Well, Lianna suggested that about a years ago and I said it was quite a good and cool idea, though I eventually decided against it, seeing as it would be really unfitting against the rest of her colours, and it would also be completely unfitting for the snowy mountain environment she's always lived in.

Woah ! Good job RayFan
sry i just registered myself on the site 2 weeks ago but i discovered your post and i m really interested by your work on a Rayman opus out of Ubi's production (when i saw that i said WTH IS THIS FAN ? SO GOOD ;)...).
so i tested your stresstest with my lil' laptop ( hp dv6 pavilion with i3). It works well (didnt note frame rate but i can if you want ^^) but is it normal that the camera answers about 1 sec after my moves on the keyboard.
Your demos are just wonderful ! when i see it, i can't help but remember FarCry a few (maybe because it's near to the beach or in the jungle on an island).

Thanks again for your work and sorry if i do some english mistakes (if i did some obviously ^^').

Yeah, the fact of it being in a jungle near a beach is epic. It reminded me of Crash Bandicoot and I loved it a lot.

WHOA!

This fangame looks epic!! It's a gargantuan project for such a small team, but somehow I don't doubt that it will be finished! Your devotion to it is amazing :D

This game seems to have a darker atmosphere than previous Rayman games, and I like it. But I do hope that it retains the feeling of exploring this magical realm that is the Glade of Dreams - it's kinda hard to describe :fou2:. But with such amazingly varied and numerous locations it certainly looks like this will be the case!
It's also great to revisit previous locations, nostalgia ftw! I do hope that even in previously seen places there will be new features (enemies, obstacles etc.) but again you seem to have got that covered :)
The story is awesome! It's a relief to actually have a good story again. I thought Rayman 2's story was the best so far. Origins was horrible, story-wise. There was no real story. I had to read the RayWiki article to understand what was going on. Your game finally has a cast of interesting characters again, and a proper enemy.
Also, judging by the amount of enemies Rayman will encounter, combat encounters seem to be an important part of the game (kinda like R3) and that's fantastic.

I could ask a million questions, but don't worry, I won't do that :P. I just want to ask one thing: in the past Rayman games, there has always been "alternative platforming" - sections of levels where you don't do standard platforming, but instead travel in some other way (examples: the walking/flying shells, plum riding, Teensie Highways). Will there be similar sections in your game? I hope so :). They offer a nice break from the usual gameplay.

Heh, thanks! :) It also probably reminds you of Far Cry because it's using CryEngine3, and Far Cry used the original CryEngine.

Thanks very much as well! I'm definitely trying to make the Glade seem as mystical, mysterious, grand and adventurous as possible. The hardest part I think will be attaining that level of mystery that Rayman 2 had, but I'm trying my best in that regard. Also, yes, combat is a very big part of this game. But so is platforming, of course! The combat however is much more in depth, allowing for combos, fist fighting, throwing your fist, and the magic fist. It will all work together very nicely.

And yeah, there are quite a few of those breakaways, including plum riding, caahh driving, sssssnake sliding, vulture flying, Moskito riding, surf sliding and more!

You're saying all the right things and you know what the fans like :D (because you are one :P)
It all sounds and looks really really promising and I'll download the stresstest now to help you :)
Only problem: this laptop I'm on is anything but decent... for example, I get like 6 fps when I play Minecraft with the Optifine (FPS boost) mod installed...

Well then, you're not going to get much more than 1/100th of that performance in here. :P

Do not grieve, you are not the only one to suffer from lacklustre specs.

All I am getting is a black window (titled 'CryEngine' or something like that) and after a few seconds the window closes again. What went wrong? :(
First question: there are 3 rar files on that mediafire page... part 1 seems to be the complete package? I extracted part 1 to my desktop, edited autoexec.cfg to 1600x900, ran Launcher.exe in the Bin64 folder (yes, I do have a 64-bit OS), and then that black window opened and closed. I did not get the 'dxdx9_43.dll is missing' error because I have DirectX installed (this is WIndows 7).
Also, as I was extracting the rar 7-zip told me that the 'archive ends unexpectedly'.
I also tried running launcher.exe as admin, and placing it in another folder (downloads) instead of on the desktop. But still, nothing. :(

I think a very important aspect in R2's feel was its colours. It had a really good palette, that always helped you get more into the level.

Robotic, you need to combine the archives; select all three and extract them at the same time to the same place.

Also, you need a minimum of DirectX9 to run it. Evey single Windows runs with DirectX, having DX or not isn't the issue here. It's probably the fact that you didn't combine the archives when extracting, but it could also be due to a lack of drivers or an unsupported GPU/CPU.

You know the game is been improved a lot since February when the stresstest was released i believe. And if it lag a lot you could try update your graphic card :)

Hope its helps

If by 'improved,' you mean much more detail added, much higher res textures (as opposed to those low res motherfckers I released with the stresstest), and DX11 support, which all together would cause even more lag? Then yes, it's been improved a lot. Also, it's four engine builds newer than in February, so it's bound to be more stable than before.

Whenever I decide to release the next test or alpha, there are three things you can expect: 1) A fully animated Rayman to control; 2) a much larger area; 3) at least 3-5 times the download size.

Awe-some. I'd be loving that. Hell, my friend, even my dad would be loving that. And they're not even fully-fledged Rayman fans; my friend just really likes it and my dad likes the music (Rayman 2 ofc).

Also, saerleiya, are you using a laptop? You won't get good results from a laptop unless it's one of those killer gaming laptops by for example Alienware.

I like some of the platform break-aways you mentioned. I'm glad I've been thinking about the same kind of variation all the way through for my own game. I've got platforming alternating with Shell-riding, slippery-slope-sliding, air-flying, facility-exploding, army-battling zane. And it will rule.
