Super Paper Mario and the entire Sonic series minus Sonic Heroes.
And with TV series the answer is MLP, I fucking hate bronies.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I like the classic sidescrolling Sonics, especially the second one, but I won't touch anything else in the franchise. Several people seem to feel this way though, so I won't get many hipster points for that.
Then there's Super Mario Galaxy 2 (...much filler HA!), which I've already explained fairly well, and Brawl, which is also disliked by a number of people, but for much dumber reasons than mine, one of these being tripping. My problems with it involve a general lack of satisfying impact to hits, a lack of focus on the fighting aspect in general (no combo moves and too much focus on jumping around, giving some characters an extreme advantage to others), too much extra crap that nobody cares about (stickers, events, that horrible adventure mode), and an unpleasant art direction, with ugly special effects and characters that for the most part haven't been redesigned to fit into the same game. The first two points mostly, as they prevent the game from being much fun.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
i have a sudden urge to go play paper mario 2 now, so good. Didn't mind the 3rd, but yeah ts kinda sucky against TTYD. Havn't actually played the first though.
Im mixed with the whole Sonic issue. I grew up with the series and loved them, but now when i play them i do feel that they are worse than i remember, especially anything post-adventure 2.ut tht still doesn stop me m enjoying playing them (Aside '06. That game can f*** right off) Though The series is begining to find a formula that works they all feel a bit same-y now. Not to say they're not getting better, but if you didn't like colours, chances are you won't like generations.
The game im birnging to the table though is Metal Gear Solid 2.
It was just one convoluted mindf*** that didn't have any of the flair or atmosphere that i liked in the first.
It just didn't feel like a MGS game. Strangly enough though, i was fine with the Raiden switch.

I like SMG2, at least I find it less frustrating than SMS, but yet challenging.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
i quite liked SMG2 but i didnt find it as enthralling as the first. It was alot more challenging and fair but it seemed to be more linier than the first, which was already a pretty linear game. I stopped playing it when i got to the green stars challenge though, should probably finish it.
And i also hate final fantasy, but i don't mind kingdom hearts strangly.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
possibly with the exception of the first game, the Lego series has always really bored me, in fact, I think the only reason I like Lego star wars is because it was the first of its kind and the gameplay was new, if I played it again now, I'd probably feel the same way about the others, but every game after that was essentially the same game, just a different set of levels, and not enough changes to gameplay, in fact the only good thing I can find good about each Lego game is their humour, but even that's starting to get stale, I at least got a chuckle from the majority of cutscenes in star wars and Indiana Jones, but I barely laughed through Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm pretty sure that I'm definitely not the only person who doesn't like the Lego games, but seriously, they need a change of gameplay quickly or their going to start selling badly, which I don't want because I love Lego as a whole but the games got old really fast
that lego city game for wii U looks like its going in the right direction by making it a free roamer, but other than that it looks like same old lego game to me.
Even though lego have stopped making figures, I'd honestly like to see a new Bionicle game, perhaps an action RPG? after all,Bionicle is the only toy series that comes to my mind that started off as a toy but actually told a story, and a good one at that.
...what? you were expecting me to mention another game?

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I completely agree with you there. I really quite liked Lego Star Wars I and II, but after that I found most of the games to be all too similar.
Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
As many i really dislike Sonic series. Ah, and most of the games inspired of movies (excepted those for Lord of The Rings, or James Bond's serie). Many of them are just so bad i don't want to just take a look at the box containing the game
.
For example : Eragon on PS2 (or PS3 i didn't remember). As I just thought that people who made this one just KILLED EVERY POSSIBILITIES OF MOVIES from the serie of Eragon (the movie is horrible, no coincidence, clothes and many characters don't suit to the story, Urgals are a perfect representation of the LAZYNESS of the producers), the game was as bad as the movie was : no real storyline, Saphira is a combo u have somtimes to burn some enemies on the land, and gameplay is just so horrible that u say "OMG is this game for a PS1 ?"
That's all i wanted to say about this s***. People who made Eragon's movie and games, U SUCK I HATE YOU !!!!

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
Games based on films are generally crap because the developers have to rush them out in time to capitalise on the buzz surrounding the film, which maximises profits while saving money on marketing. Games that are released a few years after the film they're based on – like GoldenEye 007 – don't have this constraint, and are almost always better. Still, there are occasional exceptions, like Michel Ancel's King Kong, which is far better than the Peter Jackson film it's based on.
And to be fair to the people who worked on the Eragon film and game, they didn't exactly have great source material.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
He's right, I've been teached since a very long time that buying games based up in movies is a bad idea. I think the only exception I can bring out to the surface is The Emperor's New Groove Action Game. Probably the only game based up in a movie that I enjoyed and think it is ok.spiraldoor wrote:Games based on films are generally crap because the developers have to rush them out in time to capitalise on the buzz surrounding the film, which maximises profits while saving money on marketing. Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
Maybe, but for "At the world's crossroad" (i don't know if it is well re-translated because this is the french title of the serie), which i think got as good universe as Eragon, it was a quite good movie. Not as LOTR, but still quite good. Even if people who worked on Eragon hadn't great source material, I think this is a too-fast made movie. For me they wanted to use the great popularity of the serie during its first years and did a movie about it too early.spiraldoor wrote: And to be fair to the people who worked on the Eragon film and game, they didn't exactly have great source material.
Even if it wasn't the same period, there is a gap of 45 years between the LOTR book written by Tolkien and Peter Jackson's trilogy. Maybe people wanted to wait before doing a movie of it or this is only the current period of movies which is like that. Indeed I don't want to compare it to Harry Potter's serie where a movie was on screens only 2 or 3 years after the book, but the universe was not too far more developped than in Eragon. Except the fact that HP's story is taking place in the world of nowadays, I really don't find apologizes to give to Eragon's movie and game.
Sorry if we are going a little bit away from the topic subject but i wanted to say something about Eragon's adaptations which really disappointed me at every level...

Counter Strike and other stupid fps-es. Every boy is talking about it! I can't understand them. I'm not supporting unjustifed killing and violence ><
