Interesting. This will make the hunt for secrets a lot more fun, because you can't necessarily see everything right from the start.

Bzzit wrote:Even though I still wish they went with the origins story they originally set out for, as a long time fan I was actually quite satisfied with origins. The only major thing I was let down by was the unsatisfying boss battles, when I saw glimpses of rayman 1 enemies remastered in the game I expected to see the likes of Mr Stone and Moskito return but alas we were up against forgettable bosses that lasted like 5 seconds. Though in Hindsight I guess they kinda suited the pacing of the game, I miss the tension, length and challenge of the Mister brigade.I also prefer the cast being somewhat serious with a hint of humor not the other way round, when they make the transition to 3D again hopefully the characters will resemble their personas in rayman 2 but keep some humor here and there.
That change was a real let down for me! When they scrapped the idea of putting the game before Rayman 1 the entire game was a lost cause because now it had no reason to be in 2D, there was no need for the childish rayman to exist with that clingy girlfriend smile (shivers), and the origins of every character would've been explained. But if i was never aware of these details then i wouldn't have anything to compare it to and it may have been the best game ever!

Well yeah, but he's also waiting for Sony and Microsoft to get with the program.

if according to microsoft and sony next generation means just improved graphics, I'm gonna stab myself on the throat... seriously. The simple improvement of graphics won't help the videogame industry at all.... I mean... is it necessary to have better graphics than this...

...and that this is the only new feature about the console?

In my opinion, the competitors of Wii U should focus more on memory, online features and innovative ways to please costumers. I'm not forcing them into gimmicks like a gamepad or motion controllers, but at least something different that makes you want the console because it's awesome, not because the one you already have is getting old... that's Apple's logic...

No no no, I give up trying to explain, the main point is Ancel is developing the UbiArt engine for 3D games and that's what's keeping BG&E 2 on hold. Besides I don't give a crap how great a game looks, all I care is that the game is fun, enjoyable, and easy to control.

Sony is coming with these glasses to make the experience feel "Virtual Reality". I'ts basically nothing more than the screen expanding in front of your eyes, which I imagine would cause a headache quickly.

Very good. In my case though, my Xbox is getting so old, that it stops shutting down normally (have to press the power button three times) and loads at the insane speed of 1% per minute on a regular map in Halo Reach, for example. Now I won't be looking for a new console until it's really given up on me, but there's limits to how old something can get nowadays. Contrastingly, my PS1 from god-knows-what-era is still fine and plays like it would have ten years ago. Now how does this reflect on modern-day standards when it comes to durability? :tssk:

You own an Xbox?

And a PS1, wow. I wouldn't mind having a PS1 for my collection, or to bring it in travels. :P

I had an old Xbox - I gave it to my cousins though, but they don't seem to do anything with it, which saddens me, since there's a couple of excellent games I have that Microsoft neglected to port over to (i.e. make compatible for, not remake) the 360, making me unable to play them. I have two PS1s actually, so one of them's more of a backup in case the other one dies. Wanna have it? ;)

I was a young 'un when I had my PS1, a shame too, if I had the sense to look after things as well as I do now, I may still have had it.
Luckily, while my PS3 isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games, it still can play PS1 games, so not a total loss.

If that was serious I wouldn't mind having a PS1 from you. :mryellow:

To be honest I would only play Xbox just to play the Oddworld games released for there.

I'd be happy to give it to you - only bit of a problem there is that I live in Holland and you, well, you do not. :P

It would be difficult for hand delivering indeed. Kinda reminds me that my Croc 2 for PS1 has got compactibility issues in my PS2. To avoid these I would need a PS1.

Because of RL being a Wii U exclusive I kinda wonder if Rayman is gonna be a Nintendo guy from now on and will appear in SSB titles and maybe crossovers with Mario... Or Nintendo is trying to get the rights to Banjo Kazooie I heard so a cross between Banjo and Rayman would be cool for one game haha

I have an old PS1 slim (PSOne) that I picked up at a yardsale for one dollar, it works wonderfully, with the exception of when you turn it on and twist or twirl the AC adapter cord it powers off.

Yes, absolutely. We must strive to advance ourselves in all areas. Games are a visual medium which will require many incremental improvements before it reaches its ultimate state; your disregard for this reality is disturbing. Take off the Nintendo-tinted spectacles for a moment. The screenshots you posted show games that are intended to be photorealistic; while a sustantial improvement over the previous generation, they are clearly distinguishable from reality. This is an artistic failure.
segiomonty wrote:...and that this is the only new feature about the console?
No, absolutely not. Graphical upgrades are extremely important to the gaming medium, but they are only one component; we must demand more.

I think the focus of next generation games should be less about improving the visuals and more about fixing current gen issues, such as the reduction of loading times. The time it takes for some modern games to load is ridiculous.

Why? The Xbox360 and PS3 have very, very outdated graphics at this point. Imagine if the PS2 had lasted until 2009 and it were 2008 right now. That kind of outdated.

Exactly. That's an excellent example. I'm not against graphic upgrades at all, but they're becoming an annoyance in game development. Every generation, videogames become harder and harder to make just for the visuals, and that doesn't even ensure a great videogame experience. I can't even imagine someone saying "This game sucks. It's graphics are so PS3". If only they fixed some issues like communication, browsers, online gameplay and, why not, loading screens, then I'm completely fine with the newest generation.
