Re: Rayman Legends

I have played all of the Crash Bandicoot games. Some are good others are god-awful, but all in all, The whole Crash series is rather lackluster.

Crash Bandicoot- A challenging platformer because of stiff controls showing the 3D capabilities of the PS1.

Crash Bandicoot: Cortex Strikes Back- A well improved sequel to the first game with a little more variety in levels, but nontheless still lacking originality.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped- A third installment, the gameplay has a little more depth in terms of boss battles and it tackles even more gameplay genres, probably the best game of the PS1 series.

C.T.R.- A nice alternative to Mario Kart, quite mediocre with a lack of originality though.

Crash Bash- A bland, uninspired, lifeless, souless, and just plain bad party game starring Crash and Co.

'Wrath of Cortex- A fairly fun 3D platformer that's rather short and plays almost just like 'Warped.

Crash GBA games- The huge Adventure, N-Tranced, Purple: Ripto's Rampage, Nitro Kart, and 'Titans, mostly solid 2D platformers exept the latter third one which is an terrible cross-over/ tie-in to make a quick buck and sell Mcdonald's Happy Meals, otherwise stay clear from these unless you're extremely desperate for a 2D platformer on GBA.

'Nitro Kart- A few improvements over C.T.R., but largely poor controls make it even worse than its predecessor.

Twinsainity- A fresh take on the series with the same platforming gameplay in an open-world environment. Some humor here and there, possibly one of the only entries really worth playing.

Tag Team Racing: on the bottom of the list of racing titles out there, even worse with its tedious and boring mission based hub-world gameplay with bland racing stages and modes as well.

Crash of the Titans- I only played the DS and GBA versions, but still the game was too short, too easy, and the voice acting sucked, with mostly lifeless environments and boring gameplay.

Mind Over Mutant- Even worse than its predecessor, this time with unbearable cutscenes with adult jokes, and voice-overs by Tom Kenny. Otherwise quite the same as Crash of The Titans just even less inspired and tedious.

Thus Crash dissappeared off the face of the Earth.

Overall, the Crash series could have been pretty good but, with the blandness, unoriginality, and the whole lackluster feel that the character and series itself had, it just came out short on the end. I advise Just stick with Rayman and save yourself some time and let this troubled series of games lay to rest.
I've now spent over 30 minutes typing this. :tssk:

...I was going to buy New Super Mario Bros U, just to calm my need of Rayman Legends, then I tried NSMBW and remembered how much it sucks. Seriously. I just got used to Rayman Origins' controls, Mario is just too slow (a lot slower in comparison with Super Mario World and even Yoshi in Yoshi's Island), you really feel like... controlling a fat plumber, who starts slowly and then runs at medium speed, and that just sucks. I think I can barely reach Rayman's walking speed while running with a Starman, seriously.

Seriously? The controls were fine on my part - what console did you play it on? I have an Xbox. Maybe that that makes a difference.

If I hear about the series from your viewpoint, I'm more than glad I only own Twinsanity as a non-racing spin-off. It puts the series on a much higher pedestal for me than it must be in your eyes.

I think that the PS1 Crash games are a must-have for a Retro Gaming collection.

@RayTunes I never played Spyro, in my case :P. But I got plenty of recommendations to grab the PS1 titles. I should try out MediEvil too. I can recommend anybody to try out Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, as far you get used to the controls.

I've only played the game's PS2 counterpart, I will warn you, my description might be a little off on Nitro Kart, because it has been some years since I've played it. I do the remember the steering was slow and somewhat unresponsive though. I'll get the game out again today and then I'll describe it with better judgement.

I just played Crash Nitro Kart, and it is a little better than what I gave it credit for. The steering is rather stiff when driving in the hub world. But it seems decent during races. But otherwise this game is just like C.T.R., in terms of plot and racing, seriously, from what I know there's only one new addition that C.T.R. didn't have, it was the ablity to team-up with another racer on your select team, I might need to do it again, but it more or less seems like you're just sharing power-ups. In the end, the controls are a little laggy, which shouldn't happen in a racing game, the FMV cutscenes are awful, and there wasn't much depth in the courses, they're somewhat shallow. Basically, it's just Crash Team Racing for PS2, Xbox, and GC. If you absolutely need a Crash racing fix just go play C.T.R. and don't waste your time with the "other" two games.
I remembered, I've never played Crash!, Boom!, Bang! on DS, but I've heard it's BAD, and I watched a video for it too, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME AT ANY COST!!!

Hopefully they'll setup the Wii U soon at our closest GameStop. Finally, Nintendo has a GOOD idea, WOW. Making the Wii U playable to the general public was smart. They really want this thing to sell don't they.

I was thinking...Murfy would be easy to control on mobile phones like android wouldn't he? I mean...think about it...controlling Murfy on a touch screen. None of you may agree but I think that's a great idea.

The Wii U's Game Pad is a touch screen, isn't it? Besides, unless you have one of those beasts of a phone, the Game Pad would be larger, meaning it'd have a larger screen. Neat idea though, but a little useless in this case.

That might work when porting it to other platforms, but single player mode would be near impossible, plus you would have to buy a Smart Phone, if you didn't have one in order to play the game. As Shrooblord SAID, the screen would be too small as well. UPDATE: sorry to offend you Shrooblord, I made a typo, darn touch screen!

I was delving into some of the older pages of this thread and came across one of my first posts, The Mr. Magoo jokes. I tried to use this as a funny meme to get attention. Gees, I look back on this being somewhat embarrassed. You have to admit though, Gool 'ol Quincy Magoo sure is a slick one. :hehe:

I actually tried the demo out today at Gamestop, which has set up a kiosk to try out the Wii U. Anyways, the game is completable without Murfy's assistance and he can easily be activated with the touch screen (when inactive, it'll show an animation of him sleeping). When you complete a level, you'll be ranked with trophies (bronze, silver and gold) depending on how many Teensies you have found (10 each, 2 of which represent a queen and prince/king).

The fun part was tickling the enemies, they have some wacky animations, as well as for some background elements (such as this spider dangling in the dungeon's foreground, whose red eyes bulge and screams as it's cut from the silk string).

I also had and played all Crash Bandicoot games. I think the good ones are Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, Warped, CTR, The Warth of Cortex, Crash Nitro Kart and Twinsanity. All the others are pretty bad and the last two are just awful.
