That is the best Yu-Gi-Oh. But trust <, the show itself is basically that, but then a lot more tedious, even though < always enjoyed watching it.Serza5 wrote:< hasn't watched Yu-gi-oh herself, only the abridged![]()
< was quite annoyed with the downtime that seemed to last two entire days; or at least, when < tried to log on for two days straight.

Re: The You Game!
It's a daily thing, < noticed it starts about 21:00 to 21:30 BST, and can end within minutes, a few hours, or even about a day.
Re: The You Game!
< watched Abridged Yu-Gi-Oh and Japanese version.
< did not watched 4kids version but < heared from people it is bad with censorship, bad voice acting and name changes.
< heared FUNimation produced uncut English DVDs with better voice acting and same names of characters like in Japanese version but < could not find any online links with FUNimation version.
< usually watches Anime on Japanese but < likes to check FUNimation dubs too.

< remembers taping a Yu-Gi-Oh film that was on TV back in the days where tape recorders were still a thing. < has it in his videocupboard. < remembers it being about some ghostly pyramid possessing everyone's life and Kaiba (of course) trying to destroy the world with its power or something like that. Of course the world is saved at the hand of CARD GAMES!

Re: The You Game!
Some of the censorship is rather severe when you compare it to the original's much darker, edgier material. Scenes that involve torture, blatant death or extreme violence were obviously cut, but by no means is the censorship done poorly at all.OldClassicGamer wrote:< did not watched 4kids version but < heared from people it is bad with censorship, bad voice acting and name changes.
As for the voice acting, it's rather interesting, as the range of quality in it varies greatly. Some of the voice actors are absolutely superb (moreso for the protagonists) and are easily on-par with their Japanese equivalents, whereas others are pretty cringe-worthy (moreso for the villains).
When it comes to name-changes, I never understood why people complained about this sort of thing. Most cartoons and animes take place in fictional or unspecific locations, so I think that the notion of name-changing is about as obvious as translating the language itself. Besides, only the more complicated Japanese names were changed (e.g. Johonchi -> Joey), and those changes are by all means creative and fitting enough. If it's a show aimed at youth and children, not changing very foreign names to conform to their spoken language would be just downright strange.
Obviously the original Japanese version is how it was meant to be, but it's a give-in that the American version is going to be changed and/or censored to optimally appeal to the directed audience. As far as 4kids-esque dubs go, this one has actually managed to get away with quite a bit (such as Kaiba threatening suicide in the first season, the physical results of Marik's torture in the second (even though the torture scene was cut), and Noah (Kaiba's step-brother)'s mind being deleted in the third, killing him) while still managing to stay within the bounds of what's legal for children's broadcasting laws in America.
Bad voice-acting is the only consistently valid criticism one can give to a dub when comparing it with the original. Censorship can be done well or poorly but is nonetheless necessary, and people who complain about the idea of name-changing are stupid purists.
Re: The You Game!
Ah, thanks for explaining more about 4kids dub. Many people seem to criticise 4kids mostly because they think 4kids censores too much compared to FUNimation. FUNimation only censores really necessary parts because without that, content could not air on American TV, and I do understand laws in that country are different about television, while 4kids censores beyond needed. That is why I dislike 4kids. And about name changes, I have mixed opinions. Phoenix Wright is a prime example of good name change. I doubt anyone in America could remember his first and last name on Japanese (Ryūichi Naruhodō). Miles Edgeworth sounds so much better in my opinion then Reiji Mitsurugi, and remember, I am fan of Japanese culture and I lived there as well. But sometimes I prefer original names like in Mega Man I prefer all names on original except for Mega Man himself (Rockman does not sound that cool). Bottom line, I am not bothered by name changes that much. Voice acting is something that FUNimation does a lot better in my opinion. And remember, I am not bashing 4kids like it is the worst company or the devil itself like I seen other people do.

< Has been trying something a little different than Tekkit lately, but it's part of the same Technic Launcher packages, called Big Dig. Same as Tekkit but with much more items. < and a friend like it for the additional items, such as types of wood, making it more creative for building homes.

With the kind of tools that it provides, perhaps, if < ever got a PC powerful enough to run it, < could build a hidden lair, as < has always wanted.

Re: The You Game!
<'s friend Marklar is working with a modder to create mods of their own based around magic. It sounds very cool and all, but < is more into the mechanical stuff that mods like RedPower (controversial as that topic is) used to bring. < loves playing around with sliding walls, hidden switches and unseen trapdoors.
Come to think of it, Marklar was also working with someone to recreate Frames from RedPower, but then better and more supportive of the newer versions of the game.

< is happy RPC is up again
Re: The You Game!
< is wondering why is there always a server error
Re: The You Game!
< is annoyed. No freaking server should be as unstable as RPC's.
