Co-Operative gameplay, only.

It is more helpful in the Moskito levels but otherwise, I think it gets chaotic in the remaining situations if you play with 3 or 4.

Rayman Origins is the type of game that you only enjoy with a friend if none of you have tried it before, both of you must try it for the first time together. If you don't... well, the co-op is bland. It's fun to slap each other, but when you know all of the secrets... there's just no point.

Maybe RO Lums give people happiness? Although energy would make more sense, since they are sleepy until they change color.

I have to strongly disagree. I'm a 'veteran' Origins player and every time I play with friends, the game is the same load of fun it was the first time through. Especially when Marklar and I try to do the Land of the Livid Dead together, things get ... interesting... shall we say.
And three to four players is incredibly managable, but it all depends on how quick your frustration-o-metre runs out. Mine has a cap as high as the Mount Everest. I can imagine other people getting annoyed sooner.
Rulez wrote:For fuck's sake, no one ever said there's only 1000 Yellow Lums, it's just that the Heart of the fucking World got divided into a 1000 of those, and they probably aren't even related to the ones in Origins.
An incredibly interesting point of view I will certainly use to my advantage; who's to say that the Heart of the World must always break into 1000 Lums when it is destroyed? Useful for own good, this is. [/Yoda]

Well, Shroob, that's matter of tastes. For me, replaying a level with a friend is... just okay. Replaying a Moskito level is god awful.

Actually, the motivation lies on the Tricky Treasure levels and the Land of the Livid Dead.

I don't enjoy Rayman Origins' co-op unless the other player is kinda skilled. For example I get bored if I play with my mother, because she's not very good at videogames.

Of course it is - but then you guys here have known me long enough to know I almost always speak only from within my own frame of reference.
Do I need to preface each statement I make with the words "In my opinion" or "I (personally) think that"? Of course not! :P

And then that's interesting because I usually enjoy playing with people that are unskilled, to get them to become skilled (to that effect I lower my own grade of playing until they get better and better) - but I enjoy playing against matched people far more.

This conversation makes me want to have an RPC lobby in which we all face off each other in various Rayman games... that would be great fun.

I love guiding unskilled players when playing Rayman Origins, or well, at least as long as they enjoy being unskilled :mryellow:

I played the demo. Very hideous port.
If you're going with a portable version, please go for the Vita version.

Terrible, just plain terrible. The great gameplay and extremely responsive controls are still there, but everything else vital to the game, just simply isn't. The crisp visuals and lush backgrounds have now become a pixelated blur and quite a few of the character a models have been distorted in some way or another. In the end, all the visuals look like they were ran through MSpiant and edited in Photoshop to remove rough edges, it just all looks poorly made. The same goes for the audio, it has been horribly compressed like low-bitrate MP3 files and makes the speakers pop and crackle when set to full volume. Surprisingly though, the cutscenes look surprisingly good, with balanced audio-level and crisp picture, making them the only thing in the game that was properly converted. As to be expected, the framerate has been butchered in half to 30 FPS as opposed to 60 and for the most part keeps it solid with a slight drop in some of the Tricky Treasure stages. You might as well not even touch the 3D depth-slider, because there is almost little to no noticeable 3D effects to be found in the game, it almost looks like as if your viewing the game from a distance, with only one to two layers of 3D used in the whole game. Not to mention at the end of The Land of The Livid Dead, when then black screen outro plays with the viewhole centering on Fe De La Mort is distorted and painful to the eyes when viewing in 3D. Plus, The level "Get Away!" has also been removed entirely from the game, and there's still a lot more to complain about. With horrible compression, missing enemies, simplified level design, and missing content, Rayman Origins on 3DS simply isn't worth your time or money, unless you are completely desperate to play the game or to have it on the go. The fanbase can thank me for the favor of wasting $30 USD on this god-awful port and telling them how truly horrid it is. The end result is most likely due to two factors: The capabilities of the hardware and the willingness of the developer, and I think we all know how much effort Ubisoft Casablanca puts into their work. This port is a disgrace to the Rayman brand, The Ubisoft Montpellier team, and Michel Ancel's name. If you must, pick it up when it's in the bargain bin for $10, or just do yourself a kindness and buy the Vita version.

Final Score: 5.5/10

I haven't the 3DS game but it surely was a disappointment to play the demo version.

I saw the RO 3DS for about 17€ (sending to Portugal included) on ebay, factory sealed. I might consider to get it one day. My 3DS has been catching dust.

If it is as terrible as you described, why did you give it a 6.5/10. That's a fairly decent score for games, reduce it to 4, if it is "Plain terrible" and we "should stay away from it at all costs."

Sorry if I seem to be like a jerk.

I might get the PS vita version for Rayman Origins, seems good.

The Vita version is said to be the best one, the most complete version.

The reason why I give it a 6.5, is because it is still very playable and semi-enjoyable, it isn't completely broken. It is a bad port, but not an awful one, I was perhaps being a bit too harsh in remarks. The end result is still very disappointing notheless. I edited the review slightly.

If it's any worse than Rayman DS was, then surely you can mercilessly give it a 3.5. Geebus, my thumbs after playing that game...

That is the difference though, Rayman DS IS NEARLY UNPLAYABLE!!! On the other hand, Rayman Origins on 3DS is still playable, but looks god-awful. On a second thought, just having played a bit of the game again, I change my score to a 5.5!

Rayman DS is playable, but a bit painful if you are playing in an original DS and not a Lite/DSi/DSiXL model. The graphism is the worst thing, the controls go next.

It probably helps a lot more if you're left-handed. Seriously, is there no-one in that team who thought of the idea that anyone would even USE the stylus to walk? If so, WHY did they make the ABXY buttons do stuff when you use THAT option, and not change those key bindings over to the plus-pad, like Mario 64 DS did excellently?
