Eugh. I hate FPSs in general, but especially CoD. Battlefield is better, but not much. Both games take themselves way too seriously, are ugly and too grey and brown, are full of meatheads, rednecks and brats who shouldn't be playing those games in the first place, and are really, really racist (Though that can be applied to most FPSs in general these days. Try finding a FPS in which you don't play as a generic white American and the Russians, Arabs and/or Chinese aren't the enemies these days).

Well don't try to limit the FPS genre to shitty war games. That's like saying 2D platformers as whole are bad because New Super Mario Bros. keeps getting milked. If your looking for some good games in the genre I'd highly recommend Halo, Singularity and of course Half-Life.

I'm talking about current FPSs. I know older ones are good, especially Deus Ex (Human Revolution is more like a stealth game, so I don't count it as a FPS).

Mass advertising, trust me on this one. A lot of lesser-known games tend to be much better than the highly-praised ones.

I like this trailer a lot. Hopefully Japanese will buy it. They would play Rayman over CoD and GTA thats for sure.

From what I've read the CoD franchise actually sells ridiculously good in Japan.

I knew GTA was selling good in Japan but not for CoD. I guess I never cared for series to ask them.
But still, Japanese prefer RPG's and Platformers over FPS and sandbox
Now for CoD, that is something I will investigate next time I go to Japan when I have money to do so.

Bioshock Infinite was mainly praised for it's artistic expression and story telling. Reception on the game mechanics was mixed, though.

The Last of Us was again praised for artistic expression and story telling, though most people quite like the game mechanics too, including the online multiplayer. It also has great visuals, and the voice acting is perfect from what I've seen.

I plan to play the Bioshock series sometime, so I'll get to Infinite.

As for The Last of Us, I actually really want that. I love anything made by Naughty Dog, you can't really go wrong with them. I loved their Crash games, I am quite liking Jak & Daxter so far, and I played through the Uncharted games earlier this year and absolutely adored them.

Honestly, just because a game is mass marketed or praised, doesn't mean it's a sell out. There is no need to be hipsters and avoid every AAA title, just because things like CoD and GTA might be lacking. Some AAA titles deserve the praise they get.

Uhh, TF2...

The Halo series is nothing of that, its completely sci-fi with aliens and has an amazing story. And I'm not talking about the regular green alien with big black eyes. I don't recall hearing anything racist in it either and its humans fighting for their survival in space and the character you are is the last hope of humanity. Its completely different from any FPS I have ever played. As for online, you wont meet too much of these children that shouldn't even play these games, in 5 years, me and my brother only met one. Its only on xbox tough.

Aliens aren't much better than the usual enemies in FPSs, but at least they usually have cool weapons and tech. You still play as a generic white American in most Sci-Fi games, though.

In Halo you play as a black guy with actually character.

And as much as WW2 shooters were saturating the FPS genre last gen like America vs Russia/Terrorists this gen, I kind of miss WW2 shooters.
