I still have not scored any platinums yet, it seems all I've got so far is all golds, and I think 2 silvers XD

After playing Rayman Legends, I decided to try Rayman 3 again.

Somehow, a game that was entertaining for me suddenly turned into the most annoying game I've ever played. The jokes are so continuous it makes me believe they try too hard to turn Rayman's universe into a sitcom. Sure the gameplay is awesome... but man... After getting used to this incredibly adorable and innocent version of Murfy

Image

I just realized that the entire vision of Michel Ancel's beautiful world was about to be turned into a Conker-ish world of sarcasm and hostility.

Image

The effect wasn't the same with Rayman Origins, because, well, the stupidity and the pervy stuff what still there... but once Rayman Legends brings back the innocence and colorfulness of Rayman 1 and 2... I can't like Rayman 3 anymore. The voice acting, Begoniax, Murfy being called "Murphy" and being a sarcastic fuck, and Globox never shutting the fuck up.

It's like even before the Rabbids, Rayman was taking a terrible direction. Sometimes, I wonder if Michel Ancel did even like the decisions taken for Rayman 3.

Rayman 3 is on my least favourites but I still like it a little more than RO.

About the voice acting, I'm going to ask you a favour and play it in the French version. The pain will atenuate.

By the way, I leveled up to Awesomeness 5. :P

In interviews for BG&E, Michel Ancel was usually asked about his thoughts on Rayman 3, here is a portion from a Gamespy interview from 2003:
GameSpy: How do you feel Rayman 3 turned out? Were you satisfied?

Michel Ancel: That's a political question. [laughs] I think that I would have made it different. When it was released I appreciated the fact that it was fresh, with new characters and things. It's funny because it's not my Rayman, you see. I worked on Rayman 1 and Rayman 2. So it's like another game to me, another character. So I will way ... I would have made it different.

GameSpy: So you think it turned out how it did because...

Michel Ancel: I don't want to be shot! [laughs]

GameSpy: Did the game turn out the way it did because you were devoted to BG&E at the time?

Michel Ancel: I didn't work on Rayman 3, but the team was really passionate about the game, and they did their best. I would say it's not a conventional Rayman, because the team I worked with on Rayman 2 did their best. But it was quite odd because the expectations from the people were very, very odd. I think they did well given all that.

And yes, if I haven't already expressed it enough, Rayman 3 is my least favorite game in the series, slightly more or less than Rayman Origins. Just like RO, it was a great game, just not as a Rayman game.

I remember that interview. It isn't like I hate Rayman 3, but I honestly think it could have been better, but that's just my opinion.

Even with its humour and wackiness, I still think Rayman 3 deserves the Rayman name, and aesthetically, I think it is one of the best looking games in the franchise.
In terms of content, yes, I think it could've been more than what it is.

The game could have been quite a bit better. Almost everything in the game was lacking true substance in some way or another, and nothing really feels all that connected as in the previous games. The gameplay was great, but it just didn't have the same flow or balance as Rayman 2 did. That is just my opinion though.

Rayman 1 also doesn't have a big link with Rayman 2, because of the new characters and missing the previous ones.

3 was way too restrictive if you ask me. It seems like everything was designed around making long chain combos, which meant that you couldn't earn new abilities and take them back to previous levels (unlike the other games), since that could make it too easy. The fences too, those were everywhere, and they always blocked off what could have been interesting paths to other parts of the level. I don't mind linear design, but the way Rayman 3 did it felt clunky and unnatural to me.

I wasn't really stating a connection from game-to-game, but a connection from world-to-world. The worlds in Rayman 2 all feel naturally inter-liked and feel like part of the story. Whereas R3's worlds are varied and shift from one extreme to another like themed-worlds from R1 and RO, Instead of gradually shifting from one environment to another. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but considering R2's universe and scope as opposed to the one used in Rayman 3. It simply doesn't feel natural, and seems almost like the designers just conceived a bunch of different levels and came up with a storyline to link it all together as an afterthought. The environments were also a bit too linear for my tastes as well. Rayman 2 while still being linear, did have the occasional open environment having multiple paths, and while not as extensively as Rayman 1, backtracking still played a key role. R3 was all about in simplest terms: run, fight, score as fast as you can, it was all about trying to make chain-combos as El Dango mentioned.

Rayman 3 I thought was a little too short to be honest, even with the addition of the scoring system. I think the game had some freaking breath taking environments though- take a look at the last section of Land of the Livid Dead, freaking beautiful. Though I agree with most here, I don't think it can match up with Rayman 2 or 1.

Though I got to say Sergio... your thoughts on it are a bit dark, seriously...

I really love Rayman 3, probably to blame a lot on nostalgia. Back then I sucked at Rayman 1 & 2 and never came past the first three levels or so (I remember one time I made it past Allergo Presto and forgot to save afterwards. That was a dreadful moment. :P), while Rayman 3 allowed me to fully beat the game. I'll admit Rayman 2 is with no doubt the superior and Rayman 3 is probably the worst in the series, but I myself don't consider it worse then the others. I've given up on trying to choose a favourite one, I love all of them, perhaps Origins a slight bit less but again that's just me being nostalgic, cause Origins is bloody brilliant.

Well... maybe. I just didn't like the weird take on Murfy (yes, I'm not calling him Murphy anymore) or the rest of the character. I would say that Rayman 3 isn't canon, but when I think about it, I just realize that nothing relevant happened in that game.

What do you mean by "relevant?" Relevant to what?

I loved Murfy in Rayman 3 actually, he's a much more enjoyable character to me when he has character, as opposed to him appearing as a thought bubble.

Thank you.

It's disappointing Murfy didn't appear more in the game actually.

Well, I guess it's matter of tastes, I guess. His tasteless sense of humour never got into me.

I kind of got bored of the demo? I mean, it's getting repetitive to me.

And yeah, Rayman 3's humour is out of place in Rayman's universe in my opinion. I think Rayman should always be beautiful and mainly serious, but maybe with a little touch of humour here and there. And definitely not pervy and sarcastic humour.

It was pervy for the teenagers and more grown up audience, since kids wouldn't capture the second conotation of the quotes.
