Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
As is common knowledge by most, PC has been known to attract many people of a kind, be they Sony fanboys, intellectuals, morons, amazing artists, people who actually like Crash more than Rayman, or autistics. Given the noticeable quantity of the latter in this community (which in fact encapsulates many of the forum's brightest members), I think it's reached a point where this question really begs for an answer:
How much of the Pirate-Community actually is autistic?
Whether you have it full-on, only a subsidiary such as Apsergers or something even as minor as ADHD, give the poll a Oui, and if you'd like, explain yourself. If you don't fall anywhere under the category, give it a Non.
According to a test I did back when I was ten or so, I may have ADD, but I'm willing to dismiss that claim since it seemed like they were really trying to get my money for a Ritalin subscription, and I don't seem to exhibit any traits that are usually associated with the disorder.

It may shock you all to learn that I'm not autistic in the slightest.
Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
Oui. Watch it become a majority(lol nevermind). I met lot of autistic people on the web.
I was told I had Asperger when I was 11 years old, kind of late.

Oui.
I have aspergers spectrum disorder and ADHD. I have had help with it and I have to take a lot of medication (a total of 6 tablets every morning to be exact). It isn't THAT bad though. It does mean that I excel in computers and have made stuff like mobile apps and games with that knowledge. It also means that I like different types of games that are actually GOOD as oposed to constantly shooting things.

I highly doubt that your taste in games is a direct result of having Aspergers/ADHD.tuxdude143 wrote:It also means that I like different types of games that are actually GOOD as oposed to constantly shooting things.
Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
Nope, not me. I know a few people in real life with it though; one of those being my best friend actually
Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
Hm, does everyone take/used to take medication for being autisic or something? I had something called Concerta for my concentration and autism I had to take once everyday. I had to stop taking them since my periods blood was turning black, that I was becoming a vegetable and wouldn't eat anymore.
It doesn't, my friend also have Aspergers and she doesn't like any violent games while I do. It all depends on the taste of someone, having autism doesn't affect this.Adsolution wrote:I highly doubt that your taste in games is a direct result of your Aspergers/ADHD.tuxdude143 wrote:It also means that I like different types of games that are actually GOOD as oposed to constantly shooting things.

Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
I know quite a few autistic people in real life. They all really like me for some reason.

Well considering that most of the 14 year olds around here play nothing but call of duty or halo apart from me then I think it may have an effect. Also I have a love of retro games as well. I collect the consoles.Adsolution wrote:I highly doubt that your taste in games is a direct result of having Aspergers/ADHD.tuxdude143 wrote:It also means that I like different types of games that are actually GOOD as oposed to constantly shooting things.

Hm, looks like the nons are currently the majority here.
@Zepto, no, as far as I'm aware of, I didn't take any medication, just the therapy and a yearly check.

Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
The only person I know in real life who falls under the spectrum is one of my friends, and he has pretty heavy Aspergers.
I love retro games as well, but I'm not autistic. I'd likely attribute it to being a coincidence. Besides, most modern shooters require much less attention and dedication than platformers and RPGs of the variety you mentioned, therefore by your logic, you should be playing more shooters than everyone else.tuxdude143 wrote:Well considering that most of the 14 year olds around here play nothing but call of duty or halo apart from me then I think it may have an effect. Non.
Those may be the majority of people, but not being like them is not a disease. Trust me, I have high social anxiety and have a different taste in just about everything then the people around me but no disease caused me to be like this.tuxdude143 wrote:Well considering that most of the 14 year olds around here play nothing but call of duty or halo apart from me then I think it may have an effect. Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
That's more a matter of personal taste than influence by disorder, I'd assume.
Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
One of the guys with aspergers I know is only interested in GTA, whereas the other with a more severe case prefers realistic games, but is still a fan of the like of rayman, Sonic, Jak etc

Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
Non, mon ami/amie.
At least, as far as I know. I've never been tested for autism or any of it's subsidiaries. I have on occasion wondered if I should get checked though. I'm 18 now though, so I suppose someone IRL would of noticed by now if I really had it.
I have an acquaintance who has very severe Asperger's though. Something that has happened to him recently that seemingly was because of his Asperger's makes me curious to know if other people with the condition have similarly bizarre scenarios happen to them.

Re: Is the Pirate-Community autistic?
Why the hell did the people from the autism building thing I was going to said that Tourrette Syndrome was autism.Adsolution wrote: I love retro games as well, but I'm not autistic.
It doesn't have any effect, I'm not a fan of Retro games very much and have the same thing as you. Halo is one of the games I love the most, but I don't like CoD though. I'm a big fan of Platformer and Adventure games, but I also like FPS and games like Assassin's Creed or Lucius.tuxdude143 wrote: Well considering that most of the 14 year olds around here play nothing but call of duty or halo apart from me then I think it may have an effect. I don't know if I am autistic. How can I make sure I am?
