Re: Rayman 3
I believe it is a GBA screenshot because it is still the same engine, except when ported to the GBA cartridge it got adapted in graphical level.

Blimey, Robotic Teensie, the services you've performed for this fanbase, first figuring out the secret to Xowar (amongst others), and now this!

This is not from Rayman Advance. Here are some clear aesthetical difference (which I know like the back of my hand, since I've played Rayman Advance so much):Robotic Teensie wrote:I think we can conclude that it is indeed a screenshot from Rayman Advance
Should I add the screenshot to RayWiki?
- The ting counter in Advance does not have sparkles surrounding it, whereas in this screenshot, it does.
- Both the photographer and the board in front of him in are only 1/3 the resolution in Rayman Advance, whereas in this screenshot, while hazy, are clearly at their full resolution.
- The colour pallet is in its full glory in the picture. Again, while it's hazy, if you take a look at Rayman's nose, it is shaded. In Rayman Advance, there are only two colours on the nose.
With that in mind, it seems to be a version of Rayman that we don't have access to. Most likely a beta of some sort.

Re: Rayman 3
Of course the graphism is not the same, but as it was said before, it could happen to be a beta or a simple modification of the picture.
At least I see for the first time the real content of the picture, while I thought it was only Rayman's head.

Re: Rayman 3
I added another point that proves it isn't from Advance, the colour pallet. A GBA wouldn't be able to support the range of the original colour pallet, which is shown in the image above.
Re: Rayman 3
Of course, the colour pallet is much minor. But the screenshot could have been the GBA game before being ported with the GBA graphics and screensize, but it must be for sure a beta screenshot of R1 PC. It reminds me that the cage locations between PC/GBA are pretty much the same.
I only played Rayman Advance once but I might play a second time for a walkthrough.

Re: Rayman 3
Of course, that's a possibility, but if it's that early in the porting, then I don't think we should consider it to actually be Rayman Advance, and it certainly shouldn't go up on the Wiki as such.
Though this is a very interesting find. The strange haziness is probably a filmic effect to make the wall look like more of a monitor, which seems like a pretty Rayman 3-ey thing to do.

Re: Rayman 3
Whoa, you're actually saying I discovered a screenshot of a never before seen beta version? Wow that's more exciting than a simple Rayman Advance screenshot!
Sorry about the previous image, I accidentally set the resizing tool to "smooth", blurring the image.
Here, a better one.

This one preserves the 256px height that it's stored at in Rayman 3 (but with 3:2 aspect ratio)

Adsolution is right: the textures are from the PC version. I'm not sure about the colour palette, the grass seems really bright.
What is that stuff on the stones to the right of the Photographer? Is it moss? In the PC version, those stones are not covered with moss... I don't know what it's like in the GBA version.
I think it's a beta GBA version: it already has the basic stuff (game resolution, health system) figured out but it doesn't yet have custom built textures specifically adapted for the GBA - it still uses the original textures.
This wiki page seems like a good place to put this. I think this is from a Rayman Advance beta... no?

Which isn't entirely applicable here, since it's a port of something already publicly available.Master4lyf1 wrote:Has anyone heard of The Cutting Room Floor?
And I still think that Rayman Advance is a damn fine port at that. It's clearly one that had a lot of time put into it.
Re: Rayman 3
After stumbling upon "models-resource.com" I searched for Rayman to see if there was anything, and there was:

Re: Rayman 3
Oh wow! Good job, Rulez! Can we tell whether it's the actual, official thing, or a really good remake? If it's official, us modellers could finally study a 3D source of Rayman...

Given the site, it's probably a rip.

Re: Rayman 3
I saw that a few years ago. It's probably a rip, as with most of the stuff on that site (e.g. sprites).

I knew about spriters-resource for a long time but only recently have I discovered there's also models, textures etc. on there. The backstory of how I found that out is funnily unrelated.
Recently I have been writing quite a bit more music, and coincidentally have started replaying Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie lately. This, along with Grant Kirkhope (the series' composer) appearing on Game Grumps earlier this week for an hour-long special, made me think "ekh I'll look up to Grant Kirkhope for inspiration again". So I listened to a few of my old-time favourites of his, like the boss themes for Old King Coal, Weldar (both Banjo-Tooie), Gruntilda (Banjo-Kazooie), and of course Mad Jack (Donkey Kong 64). I remembered Mad Jack the least, I suppose his theme was just not as interesting (even if I did enjoy it). So for some reason I looked up Mad Jack on Google graphics, I don't remember why. So one of the images was this:
I knew I recognised the template for that somewhere, but didn't remember where. So curiosity peaked and I clicked on that. Soon enough I started wondering if there's anything Rayman on this, so I searched, and yeah, I found.
