Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
I respect your opinion Ad, but I won't change anything I said. My opinion stays the same.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
Do you prefer Croc 1 or Croc 2 (not the graphics of course but overall gameplay)
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
That's a pertinent question, because both games share for me almost the same level of enjoyment, but I think I will point to Croc 1 as favourite title. Croc 2 uses an explorable hub system while you need to purchase items to fully collect the coloured crystals, I think this made gameplay a little more boring (especially when people don't know by heart which items to afford and which levels to play first). Croc 1 was more straightforward, with a classical map system working like Crash Bandicoot and the Hall of Doors of Rayman 2.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
Main reason why I prefer Croc 1 as well. And as for graphics, if people try PC version on Windows XP on 1920x1080 I am sure it would be a lot better. Sadly Windows 7 and Windows 8 users are forced to use nGlide since DirectX has some issue of making huge black blobs on screen which makes game unplayable with that setting.Haruka wrote:Croc 1 was more straightforward, with a classical map system working like Crash Bandicoot and the Hall of Doors of Rayman 2.
When I had Win XP, I did not have 1920x1080 monitor so I could not try it out.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
Croc 2 is unquestionably better in the graphical department, but I only don't like a lot how they modeled the Gobbos and Baron Dante. The Dantinis got all huge for some reason and with derivated designs. I liked more how variated the Dantinis were in the first game.

Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
I still want to play Croc 1 and 2 for the PC, seriously why isn't it on GoG.com?
It would have a great spot on there!

Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
Argonaut is bankrupt since January 2004. So both games are officially abandonware, so there won't be issues if you download both games on the internet.

Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
According to wikipedia, argonaut games cancelled a title: "Croc 3: Stone of The Gobbos, 2005 (GameCube, PC, PS2, Xbox)"
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
It's a shame it got cancelled.

The cancelation of Rayman 4 is a bigger shame.

Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
Maybe, but we never fully saw what it was, for all we know, it might have turned out to be a major flop.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
The IP copyright is currently being held by Jez San, but from what I heard, he doesn't plan anything for the franchise in future. I guess there's nothing that can be done.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
He made some mobile Croc games after Croc 2 right?
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
I recommend to stay away from the symbian games, and the GBC port of Croc 2.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
I never tried or saw Symbian Croc games, but I saw gameplay of Croc 2 GBC and honestly it looks terrible. I hate the perspective of game and I recommend sidescroller view.
Re: Croc! Legend of the Gobbos
I played the GBC Croc 2 some months ago and it was an herculean effort to manage to reach the end itself. And like if it was not enough, it wasn't the real ending. To get the real ending I'm forced to backtrack all the levels to get all the coloured crystals, and with the lack of a map in the game the levels are completely labyrinthical and you simply have no idea where to go. The controls are pretty awkward too, especially the way you need to do an acrobatic jump (I think it would have worked better with a combo of B and A than pressing the D-Pad twice to start running to perform the acrobatic jump). And there are no checkpoints in the levels: if you lose all your hearts, you're back to the beginning of the level to start all over. Backtracking for the real ending? I don't think so, I would rather note the final password from the internet and consider that I already did all. It is not worth it. I know other Croc fans that dislike the game for the same reasons I do.
Really, stay away from this awkward port, I would rather tell you to play the original Croc 1 for GBC, which is a little better and is fully completable.

You successfully convinced me never to try that game.
You know really good to write opinions and reviews on games.
