Re: Crash Bandicoot
I've actually seen many glimpses of the CB fanbase, a lot of them act very childish
(example that dude who ranted on OCG), it's pretty pathetic sadly.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
Yeah, there is one person who made like a 10 videos and ranted on me. He is some kid though. Makes me wonder what are his parents doing.

With kids like that, his parents probably just gave him his own computer, his own lifetime supply of food, then left him forever.OldClassicGamer wrote:Yeah, there is one person who made like a 10 videos and ranted on me. He is some kid though. Makes me wonder what are his parents doing.
Re: Crash Bandicoot
I'm in a group on Facebook with a somewhat large community of hardcore Crash Bandicoot fans. From what I have witnessed, alot of them are very vocal and I often see a few of them treating Crash like a god (like literally). But most of them seem like nice guys.

@Adsolution, some help, huh?
Not bad idea!
I think you should play a PS1 Crash game first though.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
My opinion on the PS2/GC/Xbox era (part 3): After this, I'll try to start my thoughts on the GBA series. But I'll try to keep this one a bit more short and sweet, I'm not doing any other game after this era (ignoring the Titans series), and this is Crash Tag Team Racing, yes a 3rd installment in the Crash racing series. My thoughts on it are mostly mixed, but I think I may say well, I don't like it very much honestly. Though I can't lie this game has many similarities to Twinsanity, the acapella music is still there in some places, the very nice CGI cutscenes return, and well that's it really.
Crash Tag Team Racing is a really strange game, you're greeted to many new characters, and sadly I find these new characters to be extremely uninteresting, I mean a giant talking wumpa fruit? Are you serious? Anyways the big part I should go into about this game, it's basically divided into 2 major parts, platforming and racing, yes a mix of both. Now what really drives me insane is most of the CB fanbase thinking this is the best Crash racing game... really? Tag Team Racing has a lot of problems which you bet your ass I'll go into. Anyways one problem I had with Tag Team Racing was the world it introduced, I do like how they decided to go with your generic pirate themed levels and all that, but... something is missing, where are the actual Crash themed levels? There are none of them, it's just your generic themed worlds. Now the platforming sections serve as hub worlds, however don't expect the platforming to be anything like Twinsanity, Crash's model seems a bit more slim in this game but not too different. However I seriously think the combat in the game is a complete fucking joke, you can repeatedly press the action button as much as you want and Crash will go flying, no breaks in between the spins, nothing like that. You can go fucking crazy with the spins and I honestly find this really ridiculous. And you're only introduced to what I think just 2 enemies through out the ENTIRE game which you'll see through the hub worlds. Both of which have nothing to do with Crash.
My general concern for Tag Team Racing is that well... Crash is in it, I'm not making much sense here, so let me elaborate. Tag Team Racing was missing a lot of the aspects a Crash, let alone Crash racing game often had, the Crash themed worlds are non-existant, and here is where this comes into play, I feel like you could have inserted ANY big selling name into the title and it could have been that, like Shrek Tag Team Racing, it literally just feels like a racing game with Crash just thrown onto it. It could have been anyone else and still make some sort of sense, any big name seller. And similar to Bash, they got rid of a lot of the good characters who would be great for the race, such as N. Tropy. These new bland characters introduced just make the game even more of a bore. Oxide? Forget fucking him, he's gone in this. The story I don't even have to explain, it's a very uninteresting story. Let me continue to the platforming element, as I said before, the platforming parts of the game serve as a hub world, and I will admit the hub worlds do look pretty nice but they aren't Crash related at all, how about have an island themed level from Crash 1 or something of the sort? You literally get nothing of that, but enough of the worlds. I already explained how the combat is a complete joke in the platforming parts of the game. Basically the rest is just your simple collect-a-thon, I heard a reviewer once say that he found the hub worlds fun to play around in, I sadly very much disagree with this. There are many side missions that you can do during the hub world which is nice yes, but I am honestly not a fan of the way Crash controls in this game, I loved the solidness of the way Crash controlled in Twinsanity, here, he controls as if he's on fucking ice, I'm not kidding, he slips all over the place, it's very discomforting when doing missions or anything of the sort. Overall the hub worlds I don't enjoy, while they do look nice, they are totally unrelated to the series and have sloppy controls. Another thing I should mention, the frame rate (at least on the PS2 version since it's the only one I own), is completely horrid, seriously what happened, the framerate in Twinsanity was freaking great, not sure what happened here.
Now to move onto the racing aspect... *sigh*, well I do very much understand they tried something new. But this comes into play again, yes again, they could have put ANY OTHER character in here, when I play the racing sections, I don't even feel like I'm playing a Crash game. Seriously, you could have just put Shrek in that and it would have made slightly more sense. The racing sections have many parts, but I'll just go into the main racing aspect... now I won't lie there are some slightly fun moments I had during the races, I can't lie, however the racing feels completely unbalanced and broken. Now the gimmick of this game you can morph each others cars together which I actually find to be a really neat concept, this is a bit similar to the style of Mario Kart Double Dash, except one player drives and the other takes a turrett in the back, while I do like this concept the player can truly take extreme advantage of this, on the very last second the player can unmorph his car near the finish line and be a complete asshole and end up in first completely betraying you. I hate how they didn't put a limit on that, they should only let you morph and unmorph once, it makes the game unbalanced and easy to be a complete dick to your opponent. But the races are a tad bit fun, I won't lie, but a big concern I have is how many times you'll have to play that track is ridiculous, I understand they want the replay value to be good, but it requires you to play that same level 5 (or 6, I forget) times. There is honestly no need for that, Crash Team racing had only 3 ways to replay, normal, gem, and relic, the way it SHOULD be. Overall the racing while actually decent is just truly unfair, unbalanced, but it is a bit fun if you're wanting to be a dick, and the level design is pretty nice, but still unrelated to Crash. They also have a battle mode now, but considering I've only played it once or twice I can't fully judge that.
Lastly we have minigames, like bowling, target practice, etc., what is there to say about these? Once again, completely unrelated to Crash, very generic boring minigames, but I suppose it is a decent timekiller.
Tag Team Racing did have some interesting aspects however, you can cause mayhem in the amusement park and unlock cutscenes in which you'll have a violent act happen to you, this is a very interesting aspect. Another thing I didn't like about that this game was the absolutely boring cutscenes, at least the cutscenes in Twinsanity were really enjoyable and funny, here they are seriously bland, and it uses the same CGI that Twinsanity did, so I'm not sure why this is a problem. To be honest I have not finished Tag Team Racing and as far as I'm concerned I probably never will, it's overall very boring, unbalanced, and the whole game just feels like a quick cash-in, just make a random racing title and insert Crash in it, the game would probably be fun with two players though. Anyways if I were to rate, I'd give it a 6/10. For Crash fans to call this the best Crash racing game is honestly beyond me.
-Boring platforming elements
-Bland minigames
-Unbalanced racing sections
-Dreadful new characters
+Some occasional fun moments in the races
