Re: Rayman Origins

Post by Keane »

I finally got to playing the Origins 3DS demo...

Why is it that Ubi has a curse that somehow makes them create so many shitty DS games?

The sound is absolutely awful. It sounds like someone recorded Origins with a camera. Now, pretty much every Rayman game for a DS system had buggery sound, but this makes Rayman Raving Rabbids DS look like Beethoven. Dissapointing, because Origins is filled with lovely tracks.

The controls aren't too bad, but it bad enough to make it irritating. The smooth running from Origins now feels like you're in space. All your jumps feel slow. It's saddening, because RO had an amazing set of controls, especially for a Wii game.

I also noticed that the sprite for the exploding barrels in Shooting Me Softly were downgraded, making them appear cartoony and out of place. Defenitely not using the full capability of the 3DS.

The graphics itself are OK, but it seems like your watching a 240p YouTube video, especially with the shitty sound.

Also, why were Teensies scrapped from the 3DS version...?

With the mixture of camera sound, space jumping, downgraded sprites, 240p graphics, and less playable characters, I conclude this game is a bloody insult to the masterpiece that Origins is.

Anyways...

I'm quite sure this has been said a billion times, but the EU box cover seems slightly different from the US. It's more greenish and a Teensie on it cannot be found in the US cover.

It's not just that the teensie is missing, they're actually completely different images. The EU one is zoomed in, so it's obviously being edited to fit on the cover:

EU:

US:

Note how Globox is moved, Rayman''s body parts are closer together, a really clumsy revision of the speed lines trailing Rayman's foot, the psychlops' pupil being pointed to the left so it isn't cut off, the whole pile of enemies is different aside from the psychlops and the red crab thing, and lastly, there are trees in the background.

Though since teensies were taken out of the 3ds version, I can understand why they're not on the cover of the EU version. I actually like the EU cover a lot better (aside from that mistake I mentioned above).

Bleh, sounds like the 3DS version is a bit of a disaster! Origins is such a great game that it doesn't deserve a shoddy port! I hope players don't try to play this one first and then get turned off the game due to it's sloppiness, because I hate it when a first reaction to a game is due to a wonky downport (looks in the direction of Rayman 2 for the PS1)

Come on, Rayman 2 for PS1 was not that bad. I seriously have pity of those that tried Rayman 2 for the first time in a DS.

I'm not sure if the full version of RO got different from the demo but I hardly believe. Plus, I'm interested in the 3DS version but of course for such a glitchy port I would never give away 40€ for it. If anyone wants to play RO for the first time, it is better they don't do it in 3DS.

If anyone bought the game, we would like to know the extras from that version (achievements, etc).

I've wondered are the Daily Bubble soundtracks from the beta game or in common use?

EDIT: I mean some of them.

EDIT: If all of them are from the beta game, damn they scrapped too many tracks!
Someone should record good ones and put them to Raytunes.

Yeah, Rayman DS is pretty disastrous - particularly when it comes to butchering the soundtrack with a sharp bladed knife ;). Rayman 2 PS1 did have a couple of nice touches that aren't in the other versions - like the cute little Ludivs that follow Rayman when you free them from the cages - that was very Rayman 1 :P. Overall though, I think it did cripple my first impressions on Rayman 2.

You are right about Rayman 2 for PS1. Its pretty good and it comes with 1 level from the cancaleed Rayman 2.

^ also that! I love how they included cancelled beta stuff as a bonus and the end, they should do that more often - imagine all the scrapped stuff from the other Rayman games, like the SNES version of Rayman 1....

I'm still not sure what the cancaleed Rayman 2 is though ;)

It isn't only the prototype R2 bonus, there are interesting level changes, more notably in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire. I also like the fact that the guardians speak to Rayman before fighting, the Teensies speaking to Rayman in the Hall of Doors (with real doors), plus the Ninja Henchmen mini-boss fights.

Because Beethoven had the technology to produce recordings at bitrates that would make Hans Zimmer himself blush.

I don't understand what the fuss is over R2 being (in some people's opinions) worse than the others. I myself have only played R2 on PS1 (except when I played Rayman Revolution and got stuck with Uglette and her babies. Game glitched out and I couldn't get out XD) and I don't think it has in any way crippled my thoughts on the game. It's wonderful and awesome.

Offtopic, I really don't think I should've looked at the R2 and R4 cancelled prototypes, because they make wish so much that those games became true.

I'm not having an issue. Perhaps try deleting clientregistry.blob in your Steam folder?

Do you want my opinion, Spanex? I have a pirated RO for PC because I'm waiting for a bargain in eBay for the retail PC game. :P

Well, I had an update before for the 1.02 executable file, is it the version that is missing to you?
