Yes, thank you! I've never been able to understand why some people are so desperate for a Rayman RPG in the first place. To me it makes about as much sense as wanting a bowling game based on Need for Speed.
Bzzit wrote: That was basically the same case for Mario but they managed to pump out a few awesome RPGS based round his world, Raymans universe would suit the RPG genre much better than Marios actually. Still im unsure about the concept, would be weird giving rayman more than 2 lines of dialogue in a game :mryellow:
Mario is so insanely popular that you can build almost any sort of game around the franchise and still expect it to sell. This isn't at all the case with Rayman, so suddenly going off into strange new directions like that is probably going to end in failure.
I understand it would most likely fail commercially and stuff, I was just saying that in comparison to Marios world and lore Rayman would suit the RPG genre better with its fairies, Giants and what not 8)

But it wouldn't fit at all in its style. Rayman was, is and probably will continue to be a platformer and - aside from a few spin-offs like the Rayman Karts - I doubt they'll want to change that playing style. It works for Rayman and an RPG would most likely not. In Rayman 1, not a word more than about ten sentences had to be said throughout the entire game, in R2 the things that were said were short and effective and in 3... well, ok, they rambled along a lot in 3. The result was that most jokes or long-winding conversations were received badly. Talking isn't really Rayman's thing. And when I say "Rayman's thing", I mean "Rayman's world's thing".

Attention, I am not in dispair to see a RPG Rayman. I can repeat that my RPG tastes are limited to Super Mario and Pokémon.

Suppose for a moment we are participating in a poll by developers of Rayman RPG, and it is enforced by UbiSoft for some random reason. Say, Ancel was asked by Nintendo Power about upcoming Rayman spin-offs and made something up.

The developers are considering following three development scenarios:
Scenario 0.0: No major universe inventions. All races already appeared in the games.
Scenario 1.0: No major universe changes. New regions, some stuff is new.
Scenario 2.0: Not only a lot of things are new, they are actually changed to create "fitting" atmosphere.
You are supposed to answer with a possibly fractional number to select the scenario you would like, or say that question is flawed. What will be your answer? You are supposed to explain your choice.

Believe it or not, it's good for you.

The question was caused by the Haruka's taste for Mario RPGs; every time I browse SmashBoards, people can't have enough of talking about them being so different than the rest. So I asked myself whether this would make sense in case of Rayman, and I have no idea. I think I'd go with something a bit more safe, like 0.8. There are already loads of races being ready for polishing, in my opinion.

I'd agree with you there. I wouldn't like them changing things just to make things fit in, but it would be nice to see the RPG aspect of characters, since video game people in RPGs behave very differently to those in other franchises.

Also, I agree that the Mario RPGs are really different to the other Mario games. Partners in Time feels like it has an excellent and simple story, while other Mario games just have a simple story.

They are different yes, but they are usually done extremely well, I've played both Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story and enjoyed them immensely.

I have several things that I would like to see in a new Rayman game:

1. A better continuity. It can be very jarring to see established elements and concepts of Rayman's world change so drastically between each game. I'm not trying to stifle the creativity or anything, I just want a little more consistency. It also tends to bring about a lot of unanswered questions (Where is the Valley located? Where are the islands from Origins located? What's the deal with Tarayzan and the Musician? Why did the Magician change species? What's with the inconsistencies regarding the Knowledge of the World? What happened to the Great Protoon/Is the Protoon the same thing as the Heart of the World?, etc).

2. A 3-dimensional set-up. I don't mind 2-D, but I feel that there's a lot you can do with Rayman in that set-up. It's a great mixture of open and linear gameplay that can give a sense of adventure, magic, suspense, and omen (more-so in Rayman 2 than 3, though).

3. A return of characters such as Ly, Clark, Eig, Sssssssam, Joe, and others. Since Betilla has returned as a major character, I would love to see a rivalry between her and Ly. Maybe Ly could be from a different group of fairies that don't get along with nymphs or something. Also, Betilla should act as a "mother" for Rayman while Ly should be a good friend. Clark would be a nice addition to give the series more of a main cast than recent installments. Ssssssam and Eig could be either friends or enemies and act as the main characters of the swamp levels. Joe could tie into a concept that I will introduce in the next section.

4. The alien race from Tonic Trouble playing a role in the plot with The General as either the main villain or just a major villain. Yes, Tonic Trouble sucked, but the concept of these limbless aliens could be very useful in the series. One reason being that they are, well, limbless. This could add a concept of there being more than one limbless race and more than one ways for limblessnes to occur. Another reason is that The General was supposed to be the villain of Rayman 2 back when it was being developed as a 2-D game, and has been established in Rayman's universe (which, in turn, established Tonic Trouble within Rayman's universe, at least in my eyes). Also, I would just like to see Rayman beat the crap out of Ed. Heck, maybe Ed could defect to Rayman's side at some point and become a regular character or something (or maybe not). It definitely seems like Ubisoft remembers Tonic Trouble, since Gourmand Land in Origins has elements of that game in it (the martini/cocktail theme and the fire-breathing chili peppers to name a few). I don't know, I think it could work. Also, Joe could set the whole alien thing in motion (maybe he could have connections with the race or something).

5. The muse/ex-wife of Polokus playing a role in the plot. Rayman might have to search for her in the forest to get her aid and maybe help her see that the Teensies aren't as bad as she thinks.

6. The People of Prhys. This could help give a back story to Ly and explain why she is the way she is.

7. The Knarren and Leptys. I would love to see a back story for Leptys and the Knarren as this could open a whole new element to the series: gods. Now, Polokus is considered somewhat of a god already, but it is mentioned (and shown) that there is more than one god in Rayman's world. Establishing these gods and giving little bits of information about who they actually are can give this world more depth while still retaining a sense of mystery and wonder. Also, the Knarren are a good addition in terms of threatening races, so it would be neat to see them again.

8. A relatively more serious tone/plot-line (without sacrificing the humor, of course).

For a completely unrelated game, how about the "first nightmare" as a basis?

Anyway, that's what I would like to see in a new game. There's probably more things, but I can't think of them right now.

Re: Future Rayman games

Someone on the forums posted that they saw a pattern, I don't remember who but it went like this:

Rayman 1
Rayman 2
Rayman 3

Raving Rabbids
Raving Rabbids 2
TV Party (these are only the ones Rayman was in.)

So notice they are both trilogies.

So I am guessing:
Origins
Legends
Unknown 3rd prequel
Possibly the 3rd might be about the hoodlums...

Since Origins and Legends are back-to-back, I would assume that the 3rd would release in 2013. So mabye after 2013 we can expect a new 3d Rayman 4? Kind of gets the blood pumping huh? So about the 4th game, Michel Ancel said that he might end up using the 4 prototype. The idea of 4 was to fight zombie rabbids in a beat em up fashion, but since they used the rabbids any way they might replace them with new badguys, also the feature to connect and ride on animals like giant spiders and birds was taken out. That should return. Finally, what about Raymans girlfriend I want her to return.

Oh, and I don't know why the hate for a rayman RPG I would like to see 4 first but I like the idea. Not a turned based RPG like pokemon or Final Fantasy but a free roam one like skyrim. You can roam around a huge world going against new and old enemies. Some new reigons as well. You can level up by defeating enemies and there could be expansions!

Oh and about the trilogy thing. If there's a original trilogy, a Rabbids trilogy, and a possible prequel trilogy, should we expect 4, 5, and 6? An entire sequel trilogy?

Woah I'm getting ahead of myself. There's some food for thought.

None of those are prequels, why would the third one be a prequel?

No, I meant that a possible third prequel might be efore rayman 1 but concentrate on 3, just like origins concentrates on 1 and legends on 2

Yes. You saying it is? Why's that? It once was supposed to be, but since the first trailer, things have changed.

Yes; the game was supposed to portray the origins of Rayman and his friends, originally, but they changed that during development. Now it's another game in the regular series, and we believe it to take place after the events of Rayman 3, I think, since there's no clear evidence why it should be in any other place.

Well, Origins IS a prequel to the first, and Legends IS a sequel to Origins so you figure out the rest. :fou2:
