Re: Rayman 1
I think it's gotten to the stage where I would be more interested in a remake of the original Rayman than I would be in a new Rayman game.

Re: Rayman 1
Why? A remake of Rayman 1 would be nice, but it won't feature new content (or, at best, very little new content). Wouldn't a whole new game be better?
I know more is not always better, but if a new Rayman game would be of high quality, I'd rather have that than a remake.

Re: Rayman 1
The Rayman series has gradually lost sight of what made it as good as it once was. I would say this began eleven years ago, with the release of Rayman M, and continued with Rayman 3 and Rayman Raving Rabbids. Origins might be the most well-intentioned Rayman game we've seen in a long time, but despite its attempts to tie itself to the earlier games, it strays ever further form them in terms of tone and aesthetics.Robotic Teensie wrote:Why? Last night I had a dream about how this level would look and feel if the original game were released today. No slapping, no fart jokes, no Rabbids – just lonely mountain ridges and celestial vistas. That's when I realised I'd be more excited for an R1 remake than I am for Rayman Legends. I think this means we have crossed some kind of threshold.
I hope the Abe's Oddysee remake is successful enough to start a trend.

I agree with you. It would be very nice if they make a new version of Rayman 1 and make it into a HD versionspiraldoor wrote:I think it's gotten to the stage where I would be more interested in a remake of the original Rayman than I would be in a new Rayman game.

I can't wait for the gameplay footage that is going to be shown next month, the screenshot they revealed made me hyper about this remake.spiraldoor wrote:

Because of it, I was imagining a Rayman 1 remake but with three-dimensional support exactly like in the Oddysee remake that is being made. I think it would be interesting as long as it didn't lose its vital characteristics that makes R1 a distinct game.
But I know how you feel. I've thought a lot in this subject, and I hardly think that Ubisoft will make another game with the same charm (or better) of R1 and R2. It seems that nowadays the fashion is the "nonsense", something quite unusual 15 years ago (EWJ is an exception). If Ubisoft ever aims to make a better Rayman game than R2, they do have a really hard task in front of them.
Re: Rayman 1
I fully agree with Spiraldoor. Rayman 3 was unlike the series, containing more humour based dialogue. Rayman Raving Rabbids continued on this to a point where Rayman has become a wacky character rather then the hero. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere put into Origins and will probably enjoy it too in Legends, but I miss the concept of dark mountains and the wind in the background. I've found Picture City to be a great world simply because it was able to switch from a jolly world to a dark, somewhat depressing state.

Re: Rayman 1
Yeah, I understand what you're saying. The more recent Rayman games just don't have the same kind of atmosphere any more. But I'm still hoping for a return to the high standards set by the first few games... it must be possible for Ubisoft to make games like they used to; the question is whether they want to. For some reason, they seem to think cartoonish, slapstick-humour games are better. Maybe because that suits their audience better? I mean, players of Rayman games are on average rather young, I think...spiraldoor wrote:The Rayman series has gradually lost sight of what made it as good as it once was. Re: Rayman 1
I would like a Rayman 1 remake, but I'd rather it stick to 2D and not 2.5D like NSMB or Sonic 4, I would rather see a Rayman 1 remake which retains the art-style.
I agree that the jokes and humour are beginning to become too much of a definitive trait, while it is true Rayman's first couple of games included humour, it was in moderation, not be overcome by it, as seen in recent titles.

Re: Rayman 1
That's the problem: this new generation is flooded with "nonsense" culture. People like me, children of the 90s didn't have this kind of style in our cultural lives. I have no doubts that I'm lucky to have born in the 90s, I've had the pleasure to try out games from the gold era of gaming. True classicals. Rayman 2 is on the list.Robotic Teensie wrote: Maybe because that suits their audience better? I mean, players of Rayman games are on average rather young, I think...

I actually think the Abe HD screenshot looks a bit drab and colourless, but I still have high hopes for the game itself.Haruka wrote:I can't wait for the gameplay footage that is going to be shown next month, the screenshot they revealed made me hyper about this remake.
I'd love to see a remake based on new high-resolution scans of the original artwork, but a version where everything is completely recreated in 3D could feel much more immersive and alive.Haruka wrote:Because of it, I was imagining a Rayman 1 remake but with three-dimensional support exactly like in the Oddysee remake that is being made. I have to say, though, that Rayman Origins - while it was disappointing in terms of story and atmosphere - had enjoyable gameplay. I would rather have more Rayman games like that, than no Rayman games at all. But of course Rayman 2-style adventures would be best.
Can't we, the Pirate Community - as the largest Rayman fan community - write a letter or something to Ubisoft about this? Would they consider our opinions? If we can influence them to move their focus away from the nonsense just a tiny bit... that would be awesome.

Re: Rayman 1
I don't think we have ever tried that, but our letter would most likely get crumpled up by a secretary and thrown in a wastepaper basket. And rightly so: the developers seem perfectly at ease with what they are doing and show no signs of needing any assistance. If for some strange reason they decide they want to know what we think, I imagine they will drop by the forum and see for themselves.
Re: Rayman 1
Indeed, normally petitions give nothing.
And it isn't the first time that Ubisoft came to the forum.

Re: Rayman 1
Like other things that have expanded exponentially into a giant metropolitan explosion of chaos, money and competition, people just fall into place. Sometimes a concept of something so great, so wonderful comes up through a child's most wondrous dreams (probably the case of Ancel and Rayman) can feel like such a high point that you try to top it. And with Rayman 2, I bet Ancel already had that plan. But what's to come afterward? He probably forgot how to think like he used to when creating Rayman 1 and 2, and became just too casual about it, to the point of thinking "This is cartoony and eccentric, just like those googly eyed guys I made back in Rayman 1, but even more out-there!"
It's a bit frightening. I wonder if he thought about this when he was starting out. Actually, I wonder if he thinks about it now. The creative aspect virtually lies in his hands alone to make something as good as he had in the past, and it's up to him when he decides to remember and make use of it. He's merely skimming on the edge right now.
