Re: Rayman Legends
It seems to me like they want to release all versions at the same time in order to make as much profit as possible right from the start, as well as to make sure that the game stays 'relevant' in the eyes of PS3/X360 owners, so that nobody loses interest. At least it's the most logical explanation I can think of, although there's no doubt that it's still risky as fuck, and I really hope it won't end up doing more damage than good.
In any case, I'm definitely gonna buy the shit out of it, no reason not to do it now!

I agree. I think it will be a tough month too, because New N Tasty will be released around September too. Damn.

Well... this is my opportunity to buy pikmin 3, the wonderful 101 and luigi's mansion 2. I saved a lot of money... but I guess I'll get Rayman Legends for my birthday in november.

The bratty little child in my head is pissed off because it's been delayed...
I'm actually glad though, I can wait till later to get a Wii U now, and my PS3 is broken anyway. Hopefully they take the time to improve on a few aspects other than just porting it, like getting rid of Barbara for instance.

Re: Rayman Legends
Just think of it this way. Since it's going to be delayed it allows Ubisoft to polish the crap out of it until until it's final release date.
I agree that it's annoying as hell for WiiU owners, and especially those that purchased the console JUST for this game. But think of how good the final game will be in the end.

Re: Rayman Legends
One doesn't simply purchase a console just for one game... one gets a console for it's potential. That's why I didn't buy an Xbox 360 just for Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts...
As for me... Xbox 360 is a boring console (again... for me).

I am not a fan of XBox or Micro$oft, though I bought a 360 just for Nuts & Bolts. The 360 now collects dust as the game disk broke, Nuts & Bolts was a shoddy Banjo game, but a decent game in and of itself. I do not regret my decision, and am very glad I got the 360 that now sits in a box.
I was also going to get a Wii U for Legends, and even with this news I'll still get one eventually, for the next Zelda and Smash obviously.
I also got a 3DS just for Luigi's Mansion 2, just sayin'.
Re: Rayman Legends
I'm not going to make the mistake of getting the Wii U just for a Rayman game as I did with RRR for the original Wii. I found I spent maybe a week total playing any games I owned released on the Wii, and it's lucky my parents were so fond of all the party games that came out on the console or it would have either been sold or stuck on a shelf collecting dust. When the Wii U starts to come out with more titles, I'll probably grab it, and now with Legends being delayed I might be able to pick that up too around the same time I grab the Wii U. There's a possibility I'll get the PS3 version as well, but being a game that was originally intended to be Wii U exclusive, it will probably play best on that console.
Re: Rayman Legends
And the saddening part about this all, is that a lot of people are cancelling their pre-orders on 'Legends. I guess people just don't have the same patience as they did over a decade ago, games would constantly be cancelled, delayed, and completely evolve into something very different. Like Conker: Twelve Tales, it was one of the first announced N64 games and was delayed several times, never heard from for over a year, the finally released in early 2001 in an almost unreconizilbe form.Or Malice on PS1, it was delayed, cancelled, brought to another console, delayed, cancelled again, and released in 2004 as mediocre shovelware. Rayman fans waited eight years for a true fourth Rayman title. Sheesh!

Re: Rayman Legends
Actually... out of this forum, there are lots of people talking about this polemic situation right now. EVERYONE IS MAD. Every popular Nintendo-news-based website takes Legends' situation as their recent hot topic. This news had a big impact in the audience, really. Some people are even trying to boycott Ubisoft...
People on Miiverse are making a revolution about Rayman Legends, just like they did some weeks ago with Earthbound... but this time more violently:
The bash was so big that even one of the developers had to answer back, revealing that this decision wasn't taken by the ubiart team, but Ubisoft's biggest representatives:
They just decided to make it multiplatform because 360/ps3 users were complaining about it... now they made it multiplatform, but made the stupid decision to delay it for 6 months, now nintendo users hate it so much they want to boycott it. Well played ubisoft.

And yes, for those who were asking... it was confirmed: the reason of the delay is not to improve the game... it's just because of the ports:Rayman Legends dev not happy with delay, blasts Ubisoft for long hours, says don't pick on the game
I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decision taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game.
If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.
For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wifes, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news.
Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that shitty. - Xavier Poix
You know? Although it is a place basically designed for opinions and drawings, Miiverse has potential to be a place for the fans to be heard by actual developers... I will probably join the group and protest along with them. I accept that they port it to other consoles, and I would have accepted the delay if they decided that a long time ago... but they decided to say that 3 weeks before the release of the game on Wii U, so I'm gonna join the group... this is fucking unfair for Wii U owners.Ubisoft says multiplatform launch is the only reason behind Rayman Legends' delay
"There are no issues with the game development. All of the information was in the press release, the only reason for the delay is to release on multiple platforms. We usually release all of our platforms simultaneously (aside from PC). We've made special exception sometimes in the past but it's definitely just on a case by case basis and not our standard practice. In this case, Ubisoft recently decided they wanted to release the game on multiple platforms so the decision was made to launch them all at the same time rather than separately. I know it's not an elaborate, 'convincing' answer, but it's the simple truth." - Ubisoft rep

Re: Rayman Legends
This was an absolutely horrible move on Ubisoft's part, and I really hope they sort their shit ASAP because they've already fucked us over once with RRR (though if I'm remembering right, that was a combined fault of Ubisoft and the dev team at the time) it would be horrible for them to fuck us over again. I'm glad there is such an uproar among Nintendo fans and Rayman fans alike, because with how vocal everyone is being it's very likely Ubisoft will "listen to the fans" again and release the Wii U version and ports separately, and save Legends from competing with the other large titles coming out later this year.
The developers usually tend to hear a good amount from their fanbases assuming they're not a brand new independent developer that's getting ready to release their first game. The problem almost always lies in the publishers. They're a lot more business oriented, and if you've been paying attention to the game industry in the past couple of years, as well as plans for the future of console gaming, you'll realize that they are the definition of stupid and don't even know how their own god damn industry works. There seems to be some kind of disconnect there that will hopefully be resolved somewhere down the line.sergiomonty wrote:Although it is a place basically designed for opinions and drawings, Miiverse has potential to be a place for the fans to be heard by actual developers...

Re: Rayman Legends
Man, they really think Rayman is dead because of a delay?
Re: Rayman Legends
Lol this bawlfest...
Seriously though. Some people have waited six years for a game to release, myself included. Aside that some people have actually bought a Wii-U only for RL (Really, sorry guys that sucks hard, I feel for you), I don't see how the delay is such a big deal.
That being said I think I'm gonna keep some distance from this fanbase for a while until the panic settles down. (Don't worry Ad, will still be helping around with ROTD)

Re: Rayman Legends
Oddly enough, I'm more pissed off that Ubisoft would take such a risk than the fact that we won't be getting the game until later. I'm still a little bit sour after hearing that the next Xbox and Playstation consoles might make it so you need an activation code for a physical game, making used games almost obsolete, and the next generation Xbox might require internet in order to play any games on the console at all. Playstation doing this is just a rumor right now, but I can definitely believe this idea was pitched for Xbox. It seems like something Microsoft would do. I just don't understand how anyone could think these are good ideas. They're horrible from all points of view, especially from a business perspective. You won't make money from doing this, you're practically guaranteed to lose it! And then they'll sit there and wonder why they aren't making any profit and start pulling projects because they don't think people will spend money on it.
If anything, it makes me want to go out and get a business degree just so I can say NO to inefficient shit like this and actually have people in power hear my voice without having thousands of others follow in suit thanks to a nifty piece of paper.

Re: Rayman Legends
A delay isn't all that bad. It sucks for people who bought the console in anticipation, but you can always try out other games for it now; you might as well, since you now have a console with no games for it.
I waited six months for Galactic Adventures (Spore expansion pack) when I got news of it and near the end it got delayed for a month. I was a bit angry, but learnt to have patience and wait it out. Near the end of that month it got delayed again, except now for six months! I was a bit younger then, so I was quite furious. But again - patience. And then it got delayed again. Eventually, it came out more than a year after its intended release date, but as soon as that package hit the floor of my house (I had it pre-ordered), I rushed down and enjoyed the shit out of it. It had become better for all the time I had waited for it, and so I'm happy they got the chance to work on it some more.
The flipside is a game like Duke Nukem Forever, which took about 12 years to be released, in not at all the same state as you'd expect it to be after 12 years of development. That's the problem - nothing can live up to a whole decade of anticipation - and I hope Legends won't fall down a similar hole.
But indeed, for the devs this is a real nightmare. They've been stressing it out and spending time away from home, only to learn it was all for naught. Now they've got another half a year to work on it at a steady pace, so I guess that's something, but if there's someone that should be pissed, it's not the fans - it's the devs themselves. I hope they'll be able to add some more content this way, if they want to. That'd be a nice bonus.
At least I'll be able to play the game now too and I'm happy for others in a similar position, but I think they might as well have released the game already for Wii U owners, made some adjustments for the other consoles and possibly add content for them, so both versions have their distinct differences, not just it either being Murfy-able or not.
