I said 3D Platformers. There are still plenty of 2D Platformers that come out (Mainly Indie), but 3D Platformers are rare these days.Master wrote:I disagree, while it is true that Platformers aren't the reigning Genre, there are still plenty of high quality games in the drama that see release every year, heck, one of the good things about the genre's fall from being dominant is that those that are in said genre have to put in a real effort now, as opposed to how we saw many crappy platformers back in their heyday.
Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?

What about Sonic and Mario? But yeah they are kind of getting rare but I don't see why there wouldn't be a new one in 3D for Rayman because of that.
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
Mario and Sonic are the two series if 3D platformers that will keep making games forever. Rayman also has a high chance now that he returned but it is shame he does not get enough sales
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I'd like to see a 3D Rayman mixing elements from Rayman 1 and 2. This artwork shows how beautiful it could have been:

Phoenix seemed to know much better what they wanted to do then, surprisingly, Ancel himself. I feel Ancel's take on the more humorous Rayman game isn't really that great. He may have made the original two games but those had different thinking behind his later Rayman related work. I also find that the Rayman 4 trailer really doesn't prove it to have been such a masterpiece. The animal riding doesn't look like anything remarkable nor do Ubisoft Montepellier's costumers look like anything more then gimmicks. I do like Phoenix's take on them.
The Rabbids may have been a pretty good villains. Raving Rabbids does make them appear in a much more brutal and even a bit creepy then later games, and having them act that way would have been interesting to see. However, looking at the artwork for their ideas makes me question how good the combination of the atmospherically perfect Picture City with a bunch of Rabbids screaming and running around would have been.

And, in all fairness and honesty, it was a little meh.
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I would have loved to see Pheonix's game finished, sadly we wont ever see it.
I'd really want one that isn't all about humor.Keane wrote: Phoenix seemed to know much better what they wanted to do then, surprisingly, Ancel himself. I feel Ancel's take on the more humorous Rayman game isn't really that great.

Same here, Rayman 2 has always been the best at setting the mood. From the first seconds of the cutscenes to the end of the game it has kind of melancholy feeling to it all, but with enough magic to balance it out and not be a purely dark game. Despite being obviously marketed for, I'd say, ages 7 - 15, it takes itself very seriously. I feel like Rayman 3 kinda did that but was let the wacky side of things take over the balance a bit. Rayman 4 would likely have had a similar tone as R3.ZeptoRay wrote:I would have loved to see Pheonix's game finished, sadly we wont ever see it.

It's only a matter of time before another 3D Rayman is made. Ubisoft can't depend on 2D Rayman forever.

People are already getting sick of the "New" series. If Rayman continues doing that people are bound to catch on that they're rehasing. And Rayman's not as popular as Mario.dartofthedavros wrote:if mario can make living off spaming us with seqeuls so can rayman :3SegaNintendoUbisoft wrote:It's only a matter of time before another 3D Rayman is made. That's one of the things I like about Rayman 2. Rayman 3 is still my favorite even though there is lot of humor in it.Keane wrote:Same here, Rayman 2 has always been the best at setting the mood. Ah well, there is Ad with ROTD that falls right in what i'd want to see from any video game so far.
No, if Ubisoft were to do that, sales would go down because people will see its always the same gameplay with nothing really new but levels and then you can say goodbye to Rayman. Also, Rayman isn't as popular as Mario so its different. Honestly, if they do another 2D game like Origins and Legends its going to be kind of lame since there wasn't really anything new in Legends other than the challenges, Kung Foot and the 3D bosses, the gameplay stays with the same basics.dartofthedavros wrote:if mario can make living off spaming us with seqeuls so can rayman :3SegaNintendoUbisoft wrote:It's only a matter of time before another 3D Rayman is made. Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
Yeah, Ad's game seems perfect. The closest game that I think comes to Pheonix's concept is Epic Mickey. It has the strange, dark, yet magical world that that art shows. It has plenty of seriousness in its story but not to the point where it's all doom and gloom. The platforming is clever and allows you to take in the atmosphere well. It's an absolutely charming game, with the only problems being the floaty jumping and bad camera. But seriously, if that game was Rayman 4 it would be a favourite among some of us here.

I'm not a fan of mickey mouse though.
But it seemed pretty nice.

Neither am I. Received it as a Christmas present and was quite surprised.ZeptoRay wrote:I'm not a fan of mickey mouse though. But it seemed pretty nice.
The Wii controls are but I still think it's the best when it comes to spraying the paint & thinner.dartofthedavros wrote:what did you play Epic mickey on? i thought the wii controls were a tad clunky.Keane wrote:Yeah, Ad's game seems perfect. my favorite part of the games was seeing oswald again
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
The game has a charming set of characters. One of the few things they managed to get right again in the sequel.

Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I think we've already established that the Phoenix Rayman 4 and Rayman Raving Rabbids were completely different games, so the atmospherically perfect Picture City wouldn't have been ruined at all.Keane wrote:However, looking at the artwork for their ideas makes me question how good the combination of the atmospherically perfect Picture City with a bunch of Rabbids screaming and running around would have been.
Also all of the concept art is amazing, especially Candy Ltd.

It was suppose to be even darker, but Disney told Warren Spector (Who also made the Deus Ex series (Except Human Revolution) and Thief series) to tone it down.Keane wrote:Yeah, Ad's game seems perfect.
