They will never do something like that. They know how fans reacted when Rayman was in Rabbids series. They would not repeat same mistake. On the other hand, that certain "other" company can go bankrupt for all I care.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's entirely possible Rayman could meet a similar fate to Mega Man.

Yves Guillemot made a statement around the time of E3 expressing that Ubisoft are only interested in games that they can continue to publish as franchises, in order to make large profits. This is why we never see once-off titles from them anymore. This is why we have an Assassin's Creed title every year. And it's also why they are pushing Watch Dogs like crazy, as it has potential to be given multiple sequels.

If sales for Rayman games don't yield much of a profit, then given their mindset, and how they have put the franchise on hiatus in the past, and with Ancel eager to work on BG&E 2, it's entirely possible Rayman could be left to die if the sales of the games are not up to snuff.

Granted, it would be an awful shame, as Rayman made Ubisoft the company it is today.

Aw man :(
Please let that not happen. Rayman is one of the rare clasisc Platformer characters to be allive today and still have good games. If Ubi wont continiue making games, they should just sell the rights to Nintendo or Sony.

If Rayman 3D wasn't a launch title, I think the game would ATLEAST have some of the things revolution had, and have better graphics as shown in the screenshots.
Though what bugs me that those screenshots could just be screenshots from another port of rayman 2 such as the DC version.
Now THAT would be lazy....
And I also don't see the point of making rayman 2 for the DS.
The only ports (if you even call them ports), I REALLY want the 2D version of Rayman 2, IMO, It had so much potential, It could be called something different like "Rayman 2 DX" or "Rayman: Return of space robots" or something that fits its Half-Childish and Half-Dark atmosphere. Call me dilusional, but I'd rather have The cancelled Rayman 2 than a brand new Rayman game thats 3D or 2D, Reason is I really miss that atmosphere Rayman 1 had ._.

Oh wait this is the Rayman Legends topic......FFF-

Publicity also makes an important role for the sellings. Sadly Ubisoft does a really poor effort in Portugal and I think that reflects in the sellings of their titles. I do believe that with a cautious planning of divulgation it would help improving the sellings.

Indeed, I don't think I've seen any adverts for Legends on TV, all I see are Skylanders.
Funny too, Origins had the magnificent Brain Blessed to tell us all about it.

We never have video game adverts on TV here. The only two I ever recall seeing were the ads for Super Mario Advance and Sunshine, way back in 2001.

I think the Luigi's Mansion 2 ad appeared a few times here. Nintendo seems to often advertise in the cinema though. I've seen ads for Galaxy, the 3DS, Wii U and Pokemon there.

You know? just because you can ignore them doesn't mean that they aren't still a cheap trial from Ubisoft to keep milking the same game.
So? They're basically allowing more people to play the game if they want. What's wrong with that? Oh yeah, they're earning money. That makes it wrong.

That makes it wrong, because it seems they care only about money, that's why most of the ports are in shit quality ( like Rayman DS or the 3DS ), but also, i saw many people wanted it optimized for the retina displays on iOS, and they did not fucking do anything. Sure, more people are able to play it, but you can guess what is the reason behind Ubisoft porting the game to almost every fucking platform in existence, and why are some of these ports a piece of shit ( referring to above examples ).

Making a port with no extra bells and whistles is perfectly fine and acceptable. As you said, they're just allowing more people to play the game.

It's even better if they do throw in a few refinements and extra features. We aren't entitled to that, though, so we're lucky to get that at all.

Making a port that has technical issues and is just all around inferior to the original is not OK, as it gives people who buy the inferior version the wrong impression (because if a more recent revision is bad, why should people think an older version would be better?). And in the case of iOS Rayman 2.....seriously, who thought that would be a good idea? Yes, I've tried it, and it controls terribly. This is coming from someone who is capable of speed running Sonic games and Megaman X on an iPhone 3GS and still enjoy it, so I actually have quite a bit of tolerance for virtual control pads.

Doing the latter, ON TOP of naming the port like a new game altogether (Rayman DS, Rayman 3D), is just cheap. I can't defend that at all, it's terrible practice. Sure, every company wants to make money, but there is a difference between making an honest profit through making a solid product and marketing it well, and making something half-arsed and pulling cheap tactics to get it to sell. Sure, the latter works, and does make money, but if we don't speak up against crap like that, the industry gets plagued with half-arsed products.

So making money isn't what makes the Rayman 2 ports detestable, sans Revolution (which actually had effort put into it). It's just the manner in which they go about it.

I agree on calling the ports brand new names, because when I saw Rayman 3D in shops, I didn't expect it to be Rayman 2, I thought it was an entirely brand new rayman game (Before you start calling me noob, this was the first rayman game I bought and played for the first time, besides Rayman 1 which was my cousins and that was like 7 years ago).
I then looked up the soundtrack, I found out that it turns out to be rayman 2, a game ported to everything! I have heard of rayman 2 before I got Rayman 3D, but I didn't see any gameplay or anything, just images.
The Cover art wasn't the same as the usual rayman running away from an explosion, because I like in the UK, the cover was rayman holding a lum, making the game even MORE misleading.

So I have been having a problem regarding my prize from Beyond Gaming - Ireland isn't available as a country in the drop-down menu.

It's been three days since the Showdown ended, and 2 days since I was told something would be done, but I haven't heard back from them since. So I just decided to send a request into the Support Center. Hopefully they get back to me soon. A consolation prize would at least be nice, like $200 worth of Steam or PSN or Nintendo eShop voucher codes, or something. :s

The only covers apart from the 3DS version that have Rayman holding the Lum are the Dreamcast ones and the USA Playstation cover. So it's only used just as much as the explosion one. :)

EDIT -> Ah, ninja'd.
EDIT 2 -> Looks like we forgot this one as well.

Ancel is correct, but the great thing about Nintendo is, they know their desire to innovate is a weakness (Iwata himself said so), and they thankfully shield that weak spot miles better than the weak spot of a boss in a 3D Mario platformer. Microsoft and Sony (but mostly Microsoft) are not willing to admit to their weaknesses so quickly, and therefore, are usually at more risk.

Besides, they have enough money in their bank reserves to make it to 2050 without making a profit, and still spend at their current rate, before going bankrupt. So they have nothing to worry about. Heck, in the last quarter of the year, Nintendo sold the Wii U at a loss, and STILL managed to turn an overall profit for that quarter.

EDIT: Aaaaah, Nintendo....the "Wii U" name is coming back to bite you in the butt, huh? :P

I actually thought it was a port of Rayman 3, not 2, until I played it. I wish it was Rayman 3, though.

Personally, I have much more faith in Ubisoft than that. I doubt Ancel will let his creation die without a fight.
