Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Actually it's GEMA who blocks those videos. I used to call them as 'Grundlose Erfindung Menschlischer Arschlöcher' which means in English 'Useless Invention of Assholes'
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Got to compliment the website's name.OldClassicGamer wrote:Let me help you with that friend.emshomar wrote:All Youtube links are banned in Germany >_>
First you need to copy URL of the video, go to website http://hidemyass.com/ and paste URL. Click on button Hide My Ass and you will go on website. Video will load. I used that many times to watched banned videos.

Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
I heard in some of Kraftwerk's tracks and the most I enjoyed was Radioactivity
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
It was pretty good I admit. I am gonna listen to more of their songs.
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
It is hard to recommend just one album because I pretty much love everything they created, but I think that Autobahn and Trans-Europe Express are good trials.
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
I am listening to Autobahn right now and It is really good. Thanks for recommandation Haruka.

Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
You guys know what actually a 'Autobahn', don't you? If not so the American Term is highway and the British motorway. People here telling Hotler invented the so called Autobahn xD
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Me, I really enjoy alternative rock and thrash metal. To start off, my favourite thrash metal band is Acid Drinkers- whom my parents and I are friends with which is pretty fucking amazing
they're a Polish band. In fact, I have an old photo of me with their drummer, Mangood (in Polish he's actually called Ślimak, which means snail).
Recently I've started listening to a shitload of Muse. I especially love Dominic Howard, their drummer. One of the more minor things I like about him is that he's left-handed. However, while I am a lefty also, I drum right-handed, and I dislike playing open-handed... so I'm pretty much a right-handed drummer.
Chris Wolfenstein or whatever the fuck his surname is (actually Wolstenholme I think), well what can I say, I honestly don't know what to think of him. He's a most excellent bass player and I like his vocals, but I just kinda don't like him as much as Dom, or...
Matt Bellamy, who is a brilliant guitarist and his vocal range is beyond amazing. I dare to say these three are musical geniuses. My favourite song of all-time is currently Muscle Museum from their debut album, Showbiz. In fact, Showbiz and Demon Days (by Gorillaz) are possibly the only two albums on which I like each and every song.
In fact, the only flaw about Muse I can find is this:

My other favourite band is definitely Gorillaz. While I kinda dislike calling them a band, seeing as they're moreso a project created by Damon Albarn of Blur fame and Jamie Hewlett (some of my favourite artists in their respective genres, actually!). I could write an essay on each of their main albums (Gorillaz; Demon Days; Plastic Beach) and perhaps also The Fall. However my favourite of the bunch is Demon Days, which has a really dark tone and catchy songs like Feel Good Inc. (which was one of their most popular and well-received singles) or DARE (featuring Shaun Rhyder). Their first album had a few brilliant tracks as well, but I can't say it's my favourite - it was a bit too hippity hoppity for my tastes, and the intro track (Re-Hash) is a perfect example of the album's tone. However, Sound Check (Gravity), 5/4, Clint Eastwood (probably their best single, and if not best, then at least most popular), M1A1 and a few others. Plastic Beach, their most recent album, is quite a bit more electronic, and I guess I like it, but not as much as the others. It has some really good tracks like Broken, Plastic Beach (the title track featuring Paul Simonon and Mick Jones of the Clash), To Binge (featuring Little Dragon), Stylo (featuring Bobby Womack and Mos Def I think), and of course one of my favourite songs of all-time (although beaten by Muscle Museum), Rhinestone Eyes. Words cannot describe how much I love that track, and the live versions are even better.
Speaking of the live performances of Gorillaz, I must say I love the line-up, which we could maybe call the actual Gorillaz band. Damon Albarn is always fantastic on his performances, I like how he improvises the lyrics sometimes, most noticeably on Rhinestone Eyes or Kids with Guns, hell even Feel Good Inc. I really like how the band is pretty massive, almost like a whole extended family. It has a string section (which I love, especially how Damon decided to give the string section a part in Clint Eastwood and Rhinestone Eyes, plus they're epic in Last Living Souls and Dirty Harry), two drummers (one of which is Cass Browne - one of my inspirators if that's a word; the other one is a black person who loves to rock out while playing Glitter Freeze, lol), two guitarists (a young guy who mostly plays acoustic guitar, I can't remember his name, and also Mick Jones) and, I believe, two bassists also (one of them of course being Paul Simonon). I love the chemistry the main three (Damon, Paul and Mick) share while on stage together - they even mildly resemble 2-D, Murdoc and Noodle from the animated band! Maybe not Mick, but definitely Damon and Paul.
I love what Damon prepares for the concerts - he always makes sure to bring in subtle changes that make the songs even better, a good example being the acoustic/electronic drum mixture in Rhinestone Eyes or the electric guitar in O Green World, fuck even the string section in Clint Eastwood I've mentioned before. Jamie prepares the visuals etc. and he does an excellent job at that.
Damon is a really swell guy, but he can't play xylophone for shit.

Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
I don't care about genres. If it sounds good to me then I'll listen to it.
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Ye, Gorillaz is fucking amazing and Demon Days is their best work. Definitely one of my favourite bands. Love Albarn's work, like Blur and whatnot. Gorillaz makes for such unique sound it doesn't have an actual genre you could use to label all their sound.
I have a mixed liking of music. I love alternative, rock, electronica, or otherworldly. Most probably know Radiohead is my favourite band in the world, and rightfully. Such fucking talent and Yorke just always manages to sing with such true emotion, but in a way that it sounds like he actually means what he says. He's one of the very few people who can truly mean it when his lyrics are fight-the-system themed. A while back i read an interview in which he stated he still gets emotional over a song they produced back in fucking 1994. Varied sound, no commercial bullshit, and not having the want to be a big band is what I think makes them brilliant. They don't need to make their music sound epic to make you feel like it is epic. The King of Limbs is such a natural, gloomy album taking a big step down from In Rainbows, and it still manages to impress me equally. And instrumentally they are no worse. Not to be cliche, but it shouldn't go unnoticed by anyone that Jonny Greenwood has got to be one of the best guitarists of the past thirty years, and him often being listed in top 50's and such is what he deserves. But unlike many my favourite in terms of sound has got to be Phil Selway. Fuck his drumming is good. Always creative and completing the song.
And of course I love Yorke's other work like The Eraser, Atoms for Peace etc. Good stuff. His one man projects have a sound you don't really find from any other artist/band, but I'd understand if someone can't find joy in it.
Other bands that come in as secondary favourites are like I mentioned before Gorillaz, but also Muse, Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Modest Mouse, and Coldplay (Which I will admit went downhill with their latest album). I'm not going into much detail about all of them but I do gotta say that Muse is fucking great. The Resistance and Origin of Symmetry I often play.
While I'm a big sucker for guitar and raw sound, computer made music is what I do like best. Otherworldly sound like Flying Lotus really clicks with me. It's like a mixture of emotions ranging from depression to optimism being mixed together, sometimes gently and other times very rough. More straightforward music like Modeselektor works with me too though.
Oh and Daft Punk. Loving those guys. One of the very who can put out something that keeps the same general sound on all their tracks (Human After All) and not make it a bore.
Other things I listen to are Beck, Bjork, Aphex Twin, Ultraista, Mount Kimbie, The White Stripes, Jack White, The Raconteurs, Will Young (Guilty pleasure), Robbie Williams (Another guilty pleasure), Joy Division, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Air, Sigur Ros, Portishead, Grizzly Bear, Placebo, Tame Impala, Massive Attack, UNKLE, and a whole bunch of others I can't think of right now.
Gotta give a shoutout to King Krule too. He's barely 18 and already put out such a fucking great EP. Excellent guitarist and some of the most unique vocals I've ever heard. Check dis shit out.
And Koji Kondo of course.

Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
I agree on the first paragraph other than the "calling Gorillaz a band" thing.
Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Demon Days is so good! My favourite bands are The Police, Blur, Tears For Fears, The Doors, The Who and Fleetwood Mac. I also listen to a lot of game and movie soundtracks too.

Re: What are people's musical tastes here?
Ah, Tears for Fears, of course. Who could forget?
In regards to Gorillaz, I actually think that Plastic Beach might actually be my favourite album. It's so varied and atmospheric, and I find myself being immersed into every single song in it, unlike Demon Days, where I can only do so with about five or six songs (most notably Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc, Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head, Don't get Lost in Heaven, and Demon Days).
Empire Ants is awesome, by the way.
