I consider him an Ubisoft character.

How is Rayman a 'PlayStation character'? Virtually all his games have appeared on almost every platform available, and he's never had a PlayStation exclusive or any special treatment from Sony.

I said I consider him in my book as a PS character. I never stated that it is a fact. I consider him as a PS character because of Nostalgia and because I played him on PlayStation 1 first

Usually there's some kind of actual reasoning behind these things. That's like saying that you consider the bow and arrow to be an Asian invention because that's where you first learned about it, even though it was developed simultaneously in many different, separate cultures.

Rayman is the only third party character I'd care to see in Smash Bros. other than Snake, Sonic, and Mega Man. It'd be a dream come true actually, though I know how unlikely he is... Well, one can dream, Ubi and Nintendo have been on pretty good terms what with them being one of the only third party devs actually making games for the Wii U. He'd fit right in as well, and be quite a unique character to boot. I thought up a pretty thorough moveset for him too.

Rayman 1 was initially for the SNES, let's no forget, then moved to the Jaguar, then made for Saturn, PC and PS1. In my book, he's his own thing, who often ends up affiliated with other manufacturers due to consistency on Ubi's part.

Speaking of that SNES prototype, I would love a ROM to get leaked.

For curiosities sake, yes. But it's good that it's not the final thing.

It looked cool in my opinion, plus CO-OP :D
SNES version would be cool if finished and looked like screenshots while PS1 and other versions looked like they do now.

Hm, to each their own, the game shown in those screenshots looks ugly and trite.

It was probably a good thing the SNES version was dropped considering the number of platformers in the mid 90's that were just dire.

Only thing that looks ugly to me are models of two Raymen. Other then that, it looked ok. But I must say, the Rayman 1 on Jaguar, Saturn, PS1 and PC has much better design and atmosphere. SNES screenshots had everything too much generic for my taste. But still, I still think it should have been released for SNES like that and also released for other consoles with design we all know.

I humbly disagree wholeheartedly, the SNES version has ugly Raymen and the environments look very generic compared to the final product, to have the SNES Rayman would be nothing more than a horrible smudge on Rayman's legacy, it doesn't seem to have anything which made the final product unique and its own thing.

I agree with Master. The SNES Rayman prototype looks awful.

I think most people say this due to most people growing up with the PS1 version of Rayman 1, a lot of people consider him a 'playstation character'.
Despite the fact R1 was on many other systems/handhelds, most people grew up playing the PS1 version.

While that may be so, I'd have thought members here would be aware of how Rayman 1 actually was on platforms aplenty.

Very well said! Well I believe that in the markets back those days, Rayman 1 was sure also on other platforms available (e.g. Saturn/PC), so the people could clearly see Rayman wasn't only for PlayStation. I myself grew up with the PC version.

I grew up with the PC version as well. I don't regret it either, as that PC-exclusive area.of Bongo Hills is my favourite scene in all of video gaming.

@Rayfist: This is absolutely true. However, I don't believe that it's correct to view his belonging as counteracts simply because it counteracts readily-available fact.
