Indie Games
Talk about your favorite indie games, ones you're currently playing, or ones you plan to develop here. I haven't played too many indie games since I'm not really a PC gamer, I've mostly played the more mainstream titles that have been ported to other consoles, like Cave Story and VVVVVV, which I both highly recommend. I have aspirations to work in the game industry some day, and making indie games is a great start or even a career. I have a great idea for a 2D platformer that I conceived back in October 2010 during a boring math class, (yes I know, I should have been paying attention) when my attention went off Factor Trees and Variables, thus, I started doodling in my math notebook, and made a design for the game's protagonist then built onto it. Today, I don't regret those 5 minutes at all. If it weren't for some pesky people out there on the Internet that could take advantage of my idea, I'd share it with all of you. My tools are Gamemaker 8.1 standard and DarkBasic which I'm experimenting with.

Re: Indie Games
Call it something of a personal taste, but I really dislike the indie games that try and make themselves look retro, as in 80''s-early 90's retro, like Cave Story for instance. This is probably because I see it as less of a stylistic choice and more of an indulgence in what already once was but is no more. 16-bit was 16-bit because the ability to do better wasn't there; I'm sure if there was better technology, they wouldn't have stayed like that. These kinds of indie games I've seen an uproar of in the last few years, and it really irritates me. I'm not saying it's objectively bad, I just can't stand it.
To be honest, I've hardly played many indie games at all (mostly due to a large portion being like the above), and a decent portion that I did try really didn't feel very impressive at all. But what if it's something like Black Mesa? Oh hell yes.

Re: Indie Games
I dunno man, played Limbo and that was pretty cool, but not much else. Yet I'm very interested in Super Meat Boy, that one looks sweet.

Re: Indie Games
Super Meat Boy is one of those things that seems more like a flash game that got viral instead of a full indie game. It's good though, it just doesn't feel like anything more than an addictive mobile app game.

Re: Indie Games
wasn't sure what to call it indie (indie games really need to have a indie game qualifier) but the game that i've been looking at, called "a hat in time" looks amazing! its a throwback to classic N64 platformers like banjo & kazooi and mario 64, and features a wind waker-esque girl with a violet cape and top hat. wish I could send a link but i'm on my darn 3ds right now, so i'll be sure to edit the post or something on monday when I'm able to access a PC again.
