Rayman's voice actor
I have something I wanted to point out regarding information on the credits for Rayman's voice actor. I noticed on the credits list for Rayman Origins it states Rayman was voice by Douglas Rand. I'm not sure who manages that page and other pages relating to it, but I wanted to let you know that it was never Douglas Rand that voiced Rayman, that it has always been David Gasman (from Rayman 2 and onward, obviously). IMBD credits him as such, though for reasons unknown David Gasman was never credited for the role in the game's end credits. I myself did a comparison of Gasman's past and present roles as Rayman and it is most definitely him, not Douglas Rand. Gasman also voices Rayman in Rayman Legends. The reason I'm pointing all this out is because I'm concerned about misinformation and would like to see it corrected if possible.
Re: Rayman's voice actor
The problem is that none of the known Rayman sounds that David Gasman recorded before are heard in Rayman Origins, so I really don't think he ever was called for the game. What it can happen in RL, is that a voice clip of two from Gasman were used but I think the voice actor isn't the same from RO now.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
I'm very sure it is still Gasman in RO. It's the same voice type as in the previous games. I guess the only way to get definitive proof is to somehow ask him or someone else that worked on the game.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
IMDb is user-edited. The in-game credits are a much more reliable source. Rayman in Origins doesn't sound at all like Gasman to me. I actually think his vocalisations may be female.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
I doubt that. I mean, I don't doubt the reliability of in-game credits, but I still feel that it really is David Gasman voicing Rayman in Origins and Legends. There are certain instances in Origins where his voice is extremely similar to his voice in Rayman 2 and onward, and not because a different actor is trying to sound like Gasman. It's hard to explain, but the two voice types feel and sound the same to me. Perhaps in the future I'll create a video that compares the different voices.
Sorry, I'm making a bid deal out of this, but I feel it's important to know for sure who Rayman's voice actor is in Origins and Legends.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
he's DEFINITELY not the voice actor from RO. in RO his voice did sound more feminine. but now when he jumps out of paintings etc. he makes a deep "YEAH!".

Gasman did the English voice acting for Rayman in Rayman 2, not the gibberish.Earth Gwee wrote:I doubt that. Also, I'm quite certain the Origins voice actor is female, I recall it being stated somewhere official.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
Huh. Well, if it was stated official that it was a female, I suppose I can put that to rest. But I could've sworn Gasman also did the gibberish, unless I read the wiki page wrong.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
Well, I think it's safe to infer that he didn't do the gibberish in Rayman 2, as there are hints at it being a voice actor I can't remember the name of (but not totally confirmed to be him), and his real life voice and Rayman 2 English voice sound absolutely nothing like the Rayman 2 gibberish voice. Whoever did the gibberish clearly had a perfect grasp on range and emotion, something Gasman doesn't really have at all. Their timbres are also completely different, and while it is possible for a good voice actor to do voices that sound absolutely nothing like their own, a good voice actor would not one day suddenly lose all understanding of conveying emotion and exhibiting good pacing when doing a different voice.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
I see. That does make sense.
I actually do enjoy Gasman as Rayman, but I haven't much choice but to admit that he does lack a better range of emotion. Which is why I hope to see more from him. I want to see him develop more as an actor. Something else I'll say is that he has gotten better as Rayman over the years, compared to when he first voiced him for the PS1 version of Rayman 2.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
I don't want to start a war but between the performance of Gasman and Garijó, I prefer the latter. I think the French Rayman voice is truly the original one, and not the English. (Don't get me wrong, I like the English voice but the French one feels more like Rayman himself)
English:

French:
I even recommend people to play the french language of Rayman Revolution than the English one, I think it ends up rewarding. The voice actors knew more how to interpret and to show their emotions better than the english voice actors. (Example: Razorbeard does screams when falling with the Grolgoth in French, contrary to the "HEY!" of the English one that sounds so unfitting and unrealistic)

Re: Rayman's voice actor
Do you mean, you prefer the latter?
Re: Rayman's voice actor
Fixed, thanks for the correction.
Re: Rayman's voice actor
Best thing about Rayman Revolution is that you can put in options voices on French and English subtitles. I wish Hoodlum Havoc had that option as well. I wonder if it is possible to replace some files in PC version to get French voices and English subs.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
If there's anyone you'd want to inquire with about that, it would be Drolpiraat. Inserting sounds is always more difficult than ripping them though, so it's doubtful even he would have an idea of how to do that.
Re: Rayman's voice actor
Actually, in some games, Swaping sounds is easy. I for example swaped sounds of Sonic Heroes myself and got Japanese voices and English subs. You just go to Program Files and find what files are English and What Japanese and Swap them. I did same in Jet Set Radio, and even in some PSP games like Prinny. Some PSP games are hard because it depends are voices in seperate files or not. Mega Man games are good example of the ones I cannot swap sound.

Re: Rayman's voice actor
Well, I do agree with you on that. And being that Rayman is of French origin, it makes sense that the French actors have a firmer grasp on emotion. But I feel like leaning towards Gasman more. I dunno, there's a certain charm in his voice that appeals to me. It's hard to explain.Haruka wrote:I even recommend people to play the french language of Rayman Revolution than the English one, I think it ends up rewarding. Re: Rayman's voice actor
Well, it's not quite that literal in Rayman 2. As far as I know, they're likely all compressed in with other things.OldClassicGamer wrote:Actually, in some games, Swaping sounds is easy. Re: Rayman's voice actor
Hm, indeed, and we don't possess as hefty a bulk of hackers as the Sonic fanbase does, so we haven't really done much in terms of getting into the Rayman games.
Re: Rayman's voice actor
Hackers for Sonic games are basicly the only good thing in my opinion in Sonic fanbase. I am suprised Ad and Omar cannot even swap voice files. But then again, maybe it is really hard.
