Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
What's most exciting about this is how much deeper Taxman is getting into Sega.
When he made his version of Sonic CD, he wanted to include the scrapped "Desert Dazzle Zone", but he was not allowed to add any major new gameplay features beyond Tails and the Spin Dash.
When he made his version of Sonic 1 alongside Stealth, he was allowed to add the Spin Dash, Tails, Knuckles, "Sonic & Tails", Time Attack Mode, exclusive areas and routes for Tails & Knuckles, a seventh Special Stage and Chaos Emerald, Super Sonic, elemental shields, and the option to remove the "Spike Bug".
Now, with Sonic 2, he has included everything he did with Sonic 1, Hidden Palace Zone, and a revamped multiplayer mode, plus whatever else we have yet to discover.
Some "sort of in the know" moderators on Sonic Retro have been encouraging people to "buy these ports even if you don't plan to play them" since they were announced. This hints that another project by Taxman getting greenlit is dependent on the success of these two ports. The obvious one is a port of Sonic 3 & Knuckles with new features akin to what we've been getting so far, but what if it's something beyond even that? What if we got a completely new Sonic game made by these guys - a "Sonic 5", of sorts?

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
It's a pity though that SEGA haven't put their Sonic 1 work (and it seems, Sonic 2 work) on the console markets, I'd love to be able to kick back and play them again on a TV with the enhancements.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
Like I said, they will probably make it in time. Patching is more expensive on consoles, but is free on mobile devices and they don't have to go through any authorisation to release a patch, IIRC. So the smartest move is to use the mobile versions of the games to iron out all of the kinks and bugs. When that's done, they will probably release console/PC versions.
For those who can't wait for that, there is always Bluestacks.

Hm, fair enough I guess, I don't really understand the work and financing behind getting stuff onto the stores and the like.
Ahh, this whole thing does remind me a little of S2HD, what potential that had.

A pretty cool screenshot from the Smash Bros website:

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
I hope it will be challenging like in MM1.

^Go away, Yellow Devil is a prick. :c
In all seriousness, I don't think this is actually a boss at this point. Looks like it could be a stage hazard.
Also, regarding the Sonic 2 remake, they have revamped the Special Stages, much like the last two games, and they have added a Boss Rush Mode. Apparently there is also a secret ending, one that wasn't in the original game.
And the method for unlocking Hidden Palace Zone is incredibly fucking clever, and only the hardcore Sonic fans would think to do it.

Hm, I'm tempted to look up footage of it now to see what it is you're talking about. As for Hidden Palace, I get the feeling I should know this, seeing how much I used to glide about Sonic Wikis, yet I can't remember.

I am the only one who got S2R free as an update?
Wow look at that bonus stage:

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
It's never been on Android before, so there was no update to be had, iOS users who have the emulated version will get updated though.
Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
I'm not sure if what I have read is correct, but if it is, the method of unlocking Hidden Palace zone, is in my opinion, pretty damn funny.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
Just saw a vid explaining how to get to, and I concur, that was brilliant, pity though that they went with the Mystic Cave Two Player theme instead of the unused track.
[The inescapable Spike Pit, now a pit to a hidden world, hilariously fitting]

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
Just played through Hidden Palace and I have to say, it is amazing. The boss at the end is just brilliant. It's a pity it is only one zone long.

I suddenly feel a huge temptation to get the taxman port of Sonic 2 just to find out how exactly I will be able to get there, if I ever figure out.sonicbrawler182 wrote:And the method for unlocking Hidden Palace Zone is incredibly fucking clever, and only the hardcore Sonic fans would think to do it.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
Also, another great addition is that all zones are available in 2P Versus mode, as well as Knuckles being playable in Versus mode too. You don't have to unlock Knuckles this time either.
It also has online play, but I hear it doesn't really work yet. I'm sure this will be fixed though.

What are you talking about? It just played some matches with some random guys and it works perfectly and muuuuuuuuch better than the PS3 port!sonicbrawler182 wrote:It also has online play, but I hear it doesn't really work yet. I'm sure this will be fixed though.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
A lot of people on Sonic Retro were having trouble with it, specifically trying to invite and play with friends. Some even reported "stuck on black screen" issues in relation to it.emshomar wrote:What are you talking about? Keep in mind these guys were referring to the Android version. So maybe the iOS version works better right now.

Eh, credit where it's due, having a more uniform range of devices does work to Apple's advantage in this case.

There is no boss in hill top zone.
