The ThinkPad Stick: Good or Evil

Post by technology4617 »

It is time to decide whether Lenovo's rubbery glans is, in fact, useful, or whether it is just a smaller, shitttier version of a touchpad. Your choice can be based on both the validity of the idea, and your own personal preference.

Personally, I think it goes down as the most useless pointing device in the history of computing, worse than both the joystick (as a mouse replacement, I mean) and the trackball.

This technology has been around since the 90s.

The fuck? The joystick? Bad?

Personally, the thinkpad looks pretty nice. I like it.

The joystick is fantastic for gaming, but not great as a mouse replacement. The ThinkPad line is great, but I find that little nub absolutely useless.

Well, yeah. That doesn't really have anything to do with anything, which while doing anything, does anything besides nothing, which is not anything. Regardless, it's irrelevant. :P

I have an old IBM ThinkPad that has that as the only means of using a mouse, and my Lenovo ThinkPad notebook has that along with a touchpad.

However I know some people who would disagree in your statement of it being absolutely useless, as they find it much better than touchpads. I do give mine use too, as I use it and the touchpad, depending on what I feel like using. :)

I made the topic to see what others thought. :) I thought of making this topic because of a conversation my dad and I had about different pointing devices, and what we liked and disliked.

Ah yes, my Dad had an old ThinkPad which had this on, I used to call them "Rubber Nubs" for some odd reason.
Personally, I think they were perfectly fine, they worked well for their time, but I think the touchpad is quicker, personally.
All in all, I hold a greater preference for a physical mouse, much more precise.

Funny how even something as humble as a pointer can be put through amazing and zany concepts such as that, though I must say, that device doesn't really appear to be productive at all.

Since you can do the same thing with your mouse if you increase its speed, it isn't really useful at all. Unless you like staring down at it's beauty, it's fuckin' beauty, taking your two little fingers to it, and inserting them gently--

It's a cool idea, but executed poorly.

That's one weird-ass mouse. I guess it's still better than the ball-bearing mice that existed at the time, though.
