My headcanon states it's called the Swamps of Forgetfulness because certain parts contain a strange fog which gives people temporary amnesia, hence the 'Forgetfulness'THEdragon wrote:New headcanon!
The Swamps of Forgetfulness are also known as the Forgotten Swamps, as seen in the Atari Jaguar version of Rayman 1. This was actually the original name, but then people began to forget why they called it 'forgotten' if people remembered the swamps were there. Most people took to calling the swamps 'the Swamps of Forgetfulness' instead for this reason.

That's a good headcanon too
Speaking of the Swamps of Forgetfulness, a headcanon I've had for a while is that the reason Tarayzan had the same haircut as Rayman was because he originally had messy hair, but upon meeting Rayman decided he liked Rayman's haircut so much that he ended up copying it.

It just seemed obvious to me that the name came from the fact that many a traveler drowned and was forgotten in the swamps, but then again anything's possible.Electoon wrote:My headcanon states it's called the Swamps of Forgetfulness because certain parts contain a strange fog which gives people temporary amnesia, hence the 'Forgetfulness'

Maybe that's why it seems no-one outside the Valley knows about it. Any travellers who went their ended up dead, some drowning in the swamps.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
hey folks i have 4 theories:
1-Mr dark is a wraith
2-The creation of razorbeard
3-Dark rayman is actually a special type of weapon
4-The real gods and people
right now im just gonna put theory number 1 since its the smallest and the others, even more the fourth one,i still need to check somethings
This theory is basically says that mr dark is a wraith,a creature of darkness who have no organical or somewhat physical form, but it eats souls to survive
i think he is a wraith more cuz of his design and the fact that he stole the heart of the world(I guess thats the name) on R1,which means he wanted to make chaos so them all creatures would die and he could eat their souls
even more, most wraiths i know are represented as clothed shadows wirh nearly no physical or organical form

Re: Rayman Headcanons
This headcanon is for how Dark Rayman was created.
First, we all know that Rayman is made of electoons. And going back to a previous headcanon of mine, Mister Dark is an embodiment of darkness, and his signature spell is making dark opposites of people. Rayman was made by Betilla from sun rays.and electoons for the purpose.of.combatting the darkness.
When Mister Dark stole the Great Protoon, he made.dark opposites of electoons (antitoons) and if an antitoon touches an election, they both die. (Which is why Rayman gets hurt when touching an antitoon.)
As Rayman progressed.further in his journey, he was reaching the peaks of.his.worries and fears, despairs and doubts, angst and perils.Mister Dark chose the perfect time to.make a dark silhouette of Rayman out of antitoons when.he.was AG his emotional peak. Then Mister Dark shot the antitoon silhouette through Rayman, which came out the other side born as Dark Rayman!

Re: Rayman Headcanons
That's a good headcanon, I also think of Dark Rayman as a manifestation of all the negativity within Rayman.
That reminds me, I should post my Mr Dark headcanon. I'm not sure how often people think about what Mr Dark looks like under his cloak and hat, but often in fanart he is portrayed as a member of Rayman's species, and in theories and such he is often thought of has a 'ghostly' figure with no physical form, perhaps being a dark fog or such. I thought to myself, what is Mr Dark hides himself not to be 'mysterious', but because under his clothing he's actually a grotesque abomination? The story goes as follows:
Mr Dark (Bear in mind he wasn't known as that at this point, but we’ll call him that for simplicity’s sake) was originally a limbed fairy, like Ly. But male, of course. He wasn't particularly social, but not an outcast, either. He was fairly happy keeping to himself. He was one of the very few people in the Glade’s mainland who knew of the limbless folk in the Valley, in fact, he was incredibly fascinated, perhaps even obsessed with them.
Mr Dark didn't bother a whole lot with conventional magic, but spent most of his time working with entirely new magic spells and potions of his own creation. Most of them had undesirable, unsettling results. Between his obsession with the limbless folk and his study of original magic, he came up with a life goal: To become a limbless through the use of magic and start a new life in the Valley.
So Mr Dark spent what may very well have been decades experimenting with magic, trying to find a transformation spell to turn himself limbless. Finally, one day, one of his spells seemed to be a success! His magic turned himself into a limbless! However, once the new limbless form was achieved, the magic failed to stop, but instead spiralled out of control, transforming Mr Dark into a grotesque, otherworldly beast.
Incredibly distraught by the irreversible failure of decades of hard work, Mr Dark grew furious, and his admiration of the limbless folk turned to hate. He could no longer look back at his studies of them or even think about them without getting incredibly mad. He began wearing a large cloak and hat to conceal his grotesque form, and headed to the Valley to take his fury out on those he blamed for his own mistake, while also searching desperately for a potential cure for his disfigurement.
The name “Mr Dark” is not his true name, but a name made up by the Valley people, for none know his true name.
Mr Dark stole the Great Protoon, not only to screw things up for the Valley folk he now despised, but also to help him with his magic, as he still hoped to reverse his disfigurement. He kidnapped Betilla not only to taunt Rayman, but to have a specimen of the species he had originally intended to become (A limbless fairy). Stealing the Book of Knowledge was an attempt to not only screw things up for the Valley folk again, but to search for the answer to his 'problem' for he knew of the vast amount of wisdom and information the book contained. Stealing the Magician's mail was just the indication that Mr Dark was reaching the bottom of his desperation for a cure, for he had hoped that by some miracle the magic recipe could turn him back.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Sometimes I theorize that Mister Dark lost his physical form entirely due to a horribly accident resulting from the failure of a magic spell he was experimenting with.
Hm. Now that I think about it, maybe he turned into a Toon (limbless) as a magic emergency defense mechanism his body automatically had, when the accident went volatile.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
This never occurred to me. The wording "Swamps of Forgetfulness" implies to me that it actively makes people lose their memories – if it was meant to refer to people simply being lost and forgotten, it would have been called "The Swamps of the Forgotten" or something to that effect. I've never put a huge amount of thought into it, but I've always assumed the swamp would cause people to forget why they were there and/or which areas they'd passed through, sort of like a confusing mental labyrinth. It adds some character to the idea of the place, even if we don't get to see it reflected in gameplay.Hunchman801 wrote:It just seemed obvious to me that the name came from the fact that many a traveler drowned and was forgotten in the swamps, but then again anything's possible.Electoon wrote:My headcanon states it's called the Swamps of Forgetfulness because certain parts contain a strange fog which gives people temporary amnesia, hence the 'Forgetfulness'
Re: Rayman Headcanons
I have a silly headcanon.
The reason why the Teensy Photographer didn't make a physical appearance in Rayman Origins is:He loves garlic. He ate so much garlic, that Rayman and his friends refused to let him take photos of them, because of the unpleasant smell that was coming from his mouth.Taking photos was his purpose of life,so he moved some steps backwards and the smell wasn't felt anymore.Unfortunately,he is now off-screen.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Heheh, that's a pretty funny one. That'd explain why he's not seen, and why the photo at the end is taken without him in sight.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
New headcanon, ans this one refers to Mister Dark, Ales Mansay, and the Magician. (I'm not too fond of the beginning concept, but maybe it'll grow on me.)
Some of us (including myself) hate to think that Mister Dark, Ales Mansay, and the Magician could all be the same person. But what if they were?
What if the Magician and Mister Dark had originally been the same entity? We know that Ales had been mocked for being weak at magic. So, he was always a good Guy at heart, just the resentment he felt towards himself.and those that mocked him built up evil in his heart.
Until one fateful day, where Ales was finally able to purge all the evil from his heart. And thus, Mister Dark was created! And from then on, Ales took a vow to stay on the side of benevolence while becoming a master at magic, thus becoming The Magician!
But as a result of this fission between good and evil, the Magician and Mister.Dark cannot touch each other, or else they will fuse back together into the same entity. (Explains why he Magician can't directly help Rayman in the first game.) In Origins, they touch and fuse back together due to some unfortunate circumstances, and they become Ales Mansay once more. Though the sudden fusion is so volatile, it morphs their body into that of a hideous, aging Teensie.
In this sudden chaotic fusion, Mister Dark's evil is in control, but still with the Magician's eccentric dramatic attitude, leading to his evil betrayal. But in Legends when the nightmares multiply (thanks to THEdragon for this Legends idea) Ales' body is split into five pieces, making him a seperate entity from Mister Dark and the Magician and making the two seperate again.
