I think it depends of the sense of humour of everyone, but I think we can't negate either that were not used to the humour of Rayman 3 nowadays.

I didn't like R3's humous as well.for me,Rayman 2 was the best.Maybe I'd have added those giant eyes from Rayman 1.But I'm more of a serious, logical person so it's hard to get me comfortable with humour.I don't really remember much humour in R2,maybe that's why I liked it even.

Is Eric Chevalier still composing? I find Rayman 2 theme as the true Rayman's theme.

It would be so cool if he composed this game's soundtrack!

Well, yeah, I kinda miss the "DUN.... DUN-DUN.... DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN" song that you hear when you unlock a secret :P

Apparently Chevalier was going to compose the soundtrack of Rayman 4 (the Ubisoft Montpellier one), but I’m not sure where we learnt this.

I thought R3 was funny. well, some jokes didn't work, but many did. in particular, the tutorial with murphy is quite awesome
maybe the few sex jokes were a bit too much for the rayman universe.

Really, I found that kind of irritating sometimes, it didn't sound very cheerful for something good happening :P! Chevalier did have some great moments with some of the R2 soundtrack though, and with Tonic Trouble too. The Rayman 2 theme is a very memorable one. His work is no match for Rayman 1's soundtrack, but as I have placed that as my favourite video game soundtrack of all time, it's going to be hard for me to say something equals/tops it ;).

I'm assuming the Origins composers are going to return for Legends, and that will be cool :D

EDIT: 800th Post! Image
Yay, and it's about Rayman Soundtrack too! :mryellow:

Please, more epic soundtracks from Éric...

I really love the Rayman 2 soundtrack. The puzzle-solving jingle is my current SMS ringtone by the way.

The Rayman 1 soundtrack is quite good, but I think the Rayman 2 sountrack wins due to the musical variety (a lot of different musics).

Funny, I was just about to make a post claiming that the one problem with Rayman 2's soundtrack was that it can be a little bit repetitive with it's jingles, while Rayman 1's soundtrack is the king of musical variety! Yay, opposing opinions :mryellow:

Speaking of the later Rayman 2 & 3's humour levels, there was a time where my younger self had accidentally invented new jokes for certain cut-scenes and believing that they were actually in the game. I think they all started with my young 6-8 year old self thinking "wouldn't it be funny if..." and then this thought being merged into the real cut-scene due to not playing either game much in my younger years.

I remember for some time, I recalled the cut scene at the end of the Woods of Lights had Rayman taking the crown and claiming he was the King of the Teensies just so he could get a word in edge ways :mryellow:. As for Rayman 3, for ages (until I saw it again on Youtube), I was convinced that the tutorial level featured Murphy reading part out of the manual with the Rayman 1 picture on it, only to realise it literally was the manual to the first game (the controls he described being blatantly for a 2D game), causing him to realise that this wasn't right, throw aside the manual, and do the tutorial on his own accord instead I have no idea where this idea came from, but for some reason I still think it was more amusing then the actual joke

Anyway, super off-topic - sorry! Oh well, the topic was already this way anyway :P

The soundtrack of Rayman 1 is my favourite. Rayman 2’s soundtrack is also excellent, but it goes in a very different direction, and doesn’t even try to recapture the intangible qualities of the original’s music, which sounded more ‘colourful’ and ‘expansive’. (Does anyone know what I mean?)

Christophe Héral will probably be back to score Rayman Legends, perhaps in conjunction with Billy Martin, and they’ll most likely create a soundtrack with exactly the same strengths and weaknesses as that of Rayman Origins.

I’d much rather they brought back Rémi Gazel and/or Éric Chevalier.

Here it goes the Rayman 1 VS Rayman 2 battles again.

I don't agree. The duration time of every Rayman 1 music is short, while in Rayman 2 it is more extended. The quantity of musics is also superior in Rayman 2, while in Rayman 1 since they are shorter and in less number, they get quickly more repetitive.

It looks like it isn't exactly how you are saying either :P. But we all understand you like Rayman 1. Try to understand my opinion, but keep also in mind I still have a lot of respect of Rayman 1 since it was what made me getting fan of his games and it is my second favourite Rayman game out of the four main ones.

@Spiral I think I know what you mean, but Rayman 2 absorbs me more into the gameplay's events, just like in movies with efficient soundtrack. Lets remind that the story and the atmosphere in Rayman 2 is one of the darkest of all the main games. I think Rayman 1's soundtrack however, transmits better the atmosphere of the environmental world that Rayman is stepping. In these terms the music is much more effective than in Rayman 2.

That would be either the most amazing thing anyone could ever arrange, or everyone's worst nightmare, depending on whether or not any of them have lost their touch (for example, I didn't feel too strongly about the 'new' tracks that were put into Revolution, which were apparently also Eric's work).

I might as well throw in my own view on the soundtracks here: I believe Rayman 2's soundtrack to be one of the most memorable ones from any game I've ever played. This makes it very hard to even compare it to other games, hence I think R2 trumps R1 and R3 and RO combined, even though all of them have great music. While it is true that R1 seems to capture the atmosphere quite well of the R1 levels, I think R2's soundtrack did a similarly excellent job at this with its own game. Consider the track of the SoRaL and BtSoRaL - they make you really feel like you're entering this ancient and dangerous temple. The Pirate themes make you fear and love the Pirates - fear them because they're scary, love them because they're cool and fun to mess with in battles (I can remember trying to get a Pirate to powder keg itself or its mates). The Precipice is exciting and exhillerating and the Cave of Bad Dreams theme hits the spot. I can go on, but I think you get the picture... er... note sheet...?

I'm still confused about the Magician being in Rayman Legends
Image

I mean... didn't he betray the entire Glade of Dreams? didn't he die? Oh boy, I hope he doesn't become the typical "I Surrender, Suckers" trope, where he's like "Oh, sorry guys, I'm gonna be good this time, kay?... HAH!! I WAS LYING, I'M THE FINAL BOSS AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE LUMS, IDIOTS!!!"

...And I could totally see Rayman and his friends falling for that. I really could.

That can't be good... I don't want the Magician to be an excuse for another goofy plot.

Hah, I certainly understand what you mean to a tee. While Rayman 2's soundtrack literally cannot get any closer to matching up with the scenes they were placed in, it would have been nice to hear some of the fantastic and colourful themes reminiscent of the first game. Maybe not the exact same since the two had different atmospheres, but in general.

That looks probable, hearing the fairly uncreative and silly music they had at the beginning of the trailer. If they go forth with trying to imitate the style of the sample song they used from How to Train your Dragon though, I can see it going in a very good direction. I hope they don't scrap that concept like they've done with so many of their other brilliant ones.

If they go by the same view in RL as they did in RO they'll have to make the levels alot bigger to quench the exploration thirst many seem to have. Because of the way everything's alot more zoomed out in RO, the cages would still be easy to spot if they were within the level, mostly because you can see so much at once. Still, I bet there's a workaround for this as well.

Even though that's a good idea, the lack of exploratory ability hasn't been a very popular discussion topic, so I doubt it'll happen unless they think of it themselves.
Hoodlum1 wrote:Yeah hopefully that wont be the case.. but! my theory is its the Magician's brother Andrew... its possible
No, just no. I have three things to say here:
  1. Andrew is his Cousin, not his brother.
  2. Andrew's hat is blue and red, not purple.
  3. This is a ridiculous speculation. Do you honestly think they're going to dig up material from an extremely non-canon children's educational game? Mind you the idea would be neat in some prospect, but it's never, ever going to happen like that.
