< was trying to record something when < picked this up:
https://soundcloud.com/shrooblord/backg ... e-rainfall

My computer hasn't been plugged in to any line-ins yet. Is it possible that it's picking up the sound of rain through the power cables...?!
<'d like to know what's causing this sound either way, because < would want to get rid of it so < can record things. :P

< wanted to save money for a new PS3 since two days. < ordered one today. That was kinda easy ._. <s brother wanted also a PS3, so we made a deal to pay 50:50 off the price

But < cannot purchase anything for next month. No receiving and sending parcel are possible for next month :? . If you read this Name Censored, < is truly sorry! Yours won't be dispatched anymore on time  .

Yeah, it's pretty cool, but it bugs the hell out of <, because now < can't record squat!

Incidentally, now that the rain's subsided, the sound's still there. It wasn't rain after all. But then what is it? What is causing this noise even though my recording input isn't even plugged in yet?

EDIT:
Further research provides me that the problem is not present in Audacity. For some reason, only Cubase has background noise...?!

Was it actually raining at all when ^ picked this up? < needs to know the answer to that question before < can help further.

Can ^ send < a 44.1k WAV of the noise? SoundCloud compresses files to the low bitrate 128 kb/s MP3s, so < won't be able to hear the higher frequencies of the noise to determine what kind of noise it might be, or if it actually is the sound of rainfall.

It was - I put that in the SC description; should've posted that here too.

I will, but I've since determined that it was actually indeed not rainfall, as now that it's not raining anymore, the sound persists. Sounds suspiciously like individual droplets sometimes, though.

Like I mentioned, the problem is not present in Audacity. It only happens in Cubase itself. I think it's picking up on my computer's CPU somehow. I'll send you the file so you can see for yourself (via PM) now.

Edit:
Actually, right now the sound is gone. The only thing that's changed is that I've unplugged my keyboard so I could charge my DSi. Hm.

Does the keyboard have a grounding prong, and was it plugged into the computer's (or interface's?) line-in?

It does, but the socket 'box' (multiple sockets connected to one actual wall-socket) and the wall-socket are not grounded. The keyboard acts only as a MIDI controller and is hooked up through USB. The only things in my computer's jacks are my 5.1 speakers and, when I want to, the line-in device (but I hadn't connected a line-in at time of recording this 'rain').

Keyboard as in piano-keyboard for playing music into the computer. My DSi as in the Nintendo Double Screen i, the newer version just before the 3DS. My plug 'box' (damn - what's that called) is full up and I have to switch around certain plugs if I need to.

Bedroom light, it does that at times, but yesterday it was much more prominent and annoyingly noticeable.

I was actually pointing out that '<' is a third-person declaration, so if you say "< light," that's literally saying "Master4lyf1 light." You need the apostrophe: "<'s light."
