If Ubi wanted to stop making Rayman games, I would not be surprised if Ancel left company along with Rayman rights.

Yves Guillemot made a statement around the time of E3 expressing that Ubisoft are only interested in games that they can continue to publish as franchises, in order to make large profits. This is why we never see once-off titles from them anymore. This is why we have an Assassin's Creed title every year. And it's also why they are pushing Watch Dogs like crazy, as it has potential to be given multiple sequels.

If sales for Rayman games don't yield much of a profit, then given their mindset, and how they have put the franchise on hiatus in the past, and with Ancel eager to work on BG&E 2, it's entirely possible Rayman could be left to die if the sales of the games are not up to snuff.

Granted, it would be an awful shame, as Rayman made Ubisoft the company it is today.
Personally, I have much more faith in Ubisoft than that. I doubt Ancel will let his creation die without a fight.
Yeah, Keiji Inafune put up a fight too, but lost. Though Mighty No. 9 and Capcom's debt is a sort of victory for him.

Still, things aren't as simple as Ancel being able to put up a fight. Remember, Ancel actually was directly involved in the "#FreeRayman" campaign back in February, yet Legends still got delayed.

Personally I see them either put out a third 2D platformer or a long a silence once more. I don't believe there's gonna be a 3D platformer again.

Agree. Sadly I am afraid of long silence. Please don't Ubi.

Don't worry, there will be a 3D platformer eventually, just not soon. Expect at least one more 2D game, and possibly a long silence too.

Anyway, I actually passed 2 million lums in Rayman Legends today.

I'd like one more game before a hiatus.

If only these ports were provided as part of some kind of free market system, where those who want to play them could exchange money for them and those who don't could simply carry on with their lives. Oh well. Maybe one day our society will reach that utopian stage where purchasing products is optional. Until then we can do nothing but rage bitterly against the widespread availability of a classic game for a modern audience.
You know? just because you can ignore them doesn't mean that they aren't still a cheap trial from Ubisoft to keep milking the same game.
So? They're basically allowing more people to play the game if they want. What's wrong with that? Oh yeah, they're earning money. That makes it wrong.
Actually, yes. It is wrong. It is wrong to charge $30 for a cheap remake of a 90's game for every console that is released. You moron.

I personally doubt rayman legends will fail, it had so much hype for it....and some hate due to the delay BUT STILL.
It will rise in sales, and quite big too! Even If legends doesn't do too well, Ubisoft could always release spin off titles, similar to Rayman M and.....Ugh....Anything that doesn't involve those raping rabbids....

But one thing is that Ubi will surprise us, just like the rayman origins reveal, and how rayman finally got HIS OWN GAME IN LIKE 28972974347581 YEARS!!!!
Though if you think about, it is possible that they're running out of ideas for rayman, which could possibly lead to a silence, and although may be untrue, could of been the result of rayman raving rabbids, they ran out of ideas....

Or they could make another tonic trouble game >:I

Mario didn't run out of ideas for all these years and is making awesome new games always, so I doubt Rayman would run out of ideas.
As for RL, I am seriously doubting will sales rise because of other upcomming games.

I sincerely doubt it, both Rayman 1 and 2 left some threads hanging that could easily make good story for a new Rayman game, for instance.

I think it's better for one. The developers can use that time to get some new ideas, add new things to the Rayman franchise.

They made the game. They can charge whatever the hell they want for it. No one has to buy it.

@Sergio I could have avoided the purchase if I liked, but I decided to buy it as a personal option but I obviously wouldn't adquire a badly executed port for the same price they were charging for the original thing in the European release. I gave 18€ for a sealed copy through eBay.

That's not Ubi's fault if people can't control their own compulsions over their capability for rational thought.

I hope they port Rayman 3 to the 3DS and charge $100,000 for it so you have to mortgage your house.

Nope.

We are living in an age where we get cheap deals on Steam, PSN, and the Nintendo eShop out the ass. Selling a bad port of a game, making it seem like a new game, or at least something that is heavily reworked, and then selling it at full price, is stupid, and cannot be defended. Especially when there are other ports on the market (GOG PC version of Rayman 2), that are an awful lot better, and sell for a much cheaper price. You cannot say Ubisoft can sell Rayman 3DS at the price they did and say it was OK. Heck, if I'm not mistaken, couldn't you pre-order Rayman Legends on Steam for twenty odd-dollars, and get the GOG PC version of Rayman 2, AND Rayman Origins completely free?

If you want to be really raw about this, then of course any company can sell any product at any price. People sell tatty pieces of cardboard for thousands of dollars on eBay. Doesn't mean anybody buys them, because economics is a thing. This applies ten fold in the gaming industry (or any industry really). Again, the way they sold the DS and 3DS versions of Rayman 2 was inexcusable when they were selling superior ports at lower prices, and were straight up about the fact they were just ports, unlike the DS and 3DS versions. Heck, the 3DS is backwards compatible, so making a new 3DS port that didn't do anything for the game was completely pointless, when people could get the DS version if they wanted to play Rayman 2 on their 3DS.

If everyone took the attitude of "well they made it, so they can do what they want", then the Xbox One would still have all of the DRM crap it was going to have. Sometimes consumers need to criticise, it's a form of tough love.
