Re: Favorite Game Console
That's a bit of a tough one. If I had to chose some of my favorites, they would have to be the SNES, Genesis, GameCube, N64, Wii, and PS3.

Re: Favorite Game Console
my favorite? either the PS2 or 3DS. I think that PS4 may top both.
Re: Favorite Game Console
The Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis were fantastic consoles, not to mention one of the closet battles for dominance in the gaming industry. I would say I like the SNES a tad better though <cough> Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X series, Super Metroid <cough>. To add, the Genesis almost always seemed to get the best version of multiplatform games for some reason as well despite being the weaker console hardware-wise with the exception of its main processor. The Genesis had titles like the Sonic The Hedgehog and Vectorman series, Ristar, some of the best games made by Treasure, as well as some of the best Disney titles made to date. In terms of the game library, the SNES and Genesis all come down to what your preference is, with the exception of RPGs, SNES excels many times over the Genesis in this regard.SegaNintendoUbisoft wrote: SNES, Genesis,

Sega Genesis. It was such a big part of my life and I just love the iconic way that it looks and sounds.

Re: Favorite Game Console
Wow, so many replies already! O_o Also, the Nintendo 64 is a pretty beast console, and it also has my favorite game of all time, but I generally prefer the games on PlayStation consoles, myself. Probably my third-favorite after the PS2 and BC PS3.
The lack of PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility (esp. PS1) is pretty unforgivable, since there are already working emulators for the PC, and therefore should exist on the PS4. But it will be hacked anyway, I guess.
It's common knowledge at this point that the PS4 will only be BC through Internet streaming, and will have no native capabilities built-in. Expect more HD collections.emshomar wrote:Classic Era: PS2

Handhelds: 3DS (but only with working flashcard for emulation)

Re: Favorite Game Console
Ahaha, I don't have a good answer for this!
I'll just say that out of PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U, I'm happy with just the Wii U. The only two things that I'm super interested in for the PS4 are Kingdom Hearts 3 and The Witness. As for Xbox One...bleh, nothing that interesting. Don't get me wrong, the games look solid, but nothing looks that interesting, and they are still lacking in the exclusives.

I'm excited for the Naughty Dog exclusives that will eventually be coming out.sonicbrawler182 wrote:Ahaha, I don't have a good answer for this!

Re: Favorite Game Console
Oh yeah, the PS4 WILL have lots of great exclusives because Sony have a ton of great IPs. It's just that, they haven't announced much yet that I really want. Just like the Wii U, and pretty much any console, the launch line-up isn't much at all. And the Wii U has gotten a head start, as there are some really good games coming out.
Though, they are at least continuing PS Plus. And my brother has the PS4 pre-ordered, so I will be able to play it at launch.

Re: Favorite Game Console
Ps2 is the best for me because of stuff like Jak, Ratchet and Clank, Final fantasy X, Sly cooper and Kingdom Hearts etc
Ps1 because of Spyro, Crash, Rayman, Final fantasy 7+9 etc
Ps3 because of Uncharted, God Of war, Ratchet and Clank Future, Last Of Us etc
For Handhelds:
3DS because of Mario 3D land, Pokemon X, KH DDD, Kid Icarus, MK 7 etc
GBA because of Pokemon, Pokemon and being able to play the Gameboy Pokemon games
Vita for Gravity Rush, Uncharted, LBP and Psp + Ps1 games galore

Re: Favorite Game Console
Really though? I'm certainly not buying a PS4 to play PS1 games, dunno about you. I'd rather all their energy went into making new games and services, not worrying about the past.technology4617 wrote:The lack of PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility (esp. When I want to play a PS1 game, I just play it on PS1,PS2,PS3, PSP or PS Vita. Nah you're right, that's not enough options.

Re: Favorite Game Console
It would be nice if the PS4 was at least fully backwards compatible with PS3 games, as people could then trade in their PS3s as part of trade-in deals for the PS4, and not have to worry about losing their PS3 data or anything.
This is irrelevant to me personally, but it would be nice, and would help boost sales. Same applies to the Xbox One for Xbox 360 compatibility.

Re: Favorite Game Console
It would also make the PS4 incredibly expensive, as it would have to contain the Cell processor.
So it would either sell badly due to high price, or they'd have to sell it at a huge loss.

Re: Favorite Game Console
I know, just wishful thinking is all (well, not even sure if I'd call it that as personally, I wouldn't need the backwards compatibility).
Re: Favorite Game Console
No backwards compatibility has to be th weakest point of both upcomming systems. Wii U was maybe lacking GameCube compatibility but at least it played Wii games. Although I do with Wii U pad could emulate Classic Controller for Brawl and such games.

Yeah, because it's so great to have 50,000 consoles hooked up to your TV.MrBadGuy wrote:Really though? I'm certainly not buying a PS4 to play PS1 games, dunno about you. I'd rather all their energy went into making new games and services, not worrying about the past.

Re: Favorite Game Console
The point is I don't know anyone irl who still wants to play PS1 games, of course on somewhere like this forum there's going to be a lot of people who do, but it's hardly worth it to support a 19 year old console in my opinion.

Re: Favorite Game Console
We've got ePSXe for PS1 games. I don't think we need the PS4 to support PSone games.
Re: Favorite Game Console
I don't really care. I would not pay for same game twice.sonicbrawler182 wrote:GameCube may come on Virtual Console, if we're really lucky.OldClassicGamer wrote:No backwards compatibility has to be th weakest point of both upcomming systems.
