO' way the final product. Here's the full statement:
"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet. This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features. This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier."
I'm wondering if Ancel does this and BG&E2 at the same time then?

Personally, I feel that Origins wasn't just a 'speed rush'. Sure, the gameplay was a little more fast paced in places, and they went for an interesting beat-em-up style combat system with the enemies (which I felt was pretty cool), but I think it held the balance between faced paced gameplay and careful platforming well (as a matter of fact, the jumping . I don't see how it's not a proper platformer!
Just my opinion though...

Also, thanks for the info Master4lyf1, I know not to be too quick with bringing up the game in certain places now. I guess that will wait until after E3 ;)
