Re: What games are you currently playing?
Origin is my personal favorite brand for gaming, though I'm not so dumb as to say they're the "only" gaming laptop manufacturer.

Hm, when I'm looking about, I'll check 'em out then, though I haven't heard much of them here before.

I've been using MSI for my gaming laptops.

Yeah, I've been peeking at their offerings as well. I like how many gaming laptops have backlit keyboards, they're nice when you're posting at night like I am now.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I thought typing usually involves not looking at the keyboard?
Re: What games are you currently playing?
I remember trying gaming on some old Asus laptop. Rayman Raving Rabbids didn't even work.
EDIT: how many times was I ninja-ed?

It's useful for proofchecking and correcting, when one is like me, they can make a few typos.Hoodcom wrote:I thought typing usually involves not looking at the keyboard?

Sony used to have the S line, which I really liked, but they decided to get rid of it because they wanted to be more generic.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Last I checked their website, they had a rather minuscule range of laptops, and what they offered was rather confusing in terms of intended users.

Meh, their Pro line is pretty good. Unfortunately, I was dumb enough to get the Duo 13, as I thought my laptop required digitizer stylus input.

Digitizer Stylus Input? I'm going to look that up, I've never heard of this before.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
The laptop I have my eyes on costs about €750 if I recall correctly, but because my brother works in the shop I'm buying it in, he can get discounts of up to 20% on products, so I'm sure I'd get the laptop for at least €680 in the end (I'll have more than enough to pay for it either way, though).
If you're wondering how I'm capable of paying for that without being employed and without coming from a rich family, it's because of the student grant scheme I applied for before enrolling into college. The grant is intended to pay for my buses and lunches for college, and is more than €3,000 worth of nine monthly installments. I was supposed to get my first installment back in September, and get all installments thereafter every month. However, there was a huge hold up with getting the grants for some students through, and I was one of those students. So I've been paying for my last three months in college myself, with help from my parents. However, my grant is finally coming through later this month, and along with this month's installment, I will be getting all three of my backdated installments. Combine this with the fact my Christmas break comes around the time the money arrives in my bank account (leaving me with more than two weeks where I don't have to pay for buses or anything college related, and my next installment coming through when the holidays finish), I will have about €1,000 to spend freely. So I'm buying the laptop the second I see the money arrive in my bank account, and will likely buy Christmas presents for friends and family, and maybe a reasonably priced game or two for myself.
Hmm, that might of been too much information, but yeah!
And while I know an actual desktop PC would be easier, and as Hoodcom said, building one is a learning experience, I'm going with a laptop because it fits in with my lifestyle much better, as I always bring my current laptop around, and use it during my 3 hour breaks in college. This will not only be handy for being able to play top end games during these times, but also for working on any 3D modelling assignments or UDK related work I might have to do for college, as well as any personal projects of my own.
While the laptop I'm getting only has a 720p screen, this looks just fine to me, and when I am at home and want to play PC games, I will just hook up my laptop to the awesome new TV we got, which will allow me to play my PC games in 1080p.

It's basically another input for active styluses, besides the standard capacitative touch input.Master wrote:Digitizer Stylus Input? I'm going to look that up, I've never heard of this before.

@Brawler, I see, essentially using bursaries then?
@Tech, ah, I see what you mean, like the touch pen included with Surface Pro, for instance.

What about the graphics card, processor, hard drive, RAM, battery life, weight, and size?sonicbrawler182 wrote:The laptop I have my eyes on costs about €750 if I recall correctly, but because my brother works in the shop I'm buying it in, he can get discounts of up to 20% on products, so I'm sure I'd get the laptop for at least €680 in the end (I'll have more than enough to pay for it either way, though)

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I don't have the specs on hand right now, but I did look them over already, and they are more than fine for what I need. My brother's friend has a laptop with similar specs, and that laptop found it a cake walk to run Sonic Generations (a game I really need to be able to run). And I seen what it could do in general. So yeah, I'm more than happy.

Re: What games are you currently playing?
I would recommend NVIDIA Optimus setup in any gaming laptop. Where you both can have great graphics power and great battery life when you need it.

Specs are definitely the most important thing on a gaming laptop, so you ought to know them by heart before purchasing one.sonicbrawler182 wrote:I don't have the specs on hand right now, but I did look them over already, and they are more than fine for what I need. Re: What games are you currently playing?
I know, I'll review them when the time comes. But I did my research already, with my brother providing second opinions. I was actually being more pessimistic than him, so that goes to show that it really should be worth it!
I simply forgot the majority of the details because I've been busy with other things.
