Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark
That is beautiful! The comic value of them having to realign some bodily structures combines very well with their overall... er... ohmagerdwtfisthatAAAAAHRUNBITCHRUNAAAAAAAAAAAAH-factor. I love the sounds you've implemented already - very eerie. Especially that bone-snapping crack sound when they realign their arms. Eeewwjeeugh! The animation itself in that sequence is stunning. Their voice is simply horrible - excellent.
They look very nice and the way they chase Rayman looks very 'natural' already. They kind of shake their head disjointedly too, when they chase him, and that works really well. Their texture, especially with the one dead eye, is very good. It really does them justice, what the two of you have done.
I think it'd be perfect if you add some kind of smoke or dust particle as they rise from the ground.
The one thing I dislike about them is the way they disappear into the ground with Rayman. Maybe you could have them spiral into the ground, like Jano does, or maybe they can dig into it or something...? The problem now, is that they simply sink into it like it's a sea, and that doesn't work very well, for me. Maybe you could add some kind of ethereal rippling wave effect so the ground is in fact like a sea when they disappear into it. That'd be pretty neat. Also, I don't know if that was just for the video's sake or if that's a real death animation at the end, but the fade out can start a tad later, so you can properly process what just happened to you... and shiver. I do like, however, how it prepares to grab you and you're still free to roam about - you're doomed to be caught, but it gives you just that split second of hope that you can escape. Maybe you can make this a mechanic - that there's some kind of way you can just escape the clutches of death.
EDIT:
OH! And what would be really beautiful is if they make that incredibly horrible whispering and wailing sound.

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark
Hmm, i got a few questions here:
-Will we be able to do barrel roll to dodge attack like in rayman 3? (Could be seriously awesome)
-How does rayman will separate from Raven without getting on a depression or anything?
-Will you explain how rayman met all these people he supposily "know" in rayman 2?
-Isn't putting Lac-mac is making somesort of paradox since he's an equivalent to Globox in the cartoon?
-Why tings if its based on rayman 2 gameplay?
-Why would rayman go back to place he already just went if it was living hell?
-Will we be able to do barrel roll to dodge attack like in rayman 3? (Could be seriously awesome)

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark
indeed, I haven't added any particle effects yet. Don't worry, there will be some! You're also right about the latter portion, I'll slow the animation down a bit to make it take longer and give you a chance to escape.Shrooblord wrote:The one thing I dislike about them is the way they disappear into the ground with Rayman. If you're referring to Rhook, he's a vulture, and I can't tell you as that would be considered a spoiler.FranckyFox2468 wrote:-How does rayman will separate from Raven without getting on a depression or anything?
Yes.FranckyFox2468 wrote:-Will you explain how rayman met all these people he supposily "know" in rayman 2?
Nope, there's nothing that ever confirmed anything about that.FranckyFox2468 wrote:-Isn't putting Lac-mac is making somesort of paradox since he's an equivalent to Globox in the cartoon?
They're collectibles, just like Rayman 2's yellow lums and Rayman 3's gems.FranckyFox2468 wrote:-Why tings if its based on rayman 2 gameplay?

Can Zombie chickens be considered as physical and not ethereal if they come out from the ground like if they were not ghosts ? Then It would be nice to add some realistic effects like those you used for nettles (in a less important impact, as if Zombies could blow up rocks with their chicken bones huehuehue).
Just a suggestion, maybe you already thought about it. And if I did some mistakes, don't forget to tell me (the TOEIC exam in France is really a bad joke. How could I be B2 and got 875 out of 990

In your use of English? Alright:saerleiya wrote:And if I did some mistakes, don't forget to tell me (the TOEIC exam in France is really a bad joke. How could I be B2 and got 875 out of 990).
It's
"if I made any mistakes (...) could I be B2 when I got 875 (...)"
"(...) be considered physical (...) [come out of the ground / come up from underground] as if they weren't ghosts?"saerleiya wrote:Can Zombie chickens be considered as physical and not ethereal if they come out from the ground like if they were not ghosts ?

I'm really loving the amount of detail you're putting into all the little things, like wildlife, intro animation, aesthetics, Adsolon. You'd make a brilliant l'Art pour l'Art kind of person.

Your mistakes aren't that severe, saerleiya - anyone here can understand you perfectly fine - but since you asked, I pointed out all mistakes I could find.

Hey now he jumps before going back to the underground
. Both creepy and fun.
Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark
's good, though I do agree the whisper sound would only make this even better.

Good! It looks better now.
Maybe you could let Rayman flail his arms about helplessly? I'm not sure if that would look good or not - you'll want to check for yourself first.

He could turn his neck to the Zombie when he appears and have his legs trembling at the same time, hey? Not a good idea?

Ah, a video dedicated to the satisfaction of Shroobie? Nice.
Looking good, though I'd assume that we're not meant to see below ground.

Re: Rayman: Revenge of the Dark
Wow, just wow. I didn't check in here for a while but to see all things developing just gives me a shiver as does the great soundtrack. It's Rayman as it should have been, some funny moments but a serious story with a wonderful dream world. To look at all the details so far is just, well, I can't even put it in words. Awesome? Fantastic? Mindblowing? No, these words can't describe it.
That sounds very very promising. As for me, Dark Rayman is my favorite character so far. I know he isn't even established as a fully developed character yet and the plot or some character details may change up until the full release, but I always had sympathies for the baddies in Rayman, especially Mr. Dark and his fellows. It may be a kind of some additional childish fantasy or to much interpretation, but I always felt some kind of compassion for them. I mean, they are creatures just like the so-called "good" ones and have their very own motives to do what they do (even if they were just presented as the plain bad guys in the Rayman games). They suffer from the things you do and vice versa. They also may suffer from the world around them which leads them to their reactions. I hope that we can see some similarities between Dark Rayman and Rayman, a spark of not-being-evil-because-of-being-evil. Just think about some possible motives: He was created and summoned by Mr. Dark to spread fear, thus he can't understand what happiness is, he has no friends but has to see that Rayman has a whole bunch of them and so on. He may feel as someone who is not welcomed at all in this world since his creation which makes him even more angry, using different approaches to reach his very own goals which leads to a bad outcome for Rayman and his friends. There are many possibilities and chances for him I think and I hope he doesn't die in the end, maybe he just vanishes leaving behind a vacuum of power... (-> Razorbeard)
However you will work it out, I can't wait for the final result and the hopefully epic bossfight in the end as described.
Ah, I also thought about some easter-egg levels behind some insignificantly looking props where you just wouldn't ever recognize a secret behind at the first view, similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVLzXsxRCN8
Maybe a secret road race on those highways seen in the Rayman TV-show against some Teensies or a barrel flight race against some pirates. And those may be only some of the minor spectacular things I think of.
Something that is not easy to find if you don't know about it. It gives the game some, well, let's call it enigmatically character similar to people believing in UFOs in GTA: San Andreas. They never existed but it was a whole lot of fun for people to search for them and created some nice-to-read-theories.
Just what i thought, only better described.Shrooblord wrote:5. Starlight Peak: Raven's Aurora
First impression: melancholy. Raven appears to me, judging by the music, as someone who's had to deal with a lot of hardships, but is still standing firmly on her feet. There's much darkness inside her, but her heart is bright. Something is reaching out, trying to escape - the flutes accomplish this feeling - but it's finding it hard to do so. The music makes her intriguing and majestic, if also someone to empathise with.
Very much so. Raven's story has so much to do with Rayman and the Glade itself, and her story is quite tragic indeed. But in this game, her story isn't presented through much more than a silent metaphor. She isn't just a character in the story for the sake of having another. I think she may be my favourite character that (I've) created for Revenge of the Dark.[/quote]Shrooblord wrote:5. Starlight Peak: Raven's Aurora

That's very close to what I'm currently working out actually! Though, there is one key difference, which I'll keep in my head for the time being.Plejadenwolf wrote:I hope that we can see some similarities between Dark Rayman and Rayman, a spark of not-being-evil-because-of-being-evil.
