It looks like a 3D remake of one of my favourite Sonic games of all time. It's even got the bonus levels incorporated when he goes on that waterslide. Nice effort, but it looks a bit too hectic and quick-paced to really be able to tell what's going on. I know what'll come next simply because I know the level by heart (I've had the game since forever), but I can see how this could easily confuse a lot of other people.

Re: Rayman Origins
I was just about to reply with "What the hell were they thinking turning Rayman into a ball like that?!" when I read that it said 'mod'.

Saw this mod before and I thought it was awesome, if I could I would have the PC version of Sonic Gens but I don't think my laptop's up to bat for it. @_@

Re: Rayman Origins
Most certainly not! It's definitely a remake of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The music is identical, all 2D sections are identical and I know this because I've played it myself when I was little and I've played it again some time ago. I have the cartridge and game console right here. I'd be happy to verify if you still don't believe me.sergiomonty wrote:Eh... it's Sonic Generations, pal ñ__ñ'
Even better: I found someone else who has footage of the levels in question.
From 3:08 onwards is the Chemical Plant zone. If you view the whole two levels from that act (that's up until 8:22), you will see many similarities. Generations merged certain aspects of the levels together. There's also two more levels in this setting that follow later on in the game, and I recognised some more areas in Generations from them. Of course Generations welded together some of the high-paced quick action scenes and alternated the 2D sections with the 3D things and they did it most creatively - I enjoyed watching the footage - but don't go saying that the levels aren't the same, because they simply are.

Re: Rayman Origins
For comparisons sake, here's Generations' Chemical Plant.
And here's the video Sergio gave (skip to 7:40):
They take different paths, but they seem to be the same level.

Re: Rayman Origins
Have you even played Sonic Generations Shroob? It's supposed to be a landmark game to mark the 20th anniversary of Sonic and the levels in it were chosen by fans in an official poll hence why Chemical Plant is one of them. Ever since it was released on PC it became open to hacking, mainly people porting levels from other Sonic games (it runs on the Unleashed engine iirc) and so forth.

Re: Rayman Origins
Now that makes sense. It's nice of them to include levels from older games, but the only problem I was having with sergio in the first place is that his post seemed to imply, at least to me, that the levels were original and were not at all a 'remake of my favourite Sonic game', which one of them clearly is.Cairnie wrote:Have you even played Sonic Generations Shroob? [[EDIT: And no, Carinie, I haven't. But what does that matter? The argument, for me at least, was about whether or not the levels were original. But I think we're all running around in circles misunderstanding each other.]]
See, when I posted with

which led me to believe that he thought that I had no clue of what I was talking about. It's probably because of the smiley. Anyway, it looks like a fun game, but like I said, it's too fast-paced to really see what's happening.sergiomonty wrote:Eh... it's Sonic Generations, pal ñ__ñ'
And back to what originally started this: the Rayman mod looks pretty nice. The only thing that doesn't make sense is his powers, but you can't just go and change the whole mechanics of the game now.
Yes, that's another characteristic of the Chemical Plant level (and the Sonic 2 game as a whole); there's multiple ways to get to places. I really liked this aspect of the game and of other games of that era, even though it could lead to confusing situations.Master4lyf1 wrote:They take different paths, but they seem to be the same level.

Re: Rayman Origins
Indeed, alternative pathways make linear games much more interesting, Sonic 3's alternative pathways were very interesting to traverse.
As for the gameplay style, it was introduced in Unleashed, and has carried forward since.

I think Zero Punctuation is the most retarded reviewer ever. Bashing good games to get attention and shit. I know most of his reviews are a joke, but I don't get that joke... I never get what's so funny about his reviews... is it because he talks fast? because that doesn't work with me... Actually, I think his reviews are completely annoying, he just loves to point out the most minimal details and exaggerate it like it was the end of the world. Just.. ugh.. no.
(And yes, we're talking about the guy who bashed EVERY SINGLE GAME HE REVIEWED except for Rayman Origins)

Re: Rayman Origins
Has anyone in North America got their hands on the 3DS version yet? They keep switching the dates. Today my EB Games told me December 4th is the new date they've been given.
Re: Rayman Origins
Yes, I have, it was released on November 6th. You can find a copy at most Gamestop and Walmart stores, and can buy it on Amazon.com here:http://www.amazon.com/Rayman-Origins-ni ... rigins+3DS
Re: Rayman Origins
The 3DS game was rated a small 6.5 by [N]Gamer, while the console version received a 9.5 and came at #8 on their Top 40 Wii Games.

I'm I the only one who thinks that this would fit perfectly to Mystical Pique?
Be patient to listen to the end.

Finally found the 3DS version at Best Buy. Picked it up and went to pay for it. Then bam! A messaged popped up on their screen. "Cannot sell until Dec 4 2012.
