These are lovely! The colour scheme is so fresh and lively, yet per-character and er-envronment, it's almost perfect.
I especially like Jeens.
Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Somehow missed this entire thread till today, great art-style dude, loving the character and level design

Blimey, stepping things up here, aren't you?
I'm sure you have plenty of inspirations, but the ones which are most prominent to me from that world image, is probably Crash & DKC.

One of my favorite levels from that game in thereBzzit wrote:Yeah that volcano island kinda reminds me of this level but if it was in Twisnanity. (Twinsanity was awesome btw)
Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Same here, for me Wrath of cortex had the least memorable levels out of the series, there were some gems though (lel) I enjoyed the oriental themed Coco levels alot for some reason.

ATTENTION!
Here we have the enemies that are a threat to World 1; Totem Vista Village. They come in various shapes and sizes. Some can die in 1 hit but some can take multiple hits, some are even invincible! -Knol Age

Also here's a work in progress animation of Jeens shooting.

Yes it snaps and moves a bit, because I had trouble scaling it, that's why it's big as well.

Looking good, though why is it so big? Not a complaint, just curious.

I love your enemies!
Jeens looks good. If you want to add some blaster motion blur effects, why not check out the sprites of Jazz Jackrabbit 2? They had some really good graphics in there that can show you just how to do a really neat motion blur with graphics alone (as opposed to programming or tools that can make it look artificial).

Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Sure - but you know what I mean; ugly, swipy (think colour gradient) non-sensical motion blur as opposed to nice, smooth transition of air to non-air.
Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Thanks for the suggestions mates. I look into those. Though I really want to announce I'm getting my lazy ass off from this paranoia and going to give some samples of how Elem will sound. I'm pretty certain my nervousness won't get in the way this time. I will work on the voice samples this week end.

Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
So... uh, how's progress?
I'd prolly do music for this thing if A) I had enough time, B) I could pull off the 'wacky' image your game seems to have C) I'm certain this thing's going well and will definitely finish. More stuff for my portfolio, more time I kill... not that that's a good thing, but still.
No guarantees, but I'm definitely interested, yeah. Maybe later in development, when I clear some stuff out. Sound good to ya?
EDIT: Also considering this game is in 2D, we could pull a Rayman Origins graphical engine thing, but on a smaller scale - like, a character is comprised of tons and tons of pieces, and they're moved separately, but classified as 1 object. Those pieces that move individually for each animation, when added up, makes the complete character. It's hard to explain, but look at Rayman's 'sprite' sheet and you'll understand.
And if you think that's just because of his limblessness: Helena Handbasket's 'sprite' sheet (I originally immediately thought of Betilla, but on inspection [hahahano] I found out considering Helena's the (relatively) most decently clothed... yeah.)

Sir, our forumite Droolie has ripped those a long time ago and we probably all know of this animation technique, hell I used to use it for my own animations.CanofNothing wrote: EDIT: Also considering this game is in 2D, we could pull a Rayman Origins graphical engine thing, but on a smaller scale - like, a character is comprised of tons and tons of pieces, and they're moved separately, but classified as 1 object. Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Yeah, I know... But this'd prolly make animation much easier, just sayin'.
Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Perhaps, but it has to be flawless to pull off. Trust me.

Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Indeed. It's very easy to have the body parts floating about and make the animation look either choppy or badly done. Sometimes frame-by-frame is the way to go!

Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Welp, if that's what you guys think (and hopefully Bradandez too), no objections there.
His frame-by-frame animations seem to be pretty cool anyway, so... yeah.

Re: ELEM Game Project (Elem can now Walk!)
Aye, I am just saying from experience. It's terribly easy to fuck up and you just have to experiment and make more 'limbs'/parts and keep trying and it's just monotonous and time-consuming, and while rightfully animation technically should be like that, the results really vary.
