Nice.

I'm curious as to how you'll make a level editor that can be use on consoles, but I'm sure that you can manage.
Rayman Arena/M2 does sound like a pretty awesome idea, but blimey, so much stuff on top of your main game.

A level editor for consoles is actually quite simple, as it would work the same way it would on PC. You fly around in a first-person view, placing things as you orbit around them. Anyone familiar with Halo's Forge mode should get the gist right away. The kind of objects you would place though would obviously be quite different, as Rayman is a very naturalistic sort of game.

As for 'Arena 2,' don't worry, it isn't as much work as it sounds. I have all the characters, the physics, dynamics and whatnot, all that would need to be done is to work out a multiplayer system and create some maps.

Good job this strafing move...especially the way you made all of his limbs not doing a symetric movement : he really looks like moving to the right.

Maybe you could do the same for his hair (just a bit). The rest is fine :up:

Out of curiosity... can we make "arena 2 maps" (Racing tracks and such.) In the level editor?

Adsolution wrote:You see, I could just hand over the CE3 sandbox and all open, moddable files, but I've most likely decided against this just because of what the game is - also, so you can use the same PC level editor on consoles and so on. The standard CE3 tools are obviously only available on PC, whereas my level-editor would be in-engine, allowing for it to be on all platforms, customised exactly how I want it. It won't let you do every little thing right down to designing cutscenes and other game dev shit like the CE3 tools provide, but it would provide you with the ability to make your own multiplayer/singleplayer maps that you can share online. Going on with that:

I'm also planning on incorporating multiplayer. I may have mentioned this before, but I've confirmed a "Rayman Arena 2" to be included as a multiplayer mode. You know what'll be extremely fun? Replicating Rayman's theme. :mrgreen:
T'would appear so, BTM.

Ah multiplayer! I had thought of a lot of MP aspects for my own game before, but it's still a big maybe regarding the actual execution of it. It'd be awesome to build in a MP function and host some tournaments, maybe, but the coding required for what I had in mind would be insane to include in an already complicated game. However, I would love to do it anyway. Part of the MP feature would actually be the Level Editor (which has a better name that I can't recall right now) and you would be able to put in cutscenes with dialogue and lighting and sound effects and music and such (polysyndetic sentence right there). You could make a so-called 'House World' and people could visit it, walk around, explore and complete challenges and puzzles that you, as the architect, had designed for them. I, myself, would put in a lot of MP gamemodes, and on the subject of an Rayman Arena-like MP style, I'd put in three types of racing: the normal race, like the Walk of Power, the Sliding Race, which is basically a hectic course like the Sanctuary of Water and Ice or the Prison Ship, and the Shell Race, which would be an even more hectic course where everyone rides Walking Shells and is walking up the walls almost all the time.

Just a thought from your end, Ad, do you think it's possible to design (parts of) the game first and add in a working Level Editor later, or would you have to build the game up from scratch using your self-built Editor? The former would be more convenient as I get accustomed to the software and monstrous task of it all (do not be mistaken - I do realise what kind of project something like this is), but the latter sounds more logical and truthful.

PS
Do I sound like a copycat to you? I hope not! You must realise that all of this has been noted down on pages and pages of thought-proces long before the writing of this, but I realise that we share a lot of similar thoughts. You're just better at getting them into reality, at this time. ;)

The style feels like a much more "modernized" (I suppose you could say) version of the Rayman Arena strafe, I'm sure that's what you were going for! :)

@Sae:
Indeed, notice how the animation looks like a billowing wave outward? That was one of my main focuses. But the hair I think is fine, because it's too flexible to follow the same wave pattern, and would end up flopping more symmetrically.

@Rayfist:
Thanks! That's exactly what I was going for indeed. :)

@Shroob:
I'll most likely be designing them with the first method...

You know what bothers me though? Creating race courses might be difficult with this level editor. Or maybe not, we'll see.

Wow, I didn't check this project since a while but damn, it evolved so much! Good job, I'm sure this fan-game is going to be excellent. :D Loved the last video on your youtube account! Keep it up!
...I love the soundtrack. X3

That strafing animation is quite nice, by the way. :)

I agree with that, it looks very decent in my eyes. And yeah, the Soundtrack sometimes gives me a real shiver. A great thing would be to hear a remix version of the Mr. Dark Battle-song. The original was just to short and in my opinion it deserves some more epicness. :fou:

Other great songs from the original game like the Moskito 2 Battle, Skops Battle and... ah well, there just too many epic songs to count were also some kind of short. But yeah, quality get's over the quantity. :winkgrin:

Adsolution, how far are the track remakes coming along? I don't mean to sound impatient if that's what I sound like. I'm just looking forward to the next soundtrack part.

Many of these most definitely are happening.

I'm workin' on it, I'll probably guess the next part to be up within... two weeks or so, very roughly?

New Year's/Christmas gift? :mryellow:

OH! I just thought of something: how about adding special holiday easter eggs into the game. Say that it's near Christmas time (from 20-31 Dec). The game could have a specific area (such as the hub world) snowed over and a special Christmassy track could be playing in the background. Maybe you could have scary things such as Zombie Chicken flying around in the hub world on Halloween.
