Well said. Also could you give me some advice regarding Raven's character, I'm getting closer to that point in the book and I'm afraid that once I get there I'll get stuck on the chapter.

I never really thought they were in love to begin with really.

How about the fact that Rayman, who is supposed to be a one-of-a-kind hero, meets a female of his species? That is a HUGE fanfiction cliche.
RayFan9876 wrote: he literally destroys the entire Dream Forest, which includes a whole section of his army, almost all of Rayman's friends, and everything else that resides in the giant jungle.
Why would he do this? Is he an idiot? Why waste valuable soldiers? "Because he's evil"? This just seems like an excuse for being "darker".
RayFan9876 wrote: Considering the fact that Rayman was able to defeat all the other enemies, it's a give-in that Dark Rayman is more powerful than the other bad guys, because he's just as powerful as Rayman.
But, if Dark Rayman is exactly as powerful as Rayman, wouldn't that mean he would be easier? It would come down to "how hard you can hit yourself in the face" wouldn't it?
RayFan9876 wrote: Would this not happen after the above? I mean, use your head. There is no instance in which anyone with a normally functioning mind would not mope over something like that; a lack of emotional reaction is just poor writing with a complete misunderstanding of basic, basic, basic psychology.
This is Rayman. The series with a world made of instruments. The game where drums wear scuba gear. Where space men ride giant spoons. where the villain's castle is in a land made out of candy. Where punching old ladies is acceptable. Where the biggest threat has short man's syndrome, is a pirate and also a robot. Where the god of the world wears a funny hat and shorts. This series should totally have a part where EVERYONE DIES.
RayFan9876 wrote:All the heavy things that happen in this game are subtle hinting as to why he, in Rayman 2, seems much more serious and mature, which then begins to lift when he becomes more teenish and relaxed in Rayman 3.
Well, if you watched all your friends be kidnapped, were kidnapped and watched helplessly while your world was taken over by a dictator and filled with monsters, you'd be a bit serious to, wouldn't you?

Here's some thing I like about the game though: The game itself looks fun, the graphics are good, and the music you've made is amazing. I just don't like the story that much.

Yes, it is a very large cliche, but You've seen the RO relics right? That sets this up perfectly. Don't jump to the conclusion that they are the same character now. It's cliche, but Ancel is backing up the entire concept.
Bionichute wrote:Why would he do this? Is he an idiot? Why waste valuable soldiers? "Because he's evil"? This just seems like an excuse for being "darker".
Yes, he is anxious idiot. He's just basically an evil, psychopathic youth that's risen to the throne. If I recall correctly, didn't Razorbeard blow up his entire ship, 'wasting valuable soldiers?'
Bionichute wrote:But, if Dark Rayman is exactly as powerful as Rayman, wouldn't that mean he would be easier? It would come down to "how hard you can hit yourself in the face" wouldn't it?
What? How would it be easier? Let me make a chart for you:

Winner -> Loser

Rayman -> Mister Dark
Rayman -> Razorbeard
Rayman -> Reflux

If Dark Rayman is basically the same as Rayman, stick him in Rayman's place on the chart and see who's more powerful. Do the simple math, hmm?

Just because it has a wacky nature doesn't mean it can't be dark and dramatic; take a look at some of Tim Burton's or Don Bluth's films. That's a rule you came up with from nowhere. Keep in mind, I fully realise what I'm doing with this story, and the story does too. Any two-year-old could say 'ok evry1 diez sudnly lel,' but I can assure you, the story is very solidly structured, and from the notion and build up from start to finish, the near-total-destruction/death may be sudden, but is not out of place.
Bionichute wrote:Well, if you watched all your friends be kidnapped, were kidnapped and watched helplessly while your world was taken over by a dictator and filled with monsters, you'd be a bit serious to, wouldn't you?
Rayman 3 had a similar premise, yet Rayman was cool. Rayman is a very casual but confident hero, and when on an adventure, you can't be consistently serious, unless that was your nature; that is not Rayman's nature.

Thanks. I wouldn't be so irritated by your opinion on the story though if you wouldn't have understood it so poorly.

If I remember correctly, Rayman was headed right towards him, and it was all for nothing at that point.

But if they're completely equal in power, then the fight would end in a stalemate wouldn't it? You're not making any sense to me.
RayFan9876 wrote:Rayman 3 had a similar premise,
It really didn't, well, maybe at the end, but it was really just a trip to the doctor. The Hoodlums were no where near Robo-Pirate level threatening. The Hoodlums never nearly beat Rayman, and take over the world.

Your welcome. I'm sorry i couldn't read 200+ pages of stuff though, just don't have time.

Exactly. And of course it doesn't make sense to you, because you're assuming the progression and outcome of the fight.
Bionichute wrote:Your welcome. I'm sorry i couldn't read 200+ pages of stuff though, just don't have time.
Then perhaps you shouldn't go about telling me how my story goes by assuming all these things that aren't true (like Raven being a love interest, Dark Rayman being better than all the other villains, the final fight being completely standard) and then criticising them. It's like me popping into Drolpiraat's Dreambound thread and telling him "BLUE (main character) SHOULDN'T BE SO ARROGANT, THAT'S CLICHÉ" just because he has sexy, photogenic long hair, implying that those kinds of people are usually arrogant jerks. Then, I would claim to not have known he wouldn't be arrogant because I didn't read through every single page, when in fact his personality was never even given.

That's basically what you did, and it annoys the hell out of me.

Who also destroyed a hundredfold planets, enslaved thousands and destroyed the entire core of a WORLD simply by ruining everything on the surface.

I am curious though to the outcome of this plot - if everyone dies, how can they come back in Rayman 2... ? (Don't tell me!)

Darn it! That project is AWEsome^^

If I had more information about it earlier, I would had help with story and gameplay ideas (that's the only things I'm really good at. FOR NOW!), but I can see that the project is really advanced, so I'll keep my mouth shut. If I have any idea for Rayman's power or something, I'll say it of course: I hope this project will be great! And I have to increase my knowledge of Rayman's world... What powers Rayman will gain? (except Fist, Helicopter and stuff of course^^) I think you can use any power from your imagination, because you're totally free for the gameplay. I think you already know that RayFan9876 :oops2: Can't wait to play try the game^^ It really looks good^^

I already have ideas for that too, but You didn't say anything, so I'll keep that for myself.

Well, after Tortwag, let me get myself involved as well! :)
I have been following this project for some months now and, being extremely impressed, finally decided to join.

Soooo... I happen to have been working on a Graveslave design for a while. Now that the Graveslave designs are current again, should I dig it up and finish it?

Anyway, this has been amazing so far and I hope to be able to contribute a bit! :)

EDIT:
Oh and by the way:
RayFan9876 wrote:Remember, Dark Rayman, while being the exact opposite of Rayman, is still the same 'age' as Rayman, has the same maturity level, and is just as capable at accomplishing things as Rayman was. Considering the fact that Rayman was able to defeat all the other enemies, it's a give-in that Dark Rayman is more powerful than the other bad guys, because he's just as powerful as Rayman. However, as someone who is in control and has such an influential position as the 'head bad guy,' he's far too immature to handle it properly.
That sure is a clever way to handle Bad Dark Rayman!

"There is no good or evil Rayman. Only light and darkness, two equally powerful forces fighting an endless battle can never be won. Even if you can find and defeat me darkness will always come back in a new form, and eventually destruction will come to this world and destroy it." That is a quote of Dark Rayman from chapter 9 of my book.

Maybe you can collaborate with Rulez on coming up with some gameplay/level design ideas. :) Give him a PM.

Sounds good. You might want to give that punctuation a check though, like putting commas after 'fighting' and 'defeat me.'

I will. Even if I contribute a bit, I'll do my best. As I said, I already thought about something for the gameplay and story. And R3fan2, thank you for this quote, 'cause I've got an idea for the story thanks to it. Really good quote^^

So I'll have to PM Rulez, no problems. After, I'll have to talk directly to you as well, right?

I'll tell you about what I've thought about ASAP. College life is a pain... Important, but a pain...

By the way, your messaga about Europe in you're signature is... Creepy. Especially for a european like me, but I can understand why do you think like that.

And Rayfan used to have something she said to that in her signature.
Namely that the word 'cheers' is of European origin, majorly dissing Iambored :P

I'll get to work on the Graveslave design again. Right now, the only things I have left to design are the waist and the legs, then I can draw redraw it a bit larger, because right now it's about an inch tall :P

EDIT:
Turns out it's not in the spot I expected it to be, so I got a lot of searching to do...

EDIT AGAIN:
Augh, it's really gone! I probably drew it in one of my notebooks, but, seeing how I threw out FORTY pounds of paper after passing my exams, I probably threw away the notebook with the design as well.

All right, redrawing.....

Here it is!

The guideline in this design was asymmetry. Dark Rayman gathered the souls of the dead and locked them in these mechanical husks. He built the Graveslaves with whatever he could gather and without any attention to aesthetics, resulting in this highly asymmetrical, bare bones "creature".

I incorporated the Hoodlum gun into the right arm (because you wanted them to have Hoodlum-like guns, right, Rayfan?).

I am afraid I might have made it a bit too realistic, though, trying to explain the way they move with the pulleys, cables and engine.

Oh, and by the way, that scarf-like thing is a rubber connection piece, like those in the right shoulder and right leg :wink:
