Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Okay, I may be new but I've been planning this game since before I joined. Introducing the new Rayman fangame...
Rayman: Nightmare Shadows!
[Main pic coming soon.]
Plot
One calm, peaceful day, as Rayman lies helpless in a deep state of sleep, all is well in the Glade of Dreams. Suddenly, however, Mr. Dark suddenly appears out of nowhere and unleashes millions of infernal contraptions upon the world. Then, he places odd gadgets called Nightmare Generators all over the Glade to convert the Glade of Dreams into a Glade of Nightmares! If things couldn't get any worse, he then sends out robots to capture Rayman and friends, which they successfully do, and he releases a giant robot to pump out nightmares constantly to completely make sure that the Glade never reverts from it's new nightmarish state ever again. With our heroes captured, it seems all hope is lost for the Glade of Dreams, but it isn't! It's time for a brand-spanking new, exciting adventure through the Glade of Dreams to defeat the nightmares and Mr. Dark, banish all evil from the Glade forever and save the world in Rayman: Nightmare Shadows!
Levels (Planned levels right now)
Tutorial level: The Dungeons - Mr. Dark's favourite place to throw prisoners. It's guarded by Lividstones, so it's unlikely for a prisoner to escape. Rayman is aided by Murfy here, who will teach him basic stuff. Again.
Level One: Clearleaf Council - One of the three most famous councils in the Glade. Rayman must follow a dangerous jungle path to find the King Minimus.
Level Two: Band Land: The Reprise - The old Band Land was destroyed when Mr. Dark took over the Valley and made it into his kingdom. This new one is still being built by the Shrink Fairies. This is where Rayman can find King Shrinkimus, a valuable ally that may be of tremendous assistance.
Level Three: Mount Never-rest - A giant volcano that seems to always be active. The Inferney Tribe lives here, though their villages are constantly attacked by Lividstones, Hoodlums and sometimes even Stone Men or Lava Eels!
Level Four: Hoodlum Hideout - The reason why there are so many Hoodlums at the top of Mount Never-rest. Try not to fall into the X-tra Spicy Plum Pits! Here Rayman will find Bzzit, who is being used as a slave to find plums to make plum juice, but a certain black lum is awaiting with a brand new toy...
Level Five: Infernal Council - A long fall underground leads Rayman straight into the Infernal Council, another one of the most famous councils in the Glade. It's usually a non-stop party here and the Fire Minimus's birthday party is being planned for tomorrow, but when the Fire Minimus himself gets kidnapped by an evil Chili Golem, Rayman must fight Lava Eels, Chili Guards and Stone Men to reach the surface again and continue his journey!
Level Six: Land of the Livid Dead - Above the Infernal Council is the cooler (but still pretty hot) Land of the Livid Dead. Here, Rayman will have to fight through endless armies of the undead to get to the surface, but Death himself is the final obstacle and could easily trap Rayman here forever!
Level Seven: The Tunnels of the Knaaren - Now you're getting closer to the surface! This is just the last stop before you get there, and boy is it one heck of a challenge. You'll have to defeat Hoodlums which are trying to invade the tunnels whilst creeping past the Knaarens that own them! Along the way, you'll also have to slide down slippery slopes, avoid dangerous obstacles such as superheated slabs and defeat an old enemy who was thought to be dead: Reflux, who's bent on invading the tunnels with his own army of nightmares and Hoodlums!
Level Eight: The Fairy Glade - Ah, this brings back memories to when the Robo-Pirates invaded. Rayman will also have to go through a familiar situation and save Ly from a prison. Then, he will have to fight his way through Lividstones, Robo-Pirates and Hunters!
Level Nine: The Silver Beard - Rayman is close to the end of his journey. But first, he must save his friend Globox, his children and Clark and escape from The Silver Beard, a huge, flying, robotic pirate ship! However, this might not be as easy as it sounds when he meets up with yet another old enemy of his...
Level Ten: Nightmare Mountain - This is it! The final stretch! You're back in The Valley for one last fight and all that stands between Rayman and Mr. Dark now is an enormous climb, a load of enemies and an enormous gap which may require the help of Bzzit to get over. Onwards!
Level Eleven: Mr. Dark's Castle - The castle of Mr. Dark. The final destination of Rayman's journey. Defense systems, millions of enemies and Mr. Dark are waiting for Rayman here. It's time to free the Glade of nightmares once and for all!
Level Twelve: ??? - ???

Characters
Good Guys
Rayman
The famous hero we all love. He's battled loads of vastly different enemies in previous games, from the master sorcerer we know as Mr. Dark, to a short-tempered robot captain to a bunch of rabbits we'd love to forget! This time, he's back to save the Glade of Dreams from turning into a Glade of Nightmares in this all new adventure starring three of his past foes.
Globox
The lovable goofball who acts as the hero's best friend. You first meet him trapped in the Clearleaf Council and he follows along for most of the adventure until he goes missing during the final events at the Hoodlum Hideout. You meet him again in The Silver Beard, having been captured by the Robo-pirates as well as his children and Clark the Giant. When you meet him the second time, he gives you the power to crouch! Also, when you free his babies, they temporarily give you the ability to rain dance, which replaces the grimace.
Murfy
They call him the flying encyclopedia. When you first meet up with him in The Dungeons, he is a bit grumpy because he was captured by the Nightmare Army and he was assigned the job of being Rayman's personal living manual - AGAIN! So, don't get angry at him for his sarcastic-ness; get angry at the Nightmare Army and the developers!
Ly
A legendary warrior that everyone has heard about but only few have actually seen. It is claimed that her power is infinite and her bravery more so. However, that doesn't stop her from being captured by the Nightmare Army. You meet her in a clearing in the Fairy Glade and must free her by hitting all three switches in the area and destroying the machine keeping her trapped so you can get an amazing new power... the power to hang!
Polokus
The god of all gods, the dreamer of all dreams, the creator of all creations. Polokus is considered by many people to be simply a myth but many more know that he is real. He watches over Rayman as he continues through his adventure, sending aid when aid is needed. He cannot do much more than that, though, for the ever-spreading nightmares have weakened him so much he can only do the smallest of things to help. This changes near the end of Rayman's adventure, however, as he grants our hero a helpful power for the final fight - the power to fly!
Bzzit
An old friend from when Rayman was younger. This humble moskito is always ready to help Rayman on his journeys, whether it's a case of flying him somewhere or just giving a piece of friendly advice. You can find him trapped in a cage in the Hoodlum Hideout - specifically, you can find him in the Plum Juice Factory. When you free him, he helps you get to the Training Room and gives you the power of the Helicopter.
King Minimus
One of the four Grand Minimuses, although only two appear in this game (this guy and the Fire Minimus.) At the end of the tutorial, Murfy urges you to find King Minimus as he is thought to be of assistance and indeed he is. After all, he does prove pretty useful when he gives you the power to charge your fist, tells you about another helpful guy whilst opening up a portal to him and protects you from enemies when you go off on the way to the portal.
Fire Minimus
One of the four Grand Minimuses, although only two appear in this game (this guy and the King Minimus.) Near the end of the Infernal Council, you have to defeat the Chili Golem in order to free him and in reward he will give you the power to climb.
Clark
The stone-crushing, cliff-creating, mountain-forging giant we all remember from Rayman 2. Just like Globox and his kids, he ends up captured by the robo-pirates after eating one too many robot parts for him to handle. You can find him in The Silver Beard, where you have to free him in order to be given a new power: the power to charge your fist for longer!
~More Soon!~
Jobs! Looking For:

Will this game use Rayman 1 sprites? If you want to, I can send some sprites and backgrounds for you
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Very interesting plot you got there.

Well, actually, yes! Most of the game will be 3D but there will be a part where some sprites will come in handy.

Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Not to be rude, but do you have any of the physical aspects planned out? Such as engine and coding? Stuff you'll need if you want to get this game made? I love a good concept as much as the next person, but there's no point in making threads about fangames if you can't even make it.

Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
I agree with Master here, if you plan on making a 3D Rayman game, you need some people to help you with the models, textures, level design, and more to help you to possibly make a nice game. I advise you to use CryEngine and ask people who are willing to help you. I rather think this plot could be better suited for a 2D game if I were you. If you want to make a 2D game, find a Rayman engine on Game maker and I would be gladly to assist you in a 2D Rayman game if you want someone to help you.
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Hmm... okay. I've already got Game Maker anyway, so I've got one step sorted.

Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Unless you're a novice, I'd strongly advise against GameMaker. If you are a novice, I'd suggest using GameMaker to understand some of the logistic basics of game development, and then move to something a little better.
There's no denying that GameMaker can produce impressive results for what it is, but it's incredibly inefficient to use beyond a certain, relatively simple point.

Ok good, make sure you didn't download the lite version because you are limited for making the game.lumgum wrote:Hmm... okay. I've already got Game Maker anyway, so I've got one step sorted.
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Gamemaker Studio 1.2. Is that good?

Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
I haven't used Game maker Studio but yeah that is good since I checked it
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Okay, I decided the old plot would be really hard to create in 2D, which is why I have now switched to a simpler plot which involves less new sprites and will be easier to create in 2D. You can read it in the first post!
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Update! Added a new plot to the main post as well as the current planned levels!
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
If you are going to use GM, make the engine yourself. It will make you feel better and understand everything that's happening with the code.
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Awright! So, I've created the main plot for the tutorial level and added it to the main post. Also, I have added a 'Jobs' section, full of jobs I want to recruit people to do! So, if you wanna help out on this game, step right up and say what you wanna do and you'll be added to my list of possible helpers! Currently, I am looking for musicians (for the game's soundtrack) and character designers (to give designs for possible characters that may be included in the game.)
Re: Rayman: Nightmare Shadows
Wow, nice story bro! I'd love to help but i have 0% experience in programming.
I made a logo for you, idk if you will like it, anyways i am not offended if you don't want to use it.
