Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
Hmm... how about this:
When a new user account is created, redirect them to a welcome page with links to "Please introduce yourself here" and "All you need to know about Pirate-Community".
I have no idea if that would be easy to implement; if it's very difficult then obviously don't bother. But if it's relatively easy to do, it might be nice.

Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
Nah that's easy, but that wouldn't change much.
Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
Yeah, it wouldn't do anything in the same way as displaying the code of conduct does nothing.

I altered some settings, hopefully we'll get less of them.

Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
That's odd, in the past few months I know of two other forums (one of which I'm an admin on) that have had a spambot infestation.
Maybe they're getting organized!

I believe you are actually one of them.

Don't deal to soon, let's just see what he'll do in the future.
Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
Is it possible to get captcha for phpBB? That'd probably filter most of the bots when they're registering.

They use Capcha, but bots have gotten smarter and have resumed their bombardment.Manfred wrote:Is it possible to get captcha for phpBB? That'd probably filter most of the bots when they're registering.
Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
Okay, I didn't remember if there was one. For some reason phpBB forums always has this spambot issue, more than other forum softwares, as I've seen.Master4lyf1 wrote:They use Capcha, but bots have gotten smarter and have resumed their bombardment.
Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
The only thing we ask is that if you see a bot post, please report it by clicking over the triangle with the exclamation mark and follow the instructions.
That's enough to bring us attention so no need to contact us directly or using other topics to bring that up. Members that reply to bots can get penalized for that.

Re: Spambots and how to deal with them
We've been using captchas for ages but they're useless now that bots have become better than humans at solving them. We are, on the other hand, also using a much more efficient solution which prevents almost 99 bots out of 100 from registering. So, no worries, everything is under control.

By the way sorry for the late reply, I'm an idiot and I forgot to activate the email notifications.
