He does all the same animations as the other versions, there's just no voice.

I'm almost certain, though I may be wrong.
Despite of having completed Rayman Advance just once, I also do not remember Rayman having voice in it. Aside of it it was pretty identical to PC. My memory might be wrong though.

The Hansel & Gretel imagery is pretty obvious now that you mention it. It's probably what inspired the developers.
Because, in the tale it is two kids wandering around in a forest, and in Rayman is Rayman wandering around the Glade. Then the kids find a house made of sweets and start eating it, while Rayman finds Candy Chateau and explores the place. After, the kids find a witch, that detained it and attempts to make them out of a meal. Rayman found Mr. Dark and he tried to kill him. It isn't exactly equal but there are close similarities that always made me remember about this fairy tale.

One thing I've always wondered is...what the hell happened to mr.Dark? He was awesome! And did his job of a villain well by being the biggest troll in video game history.
Even though this theory is highly unlikley, heres what I think happened to mr.dark:

-The ending credits play-
SEE YOU SOON....AS A CAMEO IN RAYMAN ORIGINS.....

and so Mr.Dark took a break from evil and decided to just take a vacation with his old pal.....er.....Andy the antitoon ._.

He was told by Ubisoft he would star in the next Rayman game, Rayman origins! But he though that game was too wacky for him so he got a fanboy to do the job!
And He lived happily ever after....except any the antitoon, he kinda died in rayman 2.....

There are no evidences that he did die, so the wonders of what happened/where is he are unknown.

The only possible way he did die is at the final boss when he transformed into the Moskito/Mr.Sax/Space Mama monster, and rayman killed him, though that monster could be a seperate enemy like Bad Rayman.
Even if Mr.Dark was the monsters, the jaguar credits have mr.Dark saying "See you soon" Instead of rayman saying it...

It still bugs me how he never appears in another rayman game :L
The onlt villain that survives this is razorbeard, who has been in multiple spin-offs, yet Mr.Dark, A better villian, only gets mentioned in Rayman origins... :(
Oh well, Ubisoft may never bring back Mr.dark.

A better villain? I'm not so sure about that. Mr. Dark looks like he could be villain because, let's be honest, guys dressed in black with hats are fucking cool, but he doesn't have much personality. We don't know if he's a character along the lines of Razorbeard or very serious or anything. He's just a bad guy. With Razorbeard his goals are clearer and we know how he acts. Hell, technically seen Andre is the best Rayman villain.

Look, as much as I love Rayman 1, I really don't see why everyone loves Mr Dark so much. His design is pretty cool, but he doesn't seem very inspired to me. Why did he steal the Great Protoon? Why were the electoons locked up? It's never explained, but I guess we can assume that Mr Dark wanted the Protoon because it gave him power or something. And the name, Mr Dark? I mean, come on! Unless perhaps no-one knows his real name, and the people of the Valley/Glade nicknamed him that themselves, which would actually be a pretty cool little piece of story.

Mr. Sax will forever be funny to me since the day I misread it as Mr. Sex.

I wanted to make a joke about Rule 34 but my mind is going to temporarily breakdown over the concept of Mr. Sax combined with pornography.

And thus, the Rayman fanbase collapsed as many wept and fled such a horrific sight.
