You're absolutely right on this. It's kind of good that this skin is just a glowing Teensie but at first I really thought it could be something like this. Well, at least I expected something more epic from the 700 cages skin. It's maybe good that they don't reuse original Rayman characters like Mr. Dark again. I think a boss fight would destroy the whole myth of him.

As for the 700 cages skin: The recent Rayman games are just overteensiefied in my opinion and this had to be a Teensie skin again? Ah, well. Have to deal with it. In Legends there are only 4 character types: the Barbara-type (all the princesses), the Globox-type, the Teensie-type and the Rayman-type. It wouldn't hurt to much to see some more character types with different animations but I think they did a pretty decent job on them in comparison to Origins. Especially Olympia and Ursula are very nice characters to use and of course the different Rayman skins.

Oh, I'm also waiting for my Wii U copy. Hopefully it shall arrive Monday afternoon.

Speaking about codes, I wonder if the codes are equal or if they are different. If they were equal, it would be nice members sharing them for more players having access to them.

Didn't he die in like... the GBC version?

I don't think many of us consider that canon, seeing as its a spin off.
Didn't Rayman Origins at one point in development feature and detail Mr. Dark?

@Master Correct, but something really wrong must have happened in Montpellier to ultimately scrap Mr. Dark's real appearance and replacing him for Ales Mansay.

He seems fairly popular among people who played the original game as kids – probably more so than any other Rayman character. It wouldn't have any real impact on sales or anything, but there's definitely a substantial fraction of players who'd be happy to see him return.

I'd take this one step further and suggest that Legends was actually mildly successful in adding to the myth of Mr Dark. It's never explicitly highlighted, but the Dark Teensies do imitate his behaviour by appearing in levels and casting spells on the heroes that make things more difficult, and since the Magician's adoration of Mr Dark was established in Origins, we know this was intentional. The developers managed to have their cake and eat it with Dark Rayman, who's inexplicably both a playable character and a real menace, sometimes at the same instant, and both of his incarnations directly evoke Mr Dark's creation in their own ways. As in Origins, his presence is felt. Considering the tone and style of these games, maybe oblique references to Mr Dark are more successful than a real appearance would be.

1) No, he didn't. His defeat in this game was as ambiguous as the defeat of every character in every Rayman game, and bringing him back in a hypothetical sequel to it would be so easy that it's a non-issue. This idea that he died was Shawn's illogical interpretation. For all his love of Mr Dark, he really wanted to believe that he died in that game. No idea why. In any case, he said it so often that it stuck in some people's minds, and now it seems it's somehow echoed into yours.

2) The Game Boy Color version is an alternative iteration of the original game's story. In a misguided attempt to legitimise it, Shawn insisted that it was a sequel set in the same continuity, although anyone who paid attention to the game itself would see that this was not the case. Again, he said this so often that it stuck in people's minds.

3) Even if the Game Boy Color version were intended as a canonical sequel featuring the definitive death of Mr Dark, it's still a little-known handheld spin-off from thirteen years ago, and in reality would provide absolutely no obstacle to bringing back a popular character.

When it was supposed to be a prequel, yes. Gabrielle Shrager said that they planned to explain Mr Dark's origins. In hindsight it was probably for the best that that didn't happen.

Mr. Dark's origins should not be revealed at all because he is supposed to be a mysterious character with little info about him. I am actually glad nothing about him was revealed, but I wish he was a boss in the game.

In retrospect, yes, though I think it goes without saying that Mr. Dark, for his relatively cheesy name, is probably the greatest and most intriguing villain the Rayman series has offered, all because, we know nothing about him, why he did what he did, and what his motives truly are.

I admire that perspective you have, and, I certainly can see where you're coming from, who knows? Maybe the UbiArt saga might dish out what we've waited for...as hopeless as it might be.

Gabrielle Shrager certainly fucked up Rayman's universe, didn't she? heh.

But hey... at least it was a step forward from the Rabbids era. At least.

Rayman Legends is another step.

We need more epicness, more excellent music, more gorgeous surrealism, and for the sake of god... a story. I don't mind if it is not 3d, because interviews hint that they'll stick to Ubiart for a little longer, but well, 3d would be interesting.

Although I don't remember Shawn and his opinions, when I played the GBC game I did interpret the end as Mr. Dark's death, but now that I think in it and knowing he is a dark wizard, he could probably revive easily if he wanted, or that was simply a trick to escape and convince Rayman that he really died. Or maybe I'm thinking too much.

Anyway, at least Mr. Dark's absence in RO made it avoid the transformation to a Teensie, something I would have not liked.

@Bionichute I didn't know it. Where did you see the name?

Hmmm, I am going to ask a favour to both you and MyBodyIsReady. Can you both indicate the last three digits from the code you got? Just to make sure if they are equal or different.

I wouldn't mind the next game having beyond good and evil refrences/announcements. after all, legends had splinter cell. also does anyone want andre and THE mr.dark to be relevant again?

Nobody talked about André (and he's an insignificant villain compared to both Razorbeard and Mr. Dark by the way) in this discussion, but who wouldn't like to see Mr. Dark back?

Exactly. I couldn't describe it better. Especially in Origins the dark tendrils and tentacles all around give a feel of an overall dark presence overshadowing the world. It's good to see Dark Rayman (aka the guy who chases you) back in Legends even if he is altered a little bit in comparison to his original appearance in Rayman 1. And I adore the new Darktoons even if I like the original design as such. As I said before, they remind me of the Langoliers.
