Hm, I'm not too sure, I know it works like that in England, but I know the educational systems vary in the other countries.

I see no point in keeping you in until 18/19 like they do here. They openly admit that the last year is, outside of exams, nearly pointless. Really encourages you to show up! But meh, I hope I can do it like my brother and have my day end at 1:30. Though I'd need a car and I don't believe my mother would let me user hers.

In Ireland, it depends on the age you start in combination with whether or not you opt into the optional "Transition Year". I did opt into this, and as a result, didn't finish school until I was 18 (though had my last Parent/Teacher Meeting when I was 17).Adsolution wrote:Depending on the school wouldn't make any sense. Hm, I started school when I was 4, so I'm in the younger half, School here starts at age 4/5, and goes on 'til 15/16, as mentioned earlier.

I was in Nursery when I was 3, that's pretty much Kindergarten, which sounds German.

The place I lived sort of doubled as a Kindergarten when I was four, and then after I moved out of there I went to a different Kindergarten when I was five, then moved on to first grade at age six, the normal first-grade entry year.

My school cycle:
Primary School (I went to two different ones): 8 years
Secondary School: 6 years (including Transition Year)
College: Currently enrolled

A completely optional year that mainly exists for people who may be a bit young coming out of school without it. You don't do normal curriculam work (over in Ireland, 1st-3rd Year is the Junior Certificate Course, and 5th-6th Year is the Leaving Certificate Course, or a variant of it, depending on who you are. Transition Year is the 4th Year). You basically get to do all kinds of things, and generally expand your interests and skills, and you get to go on many trips (for example, I went to Strasbourg and went to the European Parliament for an "EU Student Parliament" Day. I also climbed Croagh Patrick, the highest mountain in Ireland, as part of the end of year trip). You also go and do work experience for two weeks.What's this "transitional year" Brawler?

Hm, so it's like a gap year for younger 'uns, in a way, except with premade activities, interesting.

Some might say TY is insane because you are basically extending your secondary school life by a year, but I learned a lot of things and found some new interests as a result of it. Photography and Drama are the two things I most noticeably took with me.

Hm, I think it's good to dabble, one thing I'm glad they did with us, is that they had a bunch of many other fields for us to go through in addition to the core Maths, Science and English. Music, Art, Drama, History and Geography are all subjects I've been able to dabble in before we had to specialise in Year 9 (age 13 for me).
