Okay, I'm playing the game now, on Ubuntu, using PlayOnLinux. I got up to the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, and was a bit of the way into the optional level, when I got that Godforsaken Pirate Head telling me the CD was missing. I was planning on buying R3 on GOG, so I went there and got R2 as well. After jumping through several hoops to get it running as well as the original under Wine/PlayOnLinux, I went through the Santuary again, got a bit of the way through the optional level...

And got the Pirate Head. :boon:

Of course, it could be just PlayOnLinux reading the wrong file... I hope...

Yes, I enjoyed The Top of the World a lot too, but if I start adding that one, I'd start adding all the other levels of the game as well. ;)
Menhir Hills is another one of my favourites because of the riding you do on the Shell, something I think is quite memorable about R2, but since the Iron Mountains (which I count as a Sanctuary level because of the Mask) also feature a brilliant Shell ride part, I left that one out.

Make sure your shortcut or program is reading the right file, yes. I had to do a similar thing in my bizarre workaround of getting R2 working on my own PC.

Try playing with it. Maybe it will go away when you finish a level. If you can still see Rayman

Let me guess, you went into the prefix and installed the GOG version, then used the CD to uninstall the original, and after that made a shortcut to the GOG one?
'Cause that's what I did. :)

Oh, no, my solution involves something less... entirely legal.
I have four copies of the game, right? Four. So then my computer decides to not recognise that there is a CD in the CD tray when I play R2, which makes it tell me that I should insert the CD that's already in there. This it does for all four CDs, so, desperate to play that awesome game, I eventually resort to finding a NOCD 'patch'. However, that one installed correctly, the game now still needs a CD to play (wtf patch makers) but since I have four copies right here, I'm more than happy to give it one. So now the game works. However, playing it from the actual executable, or from the one that pops up when I insert my CD and my PC explores the CD's contents, doesn't! So then I create a new shortcut to the new executable and play it from there. It was a bit of a trial-and-error and 'eh? what?' kind of experience, but the game works, so I'm happy.

Oh, and prior to the resorting to the patch, I already tried un- and reinstalling several times, as well as various other things like trying to get my PC to recognise autoplay again, which it still doesn't (and that may be the root of this whole problem, but it is one I will never solve, I have come to accept).

Rant over, if a rant you can call it.

Ah. Well, at least my post may help others.

Getting back to the favourite-level discussion, I have changed to the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava. It's a beautiful environment and it has the same kind of music as Whale Bay. Even so, I did happen to forget a cage on this playthrough, preventing me from 100%-ing unless I go back through... :mefiant:

I find the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava has some of the best music in the game. Also, it took me quite a while back in the day to find the two sneaky Lums [hovering on the climable grate right outside the stone door in the last section of the level with the wall traps that try to push you into the lava]. They were very well-hidden, even if the familiar jingly buzz gave them away.

Yeah. When I first became obsessed with 100%-ing (or 99.9%-ing as I didn't know there was a 1000th lum) the game, I was constantly coming up with ideas for where lums might be hiding, even in school. I happened to get very good at predicting the locations of Super Yellow Lums, if I remember right...

I'll probably always remember how relieved I was to find the Super Yellow Lum in Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava when you get to that point [where there's that pillar suspended from the ceiling with an exposed diagonal face that you're supposed to shoot to clear a cork door that's embedded in the floor. I found the Lum at the back of the pillar near the ceiling] and I can distinctly remember thinking what a sneaky place that was to hide something. It's fun if you hide stuff like that for your gamers to find when you're a dev. I'll have a lot of fun designing places to hide stuff when I finally get around to making my game.

Ah, that Super Yellow Lum, I remember how stressed out I was from constantly missing it, I only managed to find it after my fifth go on my first runthrough of the PC version. But it's so satisfying to find these sneaky items, and I'm glad developers do give us these little secrets to find.

It was an "Aha!" moment (in school ) when I realised that that must be there. Sure enough, I went home, started it up, and there it was!

We surely miss those moments, contrary to easy-to-find "secret" rooms in RO. :P

May I post this just because of how much it reminded me of The Precipice? It's a halloween themed jump race in Guild Wars 2.

I can't get my CD to work in Windows 7 x64. All the actual solution I can find is buying the gog.com version, but when I have a legally purchased copy I'd prefer not having to buy another one. I know it's only 6€, yeah. I tried to get gog-com version for free but I couldn't find it. Is there a way to make my CD way or get the GOG version for free?

Ask for me. I already bought R2 and I can grant you access to my account (I only have R2 and R3 on it). Just PM ;).

Going off-topic, but there currently is a 50% offer on Rayman 2, Rayman 3 and Rayman Forever on GoG, should anyone wish to purchase these games, now is a good time!

Erm, that is exactly what Haruka means by her sentence, that she likes the more indepth and "clever" secrets of R2 & R3, and not the simplistic, obvious ones from RO.
So you're in agreement.
