Oh yeah, some of the concepts were kinda disturbing.

But they had potential, a darker, yet surreal feel.

Hm, I can't remember much, but I recall concept artwork showing a more savage Mickey, here's some beta stuff: http://www.unseen64.net/2009/09/28/epic ... i-concept/
I'll see if I can find an image of Evil Mickey concepts.

Both versions did include a return to Picture City though.Bionichute wrote:I think we've already established that the Phoenix Rayman 4 and Rayman Raving Rabbids were completely different games, so the atmospherically perfect Picture City wouldn't have been ruined at all.Keane wrote:However, looking at the artwork for their ideas makes me question how good the combination of the atmospherically perfect Picture City with a bunch of Rabbids screaming and running around would have been.
Also all of the concept art is amazing, especially Candy Ltd.
It's a shame but Spector certainly knew how to handle it well. The only problem really is that for a world that's completely broken down and ruined there's just a bit too many people who are a overly happy about things.Henchman1028 wrote:It was suppose to be even darker, but Disney told Warren Spector (Who also made the Deus Ex series (Except Human Revolution) and Thief series) to tone it down.Keane wrote:Yeah, Ad's game seems perfect. The closest game that I think comes to Pheonix's concept is Epic Mickey. It has the strange, dark, yet magical world that that art shows. It has plenty of seriousness in its story but not to the point where it's all doom and gloom. The platforming is clever and allows you to take in the atmosphere well. It's an absolutely charming game, with the only problems being the floaty jumping and bad camera. But seriously, if that game was Rayman 4 it would be a favourite among some of us here.

Can I get a confirmation on this?Keane wrote:Both versions did include a return to Picture City though.

Yeah I thought Origins and Phoneix's R4 were going to include a Picture City.
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
Both have artwork depicting the world. Pheonix's art includes an image of Rayman looking over the place. I'm too lazy to put it in my post.Bionichute wrote:Can I get a confirmation on this?Keane wrote:Both versions did include a return to Picture City though.

I'm pretty sure all of the concept art for Picture City was for Phoenix's Rayman 4, not RRR.

Those are awesome I admit.Master wrote:Hm, I can't remember much, but I recall concept artwork showing a more savage Mickey, here's some beta stuff: http://www.unseen64.net/2009/09/28/epic ... i-concept/

Getting back on topic. As I mentioned on my first post here, Michel Ancel said that a new 3D Rayman game was being planned, and that it may be based on the Raving Rabbids prototype, on this very site I believe. I doubt he would say that unless they were working on it, let alone on a Rayman fansite.

I think he mentioned it in an interview, but the point still stands, a new 3D Rayman game is probably in the works.
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I would be thrilled to see a new 3D game. Although the recent 2D games aren't bad, I think in order for the games to recover a really good story to imerse players is definitely making a 3D title. Have you noticed we don't have a canon 3D game for one decade?
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
You are right. How didn't I noticed that before? Time flies fast. I think that after UbiArt trilogy they should make 3D game so it wont get too repetitive. When they saw Crash Bandicoot was in 3D, they changed R2 to 3D after all. Although, I have this odd feeling that Ubisoft is trying to go Mario's footsteps and make Rayman into New Super Mario Bros series.

Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
Evidently, I don't mind Rayman attaining more popularity, heck, I'd love it if he became a top contender rivalling the likes of Mario, what I don't want, is for the series to lose its soul, each title has been distinct and brilliant in their own ways, there is some formula behind it, but it's flexible enough to deliver a varied experience overall, why start to fall into complete consistency now?
Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I don't think a new 2D game means it's getting repetitive. The franchise has proven that it's beautiful in both 2D and 3D. I believe it's a fifty-fifty on whether the next game will be 3D or 2D. Ubisoft seems to acknowledge that the long-time fans demand a new 3D game, but the 2D games have been very acclaimed in the more casual and not-really-a-big-Rayman-fan audience.

Re: Will there ever be a new 3D Rayman Game?
I've no major qualms with the 2D, not yet anyways, but I'd like that definitive difference to show again, Legends was a step up from Origins, yes, but, I can't say that it introduced a style of gameplay that gave it its own feel, it has a lot more in common with Origins than any other game in the series has had with each other to date.

I know what you are saying GN. Most of kids who played RO and RL did not played originals.

Hm, seeing as Ubi have been making recent rereleases of 2 and 3, I'd hope that they'd try those out too.
