How to begin description of this absurd? Oh well. Basically, it seems like I "won a delegation" to a contest which happens to be happening in Australia (don't click the links, they are there only for Polish users so they know I'm not making stuff up). And... I'm clueless about some things.
First of all, Australia. It's not like I've never been abroad, but some places were definitely wildly different from Poland while some were not. What to expect? Unbendable banknotes? X-ray machines at airports? Sony fanboys? Ham sandwiches being considered highly dangerous to environment? Water bottles costing as much as a 3DS game? If anyone has any experience, or heard anything from somebody actually being there - I mean, when you go to US, in Poland you'll know dozen people who have visited NY, but Australia? Nobody knows anything.
Moreover: my family did a quick check on airport connections, and most of them involve 12 hour stay in Hong Kong, Singapore or something like this. Again, European airports are fairly similar, and we all stem from similar culture, but this things seem to be wildly different, and worst of all nobody around knows anything about them. Moreover, I've never spent twelve hours on an airport, and it takes me hard time to get asleep in the plane, so my brain may be a little disfunctioning when I'll be there, and I have no idea what to do with this. Any advice would be appreciated.
EDIT: bbcode syntax.

I can tell you about Arabian airports if you want
but I don't think you'll be very interested in that because they could be a bit different then Australia.
The only thing I now about them are, that they hate if people bring drinks and foods and something not related to Australia with them

Actually, even some tidbits on Arabian airports would be useful. The probability of us flying through Abu Zabi or Dubai is quite low, but it's still a talk on differences between world airports.

So Arabian Airports. When the plane hits the ground and taxi to its gate. And the doors open the hot air fullfilles the plane. After you left the gateway there are two possible ways: Transit or Exit. On every Airport there will be signs in Araby and English. You probably will take the transit way. Now it will be different on some airports. The Passport Check will you see first or bagagge Ceck you'll see first. In the Baggage Ceck if you have your Laptop with you don't need to put it out like in Eurpe. They don't care so much in that Check. Once you reched the Terminal you'll belong to you'll see some Kinds of Duty Free shops and Restaurants like McDonalds, KFC, Burger King and Jasmies. In all Duty Free shops the prices are more expensive then normal. They maybe have a Water Bottle for 2€. In Dubai they have a huge Terminals with so many shop that you'll need 20 min to get from one End to the other. The Airports isn't that strange and too hot as I here from some people.
I'm going to Bahrain next summer by the way.

O.K., so the architectural differences are minor in case of airports, then.
