My Dreamcast isn't modded, I bought it here in America and could load the Japanese version of Rayman 2 after I use a burnt boot disc that allows you to run other region games and... 'backups'.
There are some Dreamcast models that are made region free by sega that could play imports direcrly opened from box.
Are those special releases marked or should one be just lucky?

That's what I am wondering too, because it would be nice to be able to find one and know about it.

They are marked but I don't know model's name. I need to find it because I would love to buy Dreamcast and be able to play Imports without Some boot disc or modding.

Well, at least the boot disc helps keep you from having to mod anything. So that's a great benefit for those afraid of the soldering iron.

Speaking of soldering irons, I'll have to take mine to my black Sega Gamegear and replace some capacitors...

Hardcore maintenance, I get rather nervous near soldering irons.

Yeah, I do get nervous too, but I do use one. At least if you fear it, you respect it. They can burn you or what ever you accidentally touch if you're not careful. I have an actual solder station I got when I wanted to fix, repair, restore, and maintain my vintage audio gear.

I'd love to get something more dedicated for heatshrink too.

I admit, I'm not known for my practicality, I struggle when it comes to physical tasks, such as soldering, or wiring up breadboards. I prefer the academic side of things.

I never really did practice soldering, I took a couple of tries with a breadboard and a couple of resistors, then jumped straight into replacing the capacitors in the amplifier board of my vintage Pioneer SX-1050 receiver. Which actually was quite successful, still gotta do more work to the rest of the unit but I think I did pretty good.

What I do find rather difficult sometimes is keeping a steady hand or if you need more than two hands to work with.

You will need to be a member at Underground Gamer if you want to download it, but it’s there. Foultzboyz (who hasn’t been online in ages by the way) said that the blue Eat at Joe’s background is yellow in this version or has a yellow mist or something like that. There are probably a bunch of minor changes like that.
Sadly, Underground-Gamer is gone

Was Rayman blue in the japanese version of Rayman 1, like he was in Rayman 2 Japanese?

Thanks for link, but I don't have a Saturn and I dislike Saturn Emulator. I would much more prefer PS1 Imports since I play those on PS2.

I'm very darn near tempted to buy all the Japanese Rockman (Mega Man) games for my SNES from someone in Japan, since I could get them all cheaper than I could by buying just one of the North American Mega Man X3. :|

Sellers on Ebay here, all the time claim the game to be rare, but I see a lot of listings of the same thing, what the crap?

Japanese sellers on eBay are much more honest about game's actual price. Americans always like to put some insane price and claim game is impossible to find.

This is why I keep saying that the Japanese always have the best stuff. - Well, I say that anyway because they generally get the coolest stuff.

Hey, you're in Japan, arn't you? I'm having a hard time finding possible confirmation, but the language in the actual Rockman games, are they actually in English or are the very few screenshots and ROMS I tried modified to have English text? (Either way, I plan to get the games. Even though I can't read Japanese, it certainly doesn't make the game unplayable.)

Right now I am not in Japan, but since I was in past I can confirm that sadly none of the Rockman games has English text included. Such a shame that Capcom did not do like Sega did for Sonic. All Japanese Versions of Sonic include both English and Japanese Voices and both Japanese and English text so you can customize how you like. But at least most of Rockman games are playable without knowing Japanese. Only ones that are not are RPG titles. Classic and X seires is playable without knowing Japanese, same goes for PSP remakes (but you should see let's play in English to memorize Menu options so you know how to save).

Okay, so then that definitely proves that the roms were indeed modified. :(

Shucks, they should have left them untouched, with the original Japanese text.
