Re: Rayman Legends
I think Rayman Legends has the best combat mechanics in the series, out of what we've actually gotten to do - the problem is, we rarely ever have to really utilise or think about them in a combat context. Rayman's combat moves in Legends have great use for your directional influence when moving about, but rarely have any use within actual combat.
I quite liked Rayman 3's combat system too, but again, it wasn't really built upon, and was very basic. They had a great idea, but didn't do enough with it, and it felt repetitive as a result. I think this system has so much potential though.
Should we get a new 3D Rayman that doesn't take inspiration from Super Mario 3D World, I'd like they use what they had in Rayman 3 as a base for the game's mechanics. Specifically, the paint can power-ups deserve to return (I see them as the Wisps of Rayman). They should use the swimming mechanics from Rayman 2 though. I really didn't like the underwater section in Rayman 3.
And I feel Ancel really can move on from Rayman if he really wants to, and just be a wise old sage that the development team reaches out to for the odd bit of advice. He doesn't need to be the director anymore. I'm not saying I WANT him to go, I'm just saying I'd be OK with him leaving the franchise in someone else's hands, specifically someone like that Emile guy who seemed to be his right hand man of sorts. This is especially so if the next game is another Origins style game. Ancel REALLY wouldn't be needed for that.

Re: Rayman Legends
I see what you mean, the combat flows well with the gameplay of Legends, and there's much more of it as opposed to the usual dodge and shoot mechanic, I think a hybrid of the two could work well though, with the lock on system for ranged old school, mixed with the more up-front style, perhaps inspired by the mechanics of the RRR beta? It did have a rather RL-esque combat system looking at the trailer.
I don't want a Rayman Legends 3D, much as how the 3D World series seems to be a 3Dified 2D Mario, Legends' style is neat, but I don't think I'd like to be in as fast paced and rhythmic platfomer in a full 3D environment.

Re: Rayman Legends
Completely agreed with the above two posts, especially on how the combat in Legends was almost entirely irrelevant to combat itself. The enemies in Legends overall were quite lame as well, and were moreso just bouncy platforms than any actual threat.

Re: Rayman Legends
The only times in Legends where the combat really showed it's potential are when you are on that one beat-em up elevator section in 20,000 Lums Under the Sea, and two of the Dark Rayman Invasion levels where defeating enemies was mandatory to progressing (these two were two of my favourite Invasion levels). I found myself wishing there were more sections like that. You can also see the possibilities for attack combos if you are playing Kung Foot.
The combat really reminded me of the combat from the GBA version of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night. A really fun Metroidvania game that had combat a lot like what was in Legends - very fast and precise, but doesn't empower you too much. If anyone's curious as to what kind of things could be done with the combat in Origins and Legends, I'd suggest trying this game out. Even better if you use a GBA emulator with a controller hooked up.

Re: Rayman Legends
Ah yes, the Metroidvania concept! I feel like raving again about how much I'd love for that formula to be tried out in the series.

Re: Rayman Legends
If anyone is interested in getting Rayman Legends on Steam, it's currently 50% off (making it €14.99) as part of the Steam VGX Awards Sale. And in case you are wondering what Legends has been nominated for, it's nominated for "Best Nintendo Game" and "Best PlayStation Game".

Re: Rayman Legends
Award wise, it will just be the usual affair. Expect GTA V to get half of the awards. :V
And with that being said, The Last of Us and Super Mario 3D World are probably going to win the PlayStation and Nintendo awards respectively. I don't think Legends has a chance. VGX is really mainstream. Only the AAA budget games that sell millions win anything most years.
There are going to be quite a few world premieres though, which is why I'm watching it. Such as Nintendo's big reveal, which is likely to be Zelda U. There will also be various interviews, such as interviews with the soundtrack artists of GTA V, and with Matt Stone and Trey Parker regarding South Park: The Stick of Truth.
If you're interested in watching the show, you can watch it in various places - such as from your PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS device, Android device, and Steam. I'm watching it on Steam myself. Here's the link for anyone who wants to watch it. It's starting in just under 25 minutes, as of the time of posting:

Re: Rayman Legends
As part of the "12 Deals of Christmas" sale on PS Store, Rayman Legends is also €14.99 on the PS Store right now.
Re: Rayman Legends
I would expect promotion to lasts at least 2 days, but I guess it does make sense since VGX is over.Master wrote:Probably because the event's ended, OCG.

Re: Rayman Legends
Rayman Legends seems to have gotten a permanent price drop on the Wii U eShop. It's now €29.99.
Re: Rayman Legends
I think it was announced before.

And I haven't done anything on it for a long time now, still stuck on Level 10.
