Thay need to, like someone said before, give each character a special ability. For example: Rayman could throw his first to reach places and cages no other character can, Ly could jump higher, Teensies could use their magic to move big obstacles, Globox could use his rain dance to put out fire...

It sounds like good specific movesets, but I wouldn't wish for them to appear; I don't want to have to play a certain level as a certain character to get to certain places. That forces you to replay the level say four times just to see if you missed a spot that may be accessible by another character.

Of, when you're used to the game, you'll directly know where you need a certain character. And too, you have the cage medallion and all to see when you have everything. Only thing that would be bad would be if you started a level with Rayman and you you reached a place where you need Ly and had to restart the level with her, for example.

Problem is, you're forcing the player to play as a character, if there are segments which require a specific character, even if it does not contribute to the main path "per se," it could aggravate players.
Sometimes, people naturally like a specific character, and they dislike having to switch to another, particularly if it's given playstyle clashes with their own.

I think the point most of us were trying to get across now was that it isn't required, it's just an option to make things easier.

Yeah, because Rayman isn't very 'unique' if his friends have the same abilities as him.

I still think "unique abilities" are unrequired, it could be pretty annoying, specially in multiplayer.

They needn't be specific in nature, but maybe just in appearance. Consider this: if you were to play as a Henchman and as Rayman and as Globox, they would all have something in common: they can all attack. However, the way in which they attack may vary. Henchmen would shoot lazor, Rayman could either shoot majik or pound with his fists (which is up to the developers) and Globox would almost certainly be forced to slap stuff (unless he starts shooting energy out of his mouth that's been trapped there ever since he ate a bunch of Yellow Lums). In essence, all attacks do the same thing, but they could give the player more satisfaction when using them, because they would know that their attack is unique to them.

I see, a bit like what Ratchet and Clank All 4 One did then? Where each character shared the same moveset, but had unique weapons, such as Dr. Nefarious cloaker or Clank's Zoni Blaster.

I guess, but I wouldn't know for sure. I've only ever played a R&C game for one level and that was a decent seven years ago.

The Ratchet and Clank game I am speaking of is a purely Co-Op game, even if you are the one player a follower will still be around. It obviously has some differences compared to the mainstream franchise, but it's not a bad game at all, it's rather entertaining.

Don't. It's been painted here fairly clearly that they're only appearing in that one bonus add on level in my opinion. No need to worry I say.

What the hell? they did that in origins! Rayman punches, Globox slaps and the teensies use magic, but they' all are basically using the same attack.

Exactly... I'm not really sure how no one else except you caught that.

I'm still not in favour of it. Different abilities would actually be nice.

The trick is to find a way to not have them alter the main gameplay too much. I'm confident that this is possible.

moveset variation between characters in a 2d scroller game is unnecessary, however, it would be pretty good for balanced online gameplay, specially in that football thing.

And to have something only your fav character can do. 20+ characters weren't required either but sure they were a nice idea.
