Tried SatAM, bored the crap outta me. Sonic X in Japanese is the way to go for a srs Sonic animation.

I think AoStH was way more than that. It was a show that literally embraced the possibilities of animation. Not everything has to be refined and pristine to be enjoyable. And the robots looking like doodles is intentional. Everything in the show looks like something from a doodle book.

A bit off-topic, but THANK YOU!!! I've never saw the appeal in SatAM.

Shitty animation = Intended? Sorry but considering how incredibly nonsensical the humour is and how little effort there is altogether in just fucking anything from voice acting to interesting characters to some sort of world that can be looked into, I really, really doubt that anyone behind this show wanted to make something artsy while cashing in on kids through the use of a popular figure. And hey, let that artsy look also just happen to be so easy to draw that you could pull any ol' bugger from the street and tell them to create the craft that is... random lines and shapes... yeah...! Calling bad animation a "style" is a most common excuse and Adventures here is the king of it. Here:

Image
Beautiful isn't it? That's my artistic style!

Sat AM has a good set of characters, created this whole interesting world, made Eggman fucking awesome and put real work into really making it a presentable show. If I had been around during that period of time I'm pretty that despite not really being a Sonic fan I'd have loved that shit. Even if you don't like it, which is fine, there's still no denying that it tried millions times better. As in, they actually wrote things that they thought would make a good show rather then, well, let Mr. Critic sum up the bullshit of it's supposedly funny jokes:

I found Robotnik's AoStH voice always best. As for jokes, I think everyone found "SnooPINGAS usual I see?" funny

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone talking about a show as if you've watched the whole thing, when you've only seen a few - I've only watched the first 4 or 5 episodes. But at the same time, a good show should have something to interest me from the start, and hold onto my attention from there. I watched the first episode of SatAM, and liked it, but after a few more, I literally stopped mid-episode, it was that boring. This is something I rarely do.

AoStH at least is something that doesn't expect me to invest too much time and attention into it. It's the kind of show where you either love it or hate it, and you know from the very first episode you watch. SatAM is more like the kind of show where fans will say "OH, IT GETS BETTER" when you say you don't like what you've seen so far, while fans of AoStH can just say "the whole thing is fucking hilariously stupid and I love it".

I know they are totally different shows, but here's the thing - SatAM has a lot of flaws because it is trying to do something much more complex than AoStH, and was totally unfitting as a Saturday morning cartoon. AoStH hasn't got a lot of real flaws, because all it ever aimed to be was a stupid, nonsensical rollercoaster of a show that perfectly fits what a Saturday morning cartoon is - just something quick, simple, and easy to understand that kids can watch, and be entertained by. It's actually kind of sad that SatAM was made a Saturday morning cartoon. It was clearly trying to be so much more.

Anyway, to segway into something more on topic - SatAM is actually part of the reason why I don't want a 70-plus episode, anime-esque show based on Rayman 2. It just wouldn't work out well. If Rayman was ever to get a cartoon, it's going to end up being slotted as something you watch on a kid's channel on a Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon, not something you'll find on the Sci-Fi Channel at 8 o' clock in the evening. It's not likely it will have the audience for a deeper, more cinematic plot.

That's why my idea implements Rayman 2 so late - if you establish story elements and plot points from the very beginning, and make sure the show progresses, while staying light hearted, you can make the plot get deeper gradually. This hooks the audience, and eases them into the world.

Hm, I recall seeing very tiny tidbits of it, all I can remember was that Gary Chalk voiced Robotnik in there.

AoSTH is literally the Roadrunner and Coyote shorts with robots and a fat man voiced by a blues singer. There's really nothing to hate in any sort of meaningful way. In my opinion, every other Sonic cartoon was a piece of shit compared to it.

AoSth knew it was silly and stupid, so it had fun with it. Like Dennis Hopper in the Super Mario Bros movie or Raúl Juliá in the Street Fighter movie.

I dunno man. Satam was good. Underground sucked I agree. Those are all Sonic cartoons I think
Now Sonic X is Anime and Japanese version was ok but Chris sucked. American version was terrible.

I see him as a completely humorless deadpan snarker whose great amount of power makes him a respectable, serious and sinister villain. If there was a Rayman cartoon, I'd say he will form a team with DarkRay and Ales, but their teamwork and chemistry would be absolutely terrible. Mr. Dark would be extremely difficult for them to impress. When they succeed at something, Mr. Dark would just go "Yeah whatever". When they fail, he would stay calm, but definitely with a disappointed face. Just how I envision it.
I can totally envision Mister Dark as LH, but it's something most members won't agree with. There can be possibilities on Mister Dark's true personality, because he never had one. One thing I do like is the idea of Mister Dark, Ales, and DarkRay working together.

Mr. Dark could be like Mezmaron - A main villain from good Pac-Man cartoon.

Chris "sucked" only in the first two seasons, but it was intentional - his whole story is about him overcoming his need for others and learning to turn his loneliness into strength, as well as dealing with the theme of obsession (because Chris becomes absolutely obsessed with Sonic by the end of the second series, to the point where he kidnaps Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds to prevent him from going back to his own world. As he puts it, he wants to be with Sonic forever).

In the third series, Chris' obsessive nature is completely gone, and his internal conflict is about how much he has actually grown mentally, as he gets used to having a young boy's body again, while simultaneously noticing that Sonic and friends don't treat him any differently despite the fact he has matured. He also deals with a bit of homesickness, which is really interesting, because before the third series, he implied he didn't care about his family and friends as long as he could be with Sonic. Overall though, he is a really competent character in the third series, and is a great partner for Tails. Chris rarely needs saving in the third series, and actually takes on some risky operations by himself.

I think people really under appreciate Chris' character, mainly because the 4Kids dub completely dumbed down his charcater, and made him seem like a whiny brat in the first two seasons, and an insignificant side character in the third.

Another reason why I love Chris' development in the Japanese version is because it provides a more realistic, darker take on the tried and true "what if magical, fictional characters came into the life of a young, naive child?" formula. It also sets the stage for one of the most mature moments from Sonic himself. I love the scene where Sonic convinces Chris that he shouldn't hang onto him so much. It's so sincere and straight to the point.

I liked Satam, I found it to be quite compelling. It was actually one of my favourite cartoons at the time.

Adventures on the other hand was just an incoherent mess of shit, lacking all the charm that both the Roadrunner and Coyote shorts possessed. It was noisy, the voice acting was beyond irritating, and I barely had any idea what was going on one-hundred percent of the time.

Honestly, the fact I don't understand AoStH the whole time is part of it's beauty, to me. It's pure ecstasy.

Some aspects of it certainly have ingrained themselves onto the internet, I used to watch some episodes when I was younger on YouTube, though I can't recall if I found them entertaining or not.

@Sonic
I must admit Chris was much better in season 3, but that leads to my next problem with Sonic X. I hated season 3.
I did not like the plot (ripping-off the Star Wars? Really?), I hated Metarex, I hated Cosmo, I hate Tails/Cosmo pairing way more than Sonic/Amy. Chris was my least hated Sonic X exclusive character in season 3. With such a bad ending (in my opinion), I am not surprised that season 4 was never made.

I think it would work excellently, as it would provide a chance to explore the game's interesting universe, expand upon some characters we only get to see very briefly, have amazing action scenes (just think of the fights against the Guardians), some surreal humour, beautiful artistry, and a grand journey, and that unmatched sense of mysticism conveyed through such scenes as the first encounter with Polokus.

Whooh, getting shivers here.
This would feel like a true dream, Ad. :D

No, really. This is something I would have loved to be done.
