Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I don't care that it got shut down but that it did is pretty ridiculous. Have they never seen the internet? There's 10 year olds who swear and make (bad) sex jokes on the Minecraft community.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Looks like Shigeru might move on from Mario to focus on another projects. Thats means we will probably never see another Mario 64 styled game and instead just jumping over the flagpole.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Not necessarily, seeing as the N64 formula has been fleshed out significantly, they could easily apply a different twist to it without Miyamoto. I'm rather interested to see what he'll do next now, seeing as he's launched or helped in the launching of various Ninty franchises.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
This. That's why I find sad things coming to this point, because while the Letterbox hasn't got a video mode, Wii U Chat does. Is this going to be the next service to be shut down to also prevent these things?Keane wrote:Have they never seen the internet? Hm, that's an analysis of current trends, however, only time will tell if that outcome is attained, or if these predictions turn out to be false.

I like how they totally ignore the fact Sony has closed down a lot of studios lately, and fail to acknowledge that Nintendo has been doing the opposite. Not only that, but they fail to acknowledge that although Nintendo sold the Wii U at a loss for the last quarter of the year, Nintendo STILL TURNED A PROFIT overall, because of 3DS and game sales.
Nintendo pretty much has a monopoly on the handheld gaming market (PS Vita sales pale in comparison to the 3DS/2DS). As long as that's the case, they can afford to make a few losses on the Wii U.
Not only that, but Nintendo have enough money in their bank reserves to last them until the 2050's. That's a ton of money.
And notice how that article mentions how the PS3 was in a similar situation to the Wii U for it's first year. Wii U will only be out a year at the end of this month. While I feel there are a number of things Nintendo should of done by now, both in terms of system features and business decisions, it still doesn't change the fact that the primary reason Nintendo has had a bad time with the Wii U is just the lack of games. But that is changing already.
Nintendo's situation is in no way unusual. Just watch the PS4 and Xbox One struggle just as much (because I can't name a single launch title that looks particularly interesting for either system. Killzone: Shadow Fall looks nice, but is not doing anything terribly new. It's just more Killzone with a prettier coat of paint. Much like a lot of Wii U titles that were supposed to come out at launch, PS4 launch titles are being delayed, such as Drive Club and Infamous: Second Son).
And a lot of people are simply waiting for certain games to come out (Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros), so they can buy a Wii U then, as Nintendo will likely have bundles out for those games. Then, they intend to buy the back catalog of Wii U exclusives, which should be cheaper by then (Sonic Lost World, Wind Waker HD, ZombiU, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover, etc).
So yeah, don't listen to these "NINTENDO ARE DOOMED" articles. They're just doing it for hits. They're full of false information.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Knack looks amazing on PS4. But Wii U has far superior library to both PS4 and Xbox One.

I highly, highly doubt that. That wouldn't even make any sense.sonicbrawler182 wrote:Not only that, but Nintendo have enough money in their bank reserves to last them until the 2050's.
And Sony and Microsoft would implement a system to aid recreational use of the service, whether it's through a filter or manual validation of chatting, not shut the whole thing down. The way I see it, Nintendo likely does not possess the resources to spend on marketing to up their image if there's a chance people could take issue with Swapnote. Realistically, in Nintendo's position, I can't entirely blame them for doing this. However, since you seem to think they can literally just not do anything and ride out their bank account until 2050, then your inner-fanboy is clearly attempting to justify this through 'damage control' [sic] by saying that they're "just doing their job", when if they had the money, they could spent it on marketing and more intensive software coding and provide thorough system updates to prevent such crap from happening, instead of shutting the service down entirely.sonicbrawler182 wrote:And Microsoft and Sony WOULD care if this sort of stuff is happening. If something like this happened to them, they'd take action even faster than Nintendo, as both Microsoft and Sony have had much more controversy to deal with then Nintendo over the years.
They're either running quite low on money and thus cannot afford a better solution, or they have the money, but made a stupid decision. Either way will have me logically siding with Haruka's mode of reasoning and disagreeing with you, and gladly, in light of rather infuriatingly closed-minded posts of yours like this:

The Wii U has been out for a whole year, the PS4 and Xbox One haven't even been released yet. Obviously this is true right at the moment, as there are clearly more Wii U games known to exist than PS4 and XOne games, but that's clearly not what you meant, and you've jumped to a very bizarre conclusion given the just aforementioned circumstances.OldClassicGamer wrote:But Wii U has far superior library to both PS4 and Xbox One.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Actually some still care to argue that the launch line-up of XB1 and PS4 already looks better than Wii U's which I highly disagree with.
Sony and Microsoft will both take us by surprise I'm sure... so far though I enjoy my Wii U, and I think it's got some great stuff coming to it, Bayonetta 2 is likely to be awesome.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I actually found the Wii U's launch very underwhelming. Probably the most notable games to be released were Mario Bros U, Epic Mickey 2 and Tekken, which are fine by all means, but not exactly something to jizz over, aside from maybe Epic Mickey 2, but that game turned out to be meh. Meanwhile, the other two consoles are launching with huge blockbuster next-generation titles like Assassin's Creed IV, Tom Clancy, Watchdogs and so on; the only way I think Nintendo could have rivalled that is if they were announcing a brand new 3D Mario platformer or F-Zero revival, which they didn't come remotely close to doing, so I unfortunately can't agree.
However, what made the Wii U worthwhile for me were many of the great games that came out later. Bayonetta 2 is something I'm also highly anticipating.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Yeah. The 3DS launch was also a bit rough around the edges. Well it seems what Nintendo thinks to be it's 'system seller' (Mario 3D world) will be releasing soon, hopefully that will reach our expectations, though I doubt it'll be as awesome as Galaxy was. Though I sadly don't think we'll be seeing an F-Zero revival as much as I want to... Mario Kart sells, regardless, I think Mario Kart 8 looks fun (hopefully will have good online), but I'd prefer to see an F-Zero. Or maybe Star Fox for that matter. Isn't the wii U also having AC IV and Watch Dogs though? Hell, I'm pretty sure it had all 3 of those.
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
I honestly think that people are just waiting for real AAA titles like Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, etc before purchasing the system. Knowing that the 3D World will still get released this year, it might help sellings this season. Knowing also the issues that the Wii U had in this first year, I think they could have released the console now instead of last year. The lack of titles makes me believe it was a rushed release.
Thanks for understanding my point, Ad.Adsolution wrote:I highly, highly doubt that. That wouldn't even make any sense.sonicbrawler182 wrote:Not only that, but Nintendo have enough money in their bank reserves to last them until the 2050's.

Indeed, anything, whether it's F-Zero, Star Fox, or some other astounding franchise of theirs they've mindlessly left untouched would be a huge boost. I really think that Nintendo needs to step up their game a bit when it comes to making these games.
Nintendo were pioneers at making the most and more of what they had in the early 2000s and before, and unfortunately, they seem to have completely forgotten how to evolve artistically with technology like they have in the past; a lot of what was on the Wii could have existed on the GameCube, and I can't think of a single thing on the Wii U that couldn't have existed on the Wii just fine, and some even on the GameCube with no notable loss in quality (bar the touch screen controller). If they think that a touch screen is enough to reinvent themselves, then they've got it all wrong; the DS was a landmark not only because of its touch screen, but because they really took advantage of its technical capability.
Nintendo kept surprising us and moving forward until the GameCube era and the beginning of the Wii era, and then just sort of stopped innovating. Mario 3D World seems like a step backward, New Super Mario Bros is a rehash of a 2D sidescroller with nothing new (the DS version was cool, because Nintendo were still innovating and rarely nostalgia-milked at that point), Mario Kart 8 is pretty much Mario Kart Wii and 7 with twisty gravity, and so on.
- Using F-Zero as a first example, why not place your funds into developing the best racing game ever conceived? It's never been a genre with a consistent stream of good games (at all, in fact, GX is almost unanimously considered to be the best racing game around), and with a series as fucking cool and fun as F-Zero, I can only imagine how much it could benefit from two generations of technological advancement, both graphically and mechanically. I even envision it taking inspiration from GP Legend in creating a lengthy, non-linear campaign with crossing paths through all the various racers, in addition to the absolutely mind-blowing online experience that we could have. Think of the courses themselves too: F-Zero is one of Nintendo's few franchises that relies on presentation just as much as the gameplay itself, and with the Wii U, we could have some absolutely out-of-this world environments and track design.
- Using Star Fox as a second example, I think Mass Effect. No, not to clone it, but take inspiration from how it managed to create such an engrossing universe with a phenomenal, space-operatic story and a great cast of characters. Star Fox is just asking for it; combine the unique mechanics of Adventures and Assault with... why need I even go on? These games already have great gameplay, now take advantage of technology and make an epic blockbuster out of it, just like you used to do over a decade ago. Star Fox is like a grand saga just waiting to unfold, only having so far reached what I believe to be 25% of its potential. Do what Star Fox 64 couldn't, don't take pride in your former limitations and adopt it as your new consistent 'charm'.
I dreamt big for Nintendo before the GameCube's release, and all my wishes came true. I dreamt big for Nintendo in the Wii and Wii U era, and to my dismay, they lost it, especially towards the latter half of the Wii's lifespan. Nintendo has kind of screwed themselves with their apparent current philosophy, and unless (in my view) they do something like the above two examples, they won't be able to sustain themselves for all that much longer.

AC IV is graphically downgraded on the Wii U, PS3 and 360; it's 100% a next-generation title, and the same can be said for Watch Dogs.Rayfist wrote:Isn't the wii U also having AC IV and Watch Dogs though? Hell, I'm pretty sure it had all 3 of those.

Re: Official Nintendo Topic
This is an old article, but Nintendo has enough profit since then for the amount to be even bigger in the present day (especially since they cut production on Wii systems, which reduces costs).I highly, highly doubt that. That wouldn't even make any sense.
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/0 ... n_the_bank
But with the nature of the SwapNote service, this is impossible, for any company. It's not a money issue at all. Also, as I already stated, SwapNote was not shut down, merely suspended. And, it didn't have an end user agreement. And Sony and Microsoft would implement a system to aid recreational use of the service, whether it's through a filter or manual validation of chatting, not shut the whole thing down.
And can you quit making accusations on my character? It doesn't reflect well on your own.
There is no way I am a Nintendo fanboy. I'm a fan of some of their games, but not all of them. I actually grew up with the Playstation, and I still purchase Sony systems, and enjoy them just as much as Nintendo systems.
The Wii U's launch was underwhelming, but many consoles have underwhelming launches. The PS4 and Xbox One are already set to, with delays on major launch titles (just like with the Wii U). And the current library of Wii U games already beats the launch line up of the PS4 and Xbox One.I actually found the Wii U's launch very underwhelming. Probably the most notable games to be released were Mario Bros U, Epic Mickey 2 and Tekken, which are fine by all means, but not exactly something to jizz over, aside from maybe Epic Mickey 2, but that game turned out to be meh. Epic Mickey 2 and Tekken don't count, as they are not exclusive. Tekken has exclusive content on Wii U, but it wasn't going to make anyone buy a Wii U. And Epic Mickey 2 is even on the original Wii.Probably the most notable games to be released were Mario Bros U, Epic Mickey 2 and Tekken, which are fine by all means
So games we can already get on our Wii U's, PS3's, and Xbox 360's are supposed to get us excited for the PS4 and Xbox One (keeping in mind we can get them at a cheaper price on those systems, and that the PS4 and Xbox One versions are literally just ports with better graphics, and nothing else. They don't even support 60FPS)?Meanwhile, the other two consoles are launching with huge blockbuster next-generation titles like Assassin's Creed IV, Tom Clancy, Watchdogs and so on
Re: Official Nintendo Topic
Actually Assassins Creed IV has been confirmed to run at 60 FPS on both Xbox One and Ps4, same with Battlefield 4, Call Of Duty etc. I'm more excited about the exclusives launching with the consoles though.sonicbrawler182 wrote:So games we can already get on our Wii U's, PS3's, and Xbox 360's are supposed to get us excited for the PS4 and Xbox One (keeping in mind we can get them at a cheaper price on those systems, and that the PS4 and Xbox One versions are literally just ports with better graphics, and nothing else.
