Re: Rayman Legends
Good to know that I'm going against Occam's razor, maybe it is better that I stop pointing things.
@Shrooblord I had a pretty strange Philosophy teacher in the two years I had the subject: we barely were picking on the book and we were almost watching movies the entire time and doing powerpoints while others prefered to go to Facebook during the projects and she not minding at all. Otherwise I would have been more interested in Philosophy classes. I think Spiral is teaching me more now than in those 2 years.

When Rayman jumps, the gravity of the Glade appears to be smaller than the gravity of Earth blah blah blah Newton's law and blah blah g = 9.81 m/s2 = 32.2 ft/s2 blah blah, because it is a fucking video game. OH MY!

Re: Rayman Legends
It's not a debate... it's just speculations. I know you don't like that, Ad, but with a game delayed and so little info, there's nothing else we can do. Let the imagination flow~Adsolution wrote:I don't find myself enjoying watching fans delve deep into things like this as if the developers always had an answer in mind. That's what worries me... people here take Rayman too seriously, they want everything to be completely canon and with some connection to Earth. At this point, for me every Rayman game is a reboot and nothing is canon, just like Mario. It's just a cool franchise with cool stuff on it. Nuff' said.GNineify wrote:When Rayman jumps, the gravity of the Glade appears to be smaller than the gravity of Earth blah blah blah Newton's law and blah blah g = 9.81 m/s2 = 32.2 ft/s2 blah blah, because it is a fucking video game. EDIT: However, I must accept that I still enjoy making connections and trying to give Rayman a full history... but it's just for fun, not like a real, REAL discussion.
Re: Rayman Legends
Exactly. Since the delay this is the only thing that came up so it is already something to keep this topic alive, since it was desertic for almost a month: there was simply nothing to talk about.sergiomonty wrote:It's not a debate... it's just speculations. I don't want to sound bad for both you two but, is it bad I try to link with Earth? I have a Rayman fanfic that tries to keep things coherent, but I really don't take everything as canon. If I do seem to be taking this seriously, then maybe it is better that I don't say a word from now on.sergiomonty wrote:That's what worries me... people here take Rayman too seriously, they want everything to be completely canon and with some connection to Earth. Re: Rayman Legends
Personally, I don't try to apply real world logic to the Rayverse, but I try to make some sense of it.
I know, I know, it's a video game, why bother? I really don't know the answer to that, but I find that it makes some intriguing discussion.

Re: Rayman Legends
I don't think there's a problem with people shaping and imaginig a series to be larger and more intricate than the source material; whatever improves the experience for and inspires you is good. What I don't understand is why people actually bother to debate this (yes, people are debating, otherwise they wouldn't be responding to eachother), especially over something as puerile as 'sleeping for a hundred years.' Maybe there is nothing to talk about, but that seems to be what's taken up the vast majority of this topic. Just in my ever-so-humble opinion, speculations that couple no merit and in no way whatsoever could be true are a waste of space.sergiomonty wrote:It's not a debate... it's just speculations. Re: Rayman Legends
It's okay, I respect that. In fact, I confess I have some headcanons (including the connection with Earth), but I consider that going too deep and arguing about it so seriously is... well, not cool. It's a videogame, not the Bubbly BibleHaruka wrote: I don't want to sound bad for both you two but, is it bad I try to link with Earth? BTW I saw that you started a little polemic discussion in the U-Play community from Miiverse, that's quite interesting

Anyone besides Ad thinks that we are debating?
Re: Rayman Legends
I simply was honest in saying what I think, and to tell people to not take it badly because I want to play RL as much as them and I also don't agree with the delay strategy.sergiomonty wrote:

I still think it isn't anything bad talking about the detail, at least it is better than the topic being as desertic as Sahara. I was only wondering, not saying "it must be like this or like that", like if I was really taking serious. It would be the same thing as opening a debate about Bégoniax's real age, like if I cared.

Re: Rayman Legends
There's absolutely nothing bad in it. I have like thousands of headcanons myself, which I use to shape up my fan comic. The Rayman franchise hasn't had very detailed explanations, so it's natural that speculation exists.
Re: Rayman Legends
True. That might be just a personal taste, because I like both logic and fiction to blend up together.

Re: Rayman Legends
Lol. You guys are now discussing about discussing about a game that you say should not be taken too seriously
I'd like to have a single, consistent universe in which all Rayman games take place. It's fun to try and connect the different games... but unfortunately in reality UbiSoft doesn't give a damn about continuity or lore in Rayman games and almost every single game brings a complete re-imagining of the Rayman universe...
My favorite game is R2, so I guess I'd like all games to take place somewhere in the R2 Glade of Dreams. And I personally don't try to make connections to Earth...

Thousands? Yeah right... so that fan comic has thousands of storylines then?GNineify wrote:I have like thousands of headcanons myself

I also think in that.
Anyway, since there's nothing else to talk about we just have to wait. Fortunately the online challenges are coming out in the next weeks.

Re: Rayman Legends
Look, we like talking about Rayman, right? That's why we're here. Sometimes someone makes a startling discovery and tries to link two Rayman games together or two series of the franchise (remember that one thing about Cookie from RTAS once thought as being a player 2 for the original Rayman at some point during development?) - sometimes we start a random topic about something vaguely relevant. Like the discussions we have about character changes, the gods of the Glade and other such matters.
None of it really amounts to anything at all; whether we reach the conclusion that an obscure reference in one game is actually a link to another, it doesn't make us 'see the whole picture' more clearly, but it's what we like doing, right? It's what we like talking about.
So why not have a discussion on whether Rayman is 320 or 16 years old? Why not talk about the years of the Glade or what could happen in 100 years' time? Why not make something up to try and get everyone talking or interested or smiling at their screen? I don't see that as a waste of space or time - I see that as a community getting along. I like reading other people's thoughts and try to contribute to the ideas they come up with. That's why I'm here - I like talking with you lovely people.
Or at least that was how I thought of things before. Correct me if I'm wrong. Correct me if this is not in fact, as the name would otherwise suggest, a community of people based around Rayman.

Re: Rayman Legends
You said it all, Shrooblord, this is also why I am in here.
In the meantime I am waiting for the online challenges, I've been drawing Rayman bosses in the Miiverse.

Very passionate speech there, Shroobie, a point well made, and one that I agree with.
Blimey, this delay and scarcity of information...

Is anyone able to like screencap what kind of drawings the Miiverse has, 'cause Wii don't get to see U posts.

Re: Rayman Legends
But that's exactly what doesn't make sense to me. This is a community dedicated to Rayman fans, as well as a great, friendly community in general, but having an actual discussion/debate over something that is ultimately left up to our own fabrications really shouts "this is unproductive and pointless" to me. Sharing our own customised lore is fine and all, but it's when people start looking way too deep into something where there wasn't meant to be any definition in the first place and try to apply their 'findings' to actually 'legit answer' some 'questions' that just turns me off immediately.Shrooblord wrote:Look, we like talking about Rayman, right? Why does Rayman's hair change? Why are none of the locations the same? Why is there no connection between anything? These are questions people ask all the time, and they often bring up actual discussion that people try to make sense of. To me, I think that is one of the most unproductive ways to talk about a series. It's even worse, like mentioned before, when people try to figure out the "developer's intent" and actually base their speculations for the upcoming game based off of said speculations.
